We are Bill and DeAnna Edmister of Living the Silver Life and are full time RVers. We’d love for you to join our Nomad Family so you can come along for the ride and ‘Get Up & Get Out.
In this weeks video, we are back in New York. We are discussing why we feel as though a home base is the right way for us to go at this phase of our travels, and why we selected New York.
Join us next week, we will be making some major but important investments for the property in a tractor and dump trailer. We will also get started with some projects around the property.

You're right about that. Not sure we really appreciated that until we sold ours, went on the road, and then felt like something was missing. Glad we bought it. It is really pretty up here.

We try. It’s been a lot of work, but it also feels good to get so much accomplished and most of it by our own hands.

We have talked about this subject many times. Having a home base has always been important to us. We travel when we feel like it, not because we have to move. It been fun to watch you guys develop your property!

It really has been and definitely a lot of labor, but it will be worth it in the end. We love it here.

It’s harder to travel full time than a person thinks !
It brings a person a level of security when travelling to know you have a home base.

Hey Bill and DeAnna, you were both lucky that during Covid, you were able to stay put. But it is really understandable that this made you re-evaluate life and sorting your awesome home base. You truly have the best of both worlds!! I love being reminded of just how much you achieved last year. I also love how you came along with the name Scout Ridge!
We have a lot planned for this summer so we will hopefully achieve as much as we did last year, this year too. We love it.

We did do a lot last year so we are really looking forward to another summer of a lot of work getting done. A cabin will be a nice addition.

Very cool share of your reevaluations. I agree that you need a home base. It is where you can truly reenergize. I think the pandemic really made everyone thing things over. It is a blessing to be able to have a home base and be mobile. LIKE 48. 👍👍👍

Loved the doggie photos in the snow 😃 and it was good to hear how it was during covid that you decided you needed a home base. I am glad that I was in on this from the start of you buying this property in New York and i clearly remember the videos from when you started clearing the site a year ago, so good why you named it what you did after Scout as well. Its such a great site, maybe you can make your own reservour/ lake for fishing ? 😃Then it would be perfect ! But it must be difficult DeeAnna with your family and daughters in Texas and Bill your family in the New York area. Thanks for the update, its exciting to know what you'll be doing next :) ~ Anna 👍

So fun to see it now that we have “seen it” haha. A home base makes 100% sense. Seeing it as you bought it and where you are today - you guys have done so much work! Love Scout Ridge 😊. Troy loved the well house and talking about it with Bill. Talked about it multiple times on our trip home! Didn’t even see the power pole in person so had to look for it in the video haha. We loved have you guys here. Glad the electric pole isn't as obtrusive as we thought it would be. We worried about that, but like ya'll most people don't even notice it. 😂. Nobody has worked since Friday; except us, so right now we still just have the framework. They won't be back until tomorrow. Bill finished the water line from the well house, and we put a garden in yesterday. Now, I just need to fill it with plants.

Nice recap of a lot of work! Liked the drone footage. I think having a home base makes a lot of sense. That’s our plan with lots of adventures to great areas surrounding us. Got a lot of footage last week and now have to edit and upload it. Some really cool stuff so surprises coming soon.😀👎

I love that you have a home base but are still traveling. I said a long time ago that I never wanted to be full time rv. Told Jessie that when he said how much fun it would be. Told him I always wanted to have a home base and then bam that nasty C hit and I told mmmmm had to say “I told you so”. It was weird. We literally had the conversation a few months prior. You just never know when something will happen where you need a place to stay put. I must say, you guys have a great spot. I really want property and a tiny house. I don’t want to be in town. One day. Still looking for that perfect area 😁
You were smart. Don't think we would have kept the house we raised the girls in in Texas. That little town we moved to with only one stop light just exploded into a yuppy community with all the things everyone living in a large city need. It is the place to live now. However, even though it's an amazing town, it just got way too big for us. So we are happy that we had sold so that we were open to a whole new option.

Indeed, having a home base is a great option! Just kept on plugging away and look at it now...beautiful! Looking for a little something myself here in NS...more of an off-grid destination, just to get away from it all. Even though I live in a more suburban area of Halifax, with all the new construction of apartments in every nock and cranny it seems, just getting too busy for my liking. Bill wants an off-grid option somewhere. Maybe that's what we will end up in Texas. It's one of the reasons we sold everything and went full time. Out little town of Midlothian, TX just exploded and became really a metroplex yuppy area. 😂😂. Perfect for so many, but just way too big for Bill and I so we know exactly what you mean.

Deanna you look so beautiful and happy. Your travel plans are perfect. It is amazing what you all have done. You are gone all of June and July right? I'm sorry about losing the doggy. Your voice is a good storytelling voice. I love the trail. So perfect. Do you all have cameras to watch the property and will you add a gate.

We have a game cam to catch animals, and a security camera will be installed once we have a house. There aren't any plans this year for a gate, but probably in the next year or so.
We had the same thought during COVID even though we had not yet begun full-time travel. We bought a home base in upstate NY as well, but we bought acreage with a house. Now we need a place on the property to park the AS.

I think it's great to have a home base. Matter of fact, I think it would be even better if you also found a little piece of land in the South near your family there. You would always have a place to land near family.
We are really happy about the location; even though my family in Texas is not as happy. 😂
Enjoyed seeing how it all; started. We want to do the same it is all about timing we are not sure if we want to do this a couple years before retirement or wait until after retirement when Ron has more time but I want to get on the road as soon as he retires? We will see but it is so much fun watching and learning from you!

Yep, I think a homebase is smart. We've decided to just keep the house and travel months at a time, come home for holidays, family and friends.

That’s what we are going to do more now. Hopefully next summer, we will do more traveling around here, and then we will travel throughout the rest of the year.
Oh slash, I forgot to tell you that. 😂😂. When we bought the property it was covered in the remnants from the logging that was done to our property- limbs, sticks, holes, trenches, piles of sticks, etc- basically slash. I think it may be a term used in the north more than the south cause I’d never really heard it called that. Bill’s from NY originally so people here know what he means. People from the southern regions usually ask what that means. 😂😂
