    G'day Steve,
Thsnk you for your kind words & reply.
You are 50 years old I will be 54 this year & majority of my friends & younger generation within my family are just not interested in what they call these dinosaur relics of a car & EV is the future.
Boy what will they know I am old old skool.
It is great you are documenting
Mr Jones, 30 years from now it will be still available on RUclips to watch.
Stay warm buddy we are going through abit of a heatwave being summer here at the moment.
    Cheers
    Louis Kats 👍

    G’day Steve,
What a great video & I love your sense of humour & your positive can do attitude.
I am happy with the job you did on the scoop & as you said OG isn’t perfect.
I know what you mean by improvise.
Here is a story I will share with you regarding my VG Hardtop.
I bought from the states a “ Mr Norm “ number plate frames for the front & rear plates.
Now Australian number plates are way different in size to USA plates, totally different.
Now I can get companies to make plates to fit, but we’re not allowed to put on the name of the state as it is against the law, & for me to get law abiding plates it was a process & a half & a trial of red tape & paperwork.
So a very good Vietnamese friend of mine was going to visit his parents in Vietnam.
He took my plate frames, my Aussie number plates & at a fraction of the cost I got plates that look 100% legitimate & reflective made in Vietnam to fit my frames perfectly.
Now I am waiting for my friend to return from Vietnam & I am getting screw & bolts made up for my Mopar that will be a carbon copy of the factory bolts for peanuts.
You may be able to get scoops made in Vietnam to look like factory scoops with the correct look for next to nothing.
BTW Steve, that broken scoop any chance I can buy it so I can add to my collection of unique car parts. Be awesome to have genuine W 31 scoop in Australia.
I had my very good friend Eugene in Austin, Texas recently purchase on my behalf a very limited edition book on 503 copies released by Bob Ashton from MCACN regarding the Mopar Winged Warriors that have graced MCACN over the year, the book arrived yesterday & I am safe to say it will be the only copy in Australia, due to the fact the sellers will not mail it outside the States even Canada.
Last but not least I realised I own a 1:18 metal diecast of a 1969 Oldsmobile W30 in the same colour & blackouts as OG.
Anyway take care buddy enjoying your video’s.
    Cheers
Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Melbourne, Australia 👍 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

Hey there !!! Great to hear from you again. I really appreciate those compliments. This is such a crazy thing to me! I'm sitting down on a Friday night replying to such nice comments from the other side of the globe about a video of me working on my childhood car. Simply mind blowing to me. Very humbling to say the least.
      Thank You
In the meantime, I'll stick with OE Olds scoops.
Sorry, the original scoop is not for sale, although I'm sure it would be going to a good home in your garage, I'll be keeping it to display in my shop.
I really can't thank you enough for taking the time to watch and comment. Please help spread the word.
      speak soon,
      -steve

Very cool! When the time comes to paint my f85 w31 I’ve got to do some fiberglass work on the front of the hood. I’ve been professionally doing fiberglass and bodywork at a big boat dealership in upstate NY for around twenty years. The best part of the job is being able to use the knowledge to work on old cars.

Hey Marc - Thanks for tuning in to this one. Fiberglass repair is something I've just never done. Thankfully these scoops are plastic - so I was able to pull something off.
Your car look great as -is but I know what you mean, I sometime would really love to repaint mine...again.
Lets see about getting together this upcoming season.

Great channel. Is the car a W 31 or a Ram Rod 350 or both? What if you drilled out the hole w a hole saw and use the cut out to patch the other side? Now you can move over the scoop and fill cut out with original material.

    • @theautorefinery
      @theautorefinery  6 месяцев назад

Hey there and thank you for watching.
This car, being a 1969 , is referred to as a w-31 while the air cleaner decal reads "Ram Rod 350"
in 1968 , the first year offered, they were referred to as Ram Rod 350's and not W-31 yet. And the air cleaner decal would read Rocket 350.
As far as the repair goes, believe me when I say, we've considered all practical options. while the repair procedure you suggested, and one I had considered would certainly help move the scoop, it would certainly create a whole different issue. How to finish and hide the repair in the wheel well so it would be invisible... not really possible.
      I appreciate your playing along,
      -steve

Good morning Keith Great to hear from you, thanks for tuning in. It's just amazing how after these years we're still learning more little details about the cars' history.
I'm happy with how it came out too.
      Until next time....

Good morning Ryan....... yeah I take full and complete responsibility for that poor judgement. I meant it when I said it - " shame on you steve-o" I've only now begun to forgive myself a little bit each day.
I can picture you yelling at the TV. That's good to hear, that means you've connected with the OG too.!!!
Thanks for watching and playing along with our channel.

hahaha now THAT would be something. Truth be told, it doesn't help that situation that is....we still need scoops for Mr Jones. Good / decent originals though I know I said in the video that aftermarket ones will be ok for Mr Jones but NOPE. Changed my mind on that too.
      Thanks for watching.
