To setup netgear ex2800 extender you will need only your cell phone or computer. You just need to type mywifiext.net into the browser after connecting your device to netgear_ext network name in your wifi list. After the setup is complete then you can place the extender halfway between your router and the location with poor wifi.

If it's modem cum router then it will work fine and you just have to follow the steps given here in the video...Else if it's just router then I think you will need to get a router first and then setup the extender.

Are you associated with Netgear? I was talking with a Netgear tech and he kept trying to sell me a firewall service. Needless to say he wouldn't help me install the extender.
