The only difference I've ever noticed between Purex and Southern Drawl in about $45
Guys I don’t think anyone can argue that professional grade is always going to be better than laundry soap. I don’t think that’s the true question here. I think the true question that effects all of our daily operations is cost!!! We can get laundry grade surfactant for $10... “professional grade” cost on average $50 to the delivery door for a marginal difference in performance. Sooooo is it really worth it???? I’m sorry but I still can’t seem to find the benefit in the extra expense. Just my humble opinion.
I agree 100% I've been using Gain for years and it cleans just as good as anything that cost 50 bucks or more. I like making my pockets fatter
Used the pro crap a few times and can't justify the cost for it. Laundry detergent has been working out just fine. I wash lots of different surfaces and have yet to have any complaints from customers.
You hit the nail right on the head! I've seen a few guys that have more experience than me; use laundry detergent as well as Dawn (the version that can be used with bleach).
@@Ahch. which version of dawn can be used with bleach. I'd like to give it a try
@@clivebrown400 Peace, its the 'Platinum Dawn' if I'm not mistaken. There is no warning on the label regarding mixing it with bleach (aka sodium hypochlorite for the industry snobs). Gain laundry detergent also works good.
I've used both and have been in this game for a very long time and I can tell u laundry soap or dawn works great and is way way cheaper, it's the way to go.
Yep I was thinking about using gain dish soap as well smells really good
For roofs you want more sticking to surface, for siding the soap really doesn't make a big difference. You really don't need soap at all for siding actually very little is better makes rinsing much easier. Good video Scott. Keep em coming.
im guessing just sh and water for vinyl siding?
@@juicylyricstv1640 I haven't tested it myself, but I hear that using a surfactant helps keep it from drying on the surface. So if you need longer dwell time on a sunny day it could help.
@@juicylyricstv1640you can put a little squirt just so you can see when you're soaping
I live in arizona so everything here is dryvit/stucco.
So somethin sticky really helps the bleach get in all those nooks
"Oh man, this stuff is much slicker than the laundry soap we been using, I can't wait to try it up on the roof we are going to do tomorrow"...
Ive been using PUREX its sudsy and clings the SH to the vertical surface real good u can see the suds clinging the SH to the siding in little water drops just hanging there💯💯💯
Is the PUREX HE? I think HE is less sudsy
I personally believe in using premium chemicals because I am charging premium prices and it has to be diluted so that $50 bottle makes 10 or so gallons if I have to pinch pennies like that then I’m doing something wrong somewhere else but to each their own. Good video Scott.
i think he was surprised by how much better the premium was.
Premium results are what matter. How you get those results are irrelevant to the customer. If I can get premium results for 1/10th the cost, that's a winner all day every day for me. And a ten-fold difference in the cost of a consumable is not pinching pennies. Maybe over the course of a job or two, but over the course of the life of your business it's significant. But you do you, every business is different.
Which one do you recommend using? Thank you so much
Its soap. Stop over thinking it.
SLO MO! Bucket instructions say it's 8 oz per HUNDRED gallons. I've literally bought only one 5 gallon bucket (bought in March or April, 2019, yes, 2 years ago, almost) and I still have around a 5th of it left. I wash everything from concrete, vinyl, stucco, metal, wood, composite decking, skylights, solar panels, steeples, bricks, pavers, asphalt shingles, metal roofing, etc. It never leaves a residue on glass and I use it to clean everything, every time! I can't speak highly enough about it! I still want to get some Southeast Softwash surfactant though simply because I've only read good things about it and I can't wait to see how it compares to Elemonator on scent! I've never used clothes detergent, only pro surfactants, but I have heard of people using Gain in the green bottle and/or Dawn dish detergent, but I wouldn't recommend it for an every day professional. I've always been told not to mix SH with Dawn, but I don't know why or what happens. I'm sticking with the pro soap simply because I know what the outcome will be when I'm finished! North Carolina here. Good video btw! Thanks brother!
Facts
Scott I have been using Southern Drawl for about 6-8 months now. I tried several different options including some laundry soap.... never going to switch from Southern Drawl, it gets the job done and is not going to break the bank doing it!! I’m picking up an alumimax pro from him in a few weeks, super excited to not have to batch mix ever again!
I hear you!!!
Where do I buy this soap
That's a big difference. I use the cheap La Awesome laundry soap
Hey Scott for roofs I would just use the cheapest soap cause u need alot of it and for siding u should use the better surfactants like Slang and drawl or elemonator but the real test would be how the two different soaps react to spraying on windows cause some surfactants leave a haze on windows even if you rinse good. Also no offense to the Southwash wand but if the ball valve broke that easy it's pretty delicate! I made my own soft wash wands but use the ball valves for plumbing from Menard's they're pvc alitte bigger then Cody's and I need to use your whole hand to turn them but they won't break. I drop them all the time. A year now and never broke one of them. Cost like $3
These work great. I dropped it pretty high up
4 downstreaming all you need is a little squirt of Dawn or Gain dish soap
How much u using laundry soap per gallon?
@nenadstefanovic622 I used about 4 Oz per gallon cause it's not real thick like eliminator.I like arm and hammer oxy.But lately I just use any kind of dish soap in my house mix enough to just see some suds.Never any spotting.I was wondering how Cascade dish soap would work for house mix?
Dude make a video of those soft wash wands I want to make one please from an annoying Jersey guy LOL
Good morning brother in blue. I retired almost 5 yrs ago and have run my hardscape business for 13 yrs. I have really enjoyed watching your journey in this business. I have begun my build of a sw/pw trailer and am extremely excited for the spring. Keep the videos coming. Stay safe and God bless.
Thank you for your service. Keep grinding
I use southern draw as well I just put my last gallon in the tank. I have to order more. Thanks for reminding me. Lol

You sir just sold me on sesw surfactants! Ive been using extra for a while
i have always understood dirt isn't the problem in cleaning , it is the oils that bind the dirt to the surface. Does " MORE FOAM " necessarily mean better cleaning ? i know that Dawn dish soap foams like crazy BUT Purple Power which hardly foams CLEANS much better >
@Pacos Pete
As a soapmaker, who is just getting into learning about pressure washing; I just wanted to explain a bit in regards to your question.
The biggest misunderstanding that most people have when understanding bubbles/foam vs cleaning is that the bubbles/foam is NOT what cleans. Many people associate "more bubbles" with "cleaning ability", due to soaps such as dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, or liquid shampoos/body wash.
These are formulated with "lather boosters" to make it more bubbly. So people began to associate "more bubbles" with "cleaning ability".
The best example to explain this would be how HE washing machines requires a "low sudsing" detergent. This doesn't mean that it will clean less; it just means that the detergent was formulated without the added lather boosters.
Another difference is that "bubbles" and "foam" are actually very different. Bubbles are pretty little pockets of air that is more visually appealing to many people. Foam, is a thick/dense lather, with much smaller sized bubbles. (Dawn is formulated to be "bubbly")
So that is why you are experiencing better cleaning with the low foam cleaner, is because it is probably formulated without as many lather boosters, but still has good cleaning ability.
As far as I am aware, however, the surfactants used in pressure washing are designed to foam up more, so that it sticks to surfaces longer, rather than easily just sliding down a surface (such as a roof/wall, etc...). Bubbly soaps don't stick to surfaces as well as a foamy soap will.
I hope that makes sense!
Ordered a skid from them today. Can’t wait to start this journey.
Awesome
I had a boss that worried about these things to haha waste of money buying "professional" soaps.
This is my first time watching your videos and also I am trying my best to do research so I can start my own pressure/power washing business
I use Southern Drawl as well. Good soap. Try out a Gilmore nozzle on that set up. Might surprise yourself.
Just a guess here but for those using laundry detergent, I think avoiding HE versions for front loaders will produce more dwell and cling better. The HE versions are meant to produce less suds.
It seems like people use the terms “soap” and “surfactant” interchangeably which confuses me because, to me, soap is a cleaner and surfactant helps the cleaner stick to the surface so it doesn’t run off as fast. What am I missing?
Just words
Whaddup Scott! I’ve honestly used about all the “cheap soap” surfactants. Getting my hands on some of that Southern drawl real soon! Suds straight out the wand it looks like 👀
💚💚💚Great comparison, thanks for sharing, Scott! 💚💚💚
Thanks boss man
works ok in a pinch but, laundry soap has a bleach neutralizing component in it. you'll use way more S/H
Which is better for driveways?
What's your state, county, local law regarding run off chemicals?
Brother thank you for this video. I have searched forums and youtube for a video on how to mix surfactants, or if you even mix them with a proportioner.
And I was told to just drop my soap stick right into my unmixed soap and adjust as needed. I find it will work better for me since I have so much run off if I mix with water first. But there's a right way for a reason I just wanna know then move forward. So thanks man.
I use agriculture foam marker soap at 50/1 ratio and suds galore.
Can I ask what kind you use? And where I get it brother?

Dawn dish soap works best to me
@@ScottCleansIt awesome thanks dude
Keep up the great videos my man loving the content.
I thought laundry soap is supposed to have less bubbles since washing machines have agitators and could bubble over
It does that's why you have to use more of it
I'm still new at this but here's my take so far. Was using Purex but decided to try some "professional" soap. The difference is so small it just doesn't justify 50 bucks a gallon instead of 6 bucks a gallon. I'm starting to think most pressure washing youtubers are in the chemical sales and training course profession way more than pressure washing.
yep
Love the 4K quality
Thanks

No doubt more suds, do you plan on dialing back the surfactant even more for a house wash? Isn't that much suds going to increase your rinse time?
Yes. We did a job yesterday with it filed way back. It went a long way

I have used Gain for two years running and it works very, very well for me. What's just as good is the fact that I can drive to Costco and buy the bigger size for just $17. It's readily available! I was seriously considering the soft washing surfactants but when these guys mark-up those shipping fees.....forget it! You'd be paying for two five gallon pales and receiving only one pale.
How strong do you like to mix your gain?
@@JeffrikOG9 I use it for XJetting so I'll mix a cup of the Gain per four gallons of bleach. Also, I wouldn't bet that the Gain laundry soap performs better than the pro surfactants, I just despise paying 150-200 dollars for a five gallon jug of the stuff. My work still comes out clean and satisfactory.
Hey bro, how much Gain do you use in your mix?
@@Justforall7I would use 1 oz per gallon for house washing and a little more for roof
Morning Scott keep up the grind!
yes sir scott!
Awesome works great but you must neutralize it or spread it evenly on the surface
I use Xtra and apple Dawn together while downstreaming yes it's OP, but it smells frickin good🗣😂
Best surfactant (in my opinion) is maxi suds 2 from chemical guys
I'm not to the point in my business where buying these professional products would help increase my profit margins. It would only cost more for the same job done. I don't think the money is worth the amount of time saved for me right now.
I thought the same but they are concentrate. And they seem to last much longer
The main thing is the mettering system on a 1200 sq ft house wash I use about 40 gal of water 10 gal of sh and 1 gal of surfactant that is diluted 16 to 1, I use the apple blossom with the marker dye customers love it and it smells good
Time is money
Thanks for the quick response I really appreciate it, what is a good size tank for soap and bleach and did you say 1 cup of laundry soap to a 14 gallons I thought you used 1 gallon of product to 10 gallons of water
My soap is thicker.
This is a money game.

Great info brother! Can you please show a video of how to prime the softwash system? Im new and bought a small skid and ran the tanks empty now i can’t get it to shoot water :/ help!
lemon and cherry flavour scott 😁😁
This is gonna be a dumb question but do you mix it 10:1 with water and then it gets mixed again with water and bleach?
10:1 is too much. this product companies want you to buy more product. it doesn't take much soap at all. it's not exact science. get your bleach mixture right then add a little soap. easy
@@ScottCleansIt thanks I'll give it a shot I just made a budget soft wash system so looking forward to giving it a try. I used it on the end of my drive way and it seemed to work well I just gotta work on getting the right sh mixture
The real question is, is the professional surfactant THAT MUCH better than the laundry surfactant considering the price IS that much more expensive than laundry surfactant.... The answer is NO... it's not that much better to justify the big price increase. Just use laundry surfactant with a touch of dish soap in the mix. those suds will outlast any 'pro' surfactant at less than 1/3 of the price.
How do you know it's cherry flavored?
Did you taste it?
I may have to try pro grade surfactants. I've been using the Xtra laundry detergent as well. It's come to my attention I've been leaving film on windows even after a triple rinsing each pane of glass. Anyone else have a problem with laundry det leaving film on windows?
Beautiful skid! 😍
I'm new to this. Do you mix the soap in with the bleach together then pre spray it on home?
Yep
I use liquid soap from dollar store, works ok…..
If you have a 50 gallon drum 25 gallon SH and 25 gallon water how much oz of surfactant do you add for this mix
Test liquid gain. I used professional grade soap ! But if I was going to use laundry soap I would use gain !!!
laundry soap isnt made to "suds"... dish soap is... suds in your washer would be a bad thing....
What’s your ratio for the laundry soap?
You said you mixed the Southern Drawl 1/10..... what ratio did you the mix the laundry soap ?

What size soap tank is that on the skid?

Got the one thing you didn't tell us is how much per how many ounces are you putting in for a gallon on the laundry soap compared to the the professional so because their professional soap is asking for 8.5 Oz per gallon to how much dishwashing liquid detergent are you using per gallon thank you
You’re overthinking it. With my metering valve it was the same ratio with the laundry soap and the pro soap.
You don’t have to have it down to ounces. I put one gallon to 12 then when the tanks empty I just fill it back up halfway with water and get a little more soap
Cool. I just went to thier channel and they call for 1 gallons to every 15 gallons of water. And 4 gallon at $100.00, the cost comes out to $25.00 a gallon, just that was a little high per gallon. Thank you for your time, keep them coming.

Does the appearance of the suds translate to the actual cleaning performance?
Soap doesn't really clean. It's mainly for letting the SH stick

Great video Scott. Did you say 10 to 1 and fill the surfactant tank?
It’s 10 to 1 in the tank. If you fill it the rest of the way then it won’t be 10:1
You can go 10:1 or 15:1 and then adjust the valve as needed.

Great video! Do what you do
All you have to do is add less water than what you would use with the surfactant.
I’m having a hard time finding a ratio anyone uses for the wash detergent. I have a water tank that draws from the home with a Hudson valve, then I have a separate tank for my sh. So I would have to put the gain right into the tank. So I use 30 gallons, how much soap do I drop in the tank, I’ve also Ben told to add the soap before picking up my sh. New to the game and just stating my own thing after retiring from PD. Thanks guys
Don't overthink soap. Put some in the bkeach tank and roll out
Hey Scott, How much did you dilute the Xtra in tank for mixing valve setup? My Wife got me 3 jugs of that Xtra that I need to use up (on roofs) first! 😁
Btw, Think I heard Coty say you can go up to 15:1 in tank but, it's just a preference thing! Lots of good reviews on SESW surfactants!

@@ScottCleansIt is this 5:1 in a separate tank, or do you draw directly from the Xtra bottle/jug?

Laundry soap is formulated to be low sudsing which means there's not as many bubbles didn't you read that on the package? Why do you think they want that? They want that because they don't want the washing machine to fill up with soap bubbles. That's why it doesn't make as many bubbles.
