Netgear WiFi Extender Setup Without Website or Computer

- How to set up the Netgear WiFi Extender without using a computer or pulling up a website. When I got our Netgear WiFi Extender, I wasted almost and hour trying to configure it by trying to follow Netgear's instructions and attempting to log on to their setup website, entering an IP address, connecting to the extender WLAN....all without success. Instead, I followed the steps in the video and had it setup in about three minutes.
PLEASE NOTE: most of the questions I get involve those with routers that don't have WPS buttons, or those who have non-Netgear routers. In these instances, you may have to upgrade your router and/or purchase a Netgear router to have compatibility with your Netgear extenders. Contact Netgear support to confirm this - I am NOT affiliated with Netgear. Хобби
You can purchase Netgear WiFi Extenders here: amzn.to/3T0nM0q
If your router is having trouble connecting with your extender, you may need to upgrade it. The router used in this video is available here: amzn.to/4bCT8BN
Thanks, your video was a million times easier to understand than the official Netgear how to setup video
That's great to hear - thanks!
You're a legend mate, cheers. Quick and straight to the point.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to help --
Thanks mate. for your clear "no fluff" video instructions :)
Just a heads up for other users. My router's WPS button wasn't responding. So I logged into my router, and my WPS service was disabled. When I enabled, the extender and router found each other, and BOOM ! ... I was able to connect. I have the Netgear AC1200 Model EX6110.
Appreciate the pointer - yeah, it seems when there are issues with the extenders it's actually an issue with the router --
Thank you! The directions made it seem like it was going to be complicated but your video simplified it immensely!
Awesome - glad the video helped!
Just got the exact product, looked at the instructions and came straight to RUclips, so glad I found your video! It was informative, super simple and had my TV and phone that was in a weak spot, connected to the Internet in less than 5 min. Thank you!!
Awesome! Glad my vid helped!
Same!!! Lol
@@lindamtz What is the model number?
@@brandon2521 idk I returned it already…lol
Bought an AC1200 extender today, $57. Watched this video, extender up and running in 5 minutes. Thank you!

Omg you are a life saver!! Thank you so much for the video and the instructions!!
Glad it's helping you - thanks!
Thanks so much man
Nice video and the tip about the extender 'device' light not necessary needing to be on really helped :)
Thanks for the feedback and glad the video helped!
I sat here struggling going in circles bc the actual Like Local website on the thing would load so I could like “set it up” but Your vid helped a bunch thank you 🎉
Awesome - glad it helped and thanks for the feedback!

You the man. Kept saying no internet connection through the computer and nobody could find a solution to that
That's what happened to me.....so I knew I wasn't alone 😁
Short and to the point.. thank you!
Thanks for the feedback!
Been trying to get device light on for weeks!! Going to try your method. Thanks! Should have come here first.
Hope it works for you - reboot your router if you keep having issues --
Finally a common man explanation. Thanks sir. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks for the great feedback! Glad the vid helped --
Worked like a charm. Thanks
Glad it worked!
This was perfect help. No frills, pussyfooting around showing all sides of the box and other nonsense.
Thanks for the feedback - appreciate it!
Thanks for the upload as I’m about to instal one rn
Hope it works out for you!
@@DoItYourselfandSave it was absolutely easy after watching your video so thanks again
Brilliant video connected in minutes and extremely easy to understand thanks
Glad it helped - thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! I was about to throw mine away because the instructions that came with the device were so complicated.
Yeah Netgear's instructions aren't always the best. Hope you got your extender working ok!
thank you man imma share this over to the people who need help because you hit the nail on the head
Thanks for the feedback and glad this helps!
I'm trying to connect the Netgear AC750. I have the wifi extended booster right by the modem and router. But it will not connect. What should I do next.
Thank you for sharing this you saved me from going nuts.
Glad to save you therapy expenses! 😀
Thanks so much for this; steps are straightforward. Success at the end thanks to you.
Glad to help - appreciate the kind words!
I’ve had this for a while now for my old router but then the router broke down so I got a new one and after I’ve connected the extender to the new wifi router using this method I’m trying to get into it but it needs a password and I tried putting in my wifi password but it didn’t work and I’m not sure how to use the booster wifi
For our setup, the extender uses the same password as the router. Also, you can always get in touch with Netgear tech support if you're running into problems.
thanks so much man.
helpful and quick .
got my work done in a few minutes ( i wouldve taken hours )
Awesome - glad the video helped!
Good day! I'm a new member on your site... ,, I
have set up quite easily my netgear model 6150 ,, I've noticed after installing it that 2GEXT was not secured.. Is there any way that I can secure it without having to go through out the whole process?
Honestly that's getting beyond my level of expertise - sorry! But I've dealt with Netgear's tech support via their toll-free number and found them very helpful. Call Netgear directly and they will help you out --
Thanks man, great video! Have one question, will the Netgear extender pop up in my wifi settings? Or will it just work
It should be visible in your Wi-Fi settings as if it's a new router - you can connect to the extender instead of the router --
Probably a stupid question but for example I have bad connection on my TV which is far away from my wifi.. do I connect it to the extender or leave it on the normal wifi?
Not stupid at all - I had a similar issue. I would connect your TV to the extender. So, for example, if you are using Roku, you can go to the settings in the TV and you should see your router wi-fi (Netgear01 for instance) and the extender wi-fi (Netgear01_2 or something like that). Use the extender wi-fi Netgear01_2 and you should get better streaming speed.
Thank you sir!!! The original box instructions were too confusing 😂😂😂💯
Glad to help, cheers!
Can you add 2 of these extenders to one wireless router or is the router just compatible with one extender? Thanx!
Pretty sure you can add more than one extender to a single router, though I've never done so. I'm sure there would be videos out there on how to do it, though. Apparently you have to make sure that each extender doesn't interfere with the other.
W vid W man explained everything perfectly W
I bought it awhile back and had no problems with it until now when I connect it to the 2gext it says no internet connection and it shows I’m connected. I’ve resetted it and everything
Is your router working ok? I've noticed that when I've had issues with extenders, check the router first -
Ty man you help me so many
I reset my extender and tried to reconnect with the same router, but WPS light is not staying on. It blinks for a while and then turns off. Please help!
Try rebooting the router and if that doesn't work, contact Netgear tech support.
Thanks man, this is truly helpful. Tech support of Netgear sucks
Glad it helped - yeah, their support could use some improvements --
@@DoItYourselfandSave totally agree, that tech support does not help. Again thanks a lot
Will the password stay the same on the extender to what you created when you set up your modem/router?
Yes, the password flows from the router to the extender.
a million thanks for showing me how to do it but, is there an app or something like how to i go to the settings of the netgear devise itself???
That's something you should ask Netgear tech support - I don't know tbh
What is the benefit of a smart bulb? Just curious
Is the password going to be the same has the WiFi ?
Yes - same password as the wifi router.
I have this same one doesnt really boost the wifi very far at all. Our router is at the front of the house and my room is all the way at the back. The only thing that works is if I plug it in right next to the router which pretty much defeats the purpose. Any ideas?
There are distance limits, are the rooms too far apart? It's important to configure the extender near the router when setting it up, but then it can be moved. BTW your icon featuring The Dude is awesome.
@@DoItYourselfandSaveThanks for your reply the dude abides
I have one already but a bought another one same one , and the one that a bought only the green light is turn on the router and the WPS.. but on the device is not on the light i want to know what that means i hope you can help me.
Get in touch with Netgear support. Could be a defective product.
@@DoItYourselfandSave thank you
I have a T mobile router that doesn’t have a WPS button. On their support site it says to refer to the extender for support 😤 any tips?
I'm not much help if the manufacturers are different. You may have to change to a Netgear router, but make sure it would be compatible to your T Mobile network.
What exactly do you mean when you say the device was configured earlier? Will I have to go online to configure the device?
Actually, what I meant was: I had configured the extender before the video and didn't completely reset it. As long as you follow the video you won't need to go online to configure the device.
Can i use this extender 50-100 meters away from the router? Thank you.
That's quite a distance....I rather doubt it but not sure. Check the specs via the Netgear website and also look up "wifi repeaters".
Any tips on getting that WPS button to work? I've tried and it just won't connect - even reset the extender. The complications of trying to get it to connect using the website method is aggravating.
Thanks in advance!
Yes, the website is a PITA. If you keep running into problems, just call Netgear tech support. They are very helpful as I've had router issues (not extender issues) that I had to contact them about.
My goodness 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback --
I have a Netgear extender but I cannot get the app to do or show anything that I need to do to get it hooked up I don't see how you guys do it
If you're still having trouble after watching my vid, try getting in touch with Netgear support.
I have a google fiber router Box with no wps button. What other option can I do to connect the extender
Sorry, I don't have a good answer. It's probably best to use matching brands with routers and extenders --
Did u figure it out ? I’m on same boat smh
Thank you so much for the video. Easy and straightforward. NetGear directions are trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep - their directions are pretty bad! Thanks for the feedback --
so what would u do if the wps on the router doesnt light up?
I would try rebooting the router (unplug it, wait 20 seconds, plug it back in again). Beyond that - for real expertise, get in touch with Netgear tech support.
Great video it helped me a lot! But why doesn’t the extender appear on my device ?
If the device you're referring to is your router - it could be that your router is a different manufacturer, or it's older and it's probably time to upgrade.
I have three green lights on the net gear but the device one ain’t green what does that mean?
You don't have any smart devices running off the extender yet. Once you connect a device to the extender (not the router), you'll see the device green light turn on.
Great video
Do i have to configure or tinker around with ip website?
No website involved at all.
I have 2 options it says 5gEXT and 2GEXT which one do I use ?
Here's an overview of the pros and cons: www.highspeedinternet.com/resources/2-4-ghz-vs-5-ghz-wi-fi
great tutorial for setting up the extender but how do you get the password for your WiFi extender?
You use the password for your WiFi router; usually it's located on a sticker on the bottom of your router. If you can't locate the router password, call tech support for the router manufacturer.
@@DoItYourselfandSave ok I'll try that thanks
@@DoItYourselfandSave what if that didn’t work?

Thank you!!
You bet!
Great video, i tried the link in 3 browsers and none worked, i couldn't access the extender Netgear interface..
Hope this vid helped, thanks for the feedback --
Everything works but i did it how your video shows but the device light doesnt come on. Every other light is on
The device light won't come on until you connect a device (such as a smart bulb) to the extender.
Thank you sir🎉
You bet - thank you as well!
Thanks man
what do i connect to if i don’t have a light bulb??
You can connect to this: ruclips.net/video/IM_412WlY80/видео.html
I got all of the lights to turn green except for the device light, what do I do?
You should be good to go - device light won't be on until you connect a device (like a smart bulb) to the extender.
@@DoItYourselfandSave thank you
Which network should I use, 2G or 5G? Which is better?
There are pros and cons to each; honestly I've had better luck by not using 5G but that's my own experience. This page will help: www.highspeedinternet.com/resources/2-4-ghz-vs-5-ghz-wi-fi
Thank you !!!
You're welcome!
How do you connect to t mobile 5g home internet????
Not sure on 5g. I would think it would be similar, but get hold of Netgear tech support for the details.
What if you don’t have a wps button?
All my lights are green but when I try to connect my game to it, it’s telling me I need authentication
You mean like a login ID and password? If so, you'll need to use the login info for your wi-fi router.
Not working for me. Just bought this product this afternoon. I have a router and modem from Spectrum but not connecting with extender.
I wonder if it's a compatibility issue. Spectrum likely doesn't make their own routers, so whoever does might not work well with Netgear --
@@DoItYourselfandSave yeah I’m probably gonna take it back and do some research on what kind of extender I can use..
Please help, my router and the box wont connect WPS!!
Try rebooting (unplug, wait 20 seconds, then plug in) your router. If that doesn't work, are you sure that your router is compatible with the extender? Get in touch with Netgear tech support to find out.
what is my wifi router wps button is now blinking red?
Unplug the router, wait 20 seconds, then go through the process again.
Bought this thing back in 2021 and had to factory reset it today. I don't remember ever making an account or logging into the device itself (this pc has no wifi). Thank you for the quick information sir
Sure...thanks for the feedback!
What happens if my wifi Router doesn’t have a wps button?
It could be time to upgrade your router. In fact, we found ourselves in that situation. But double check with Netgear tech support first before shelling out for a new router.
What if my router doesn’t have a wps button only a reset button
You may have to upgrade your router. Contact Netgear's toll free support line for more info.
My router doesn't have wps button so how do I connect it
You might have to upgrade the router; contact Netgear support.
Do you know what to do if it’s connecting but saying no internet connection?
The problem might be your router? Make sure your router is 100% (via desktop or tablet computer). The extender needs to connect to the router before anything connects to the extender.
Thanks!
You're welcome!
What is WPS..? As a matter of fact, idk what any of what you said means. I just know I plug it In, The lights go, it says Connected Without internet. I'm Considering returning it.
Sorry it's not working out for you - you can always get in touch with Netgear tech support for more help.
Love you
what if im staying in a hotel i cant use it?
It's designed for use in the home.
Its asking me for a password when i try to connect to the extender
Use the password for your router, which should be on a label at the bottom of the router.
uh what if my router doesnt have a wps button?
You may have to reach out to Netgear tech support. And if your router is an older model, you may have to get a newer upgraded one.
@@DoItYourselfandSave i reached out to the support and i have it working now ty🙏
Excellent! It should stay solid for a long time. I haven't touched our extenders in months --
Does it work good with gaming?
I really don't know - but I use ours to stream movies from the major streaming services and it works just fine --
I got 3 lights on green but the device’s light is not on ,how come ?
Your extender sees the router, but you don't have any smart devices connected to the extender. Check the last part of the video where I connect a smart bulb to the extender, and you should see all four lights on.
@@DoItYourselfandSave got it connected,thanks bro .
Awesome! You're welcome --

What to do if netgear ext is not visible on the network list?
It's not correctly linked or communicating with the router. Are you sure it connected to the router? Start by rebooting the router and then go through the process again.

What doesn't have a WPS button? Your router? If that's the case, it might be time to upgrade your router.
You are the fucking man bro
W Video!!!!
Can you work on Xfinity?
Works on any wifi
It works on an Xfinity Gateway. Though, I had to use another method which required connecting to the extender’s network and accessing an IP address to help setup the extender. I would post a link but RUclips is likely going to remove my comment
Thanks for the tips!
I did the steps and the device light is the only one not lighting up
You need to configure a device - like a smart bulb - to run off the extender. Watch the last portion of the video where I show how to add a smart bulb.
