    I do the filter first. After dropping a slippery and hot filter into a drain pan full of oil and having it splash all over the underside and me, I changed to 'filter first' .
    also note how close the filter is to the hot exhaust. Bad design.

      That’s why you let the engine cool before doing this.

    the shorter filter may be the right one due to its length getting it off.

    Is there a reason the check engine light came on after the oil change?

    • @DCAutoEnhancement
      @DCAutoEnhancement  3 года назад +1

      I would check oil level. That can cause a light. Another idea is to take your car by an auto parts place and have them check for codes

    GM put the smaller filter on at the factory, saves a few cents and may be 'out of the way' more.

    • @DCAutoEnhancement
      @DCAutoEnhancement  5 лет назад

      I actually had a conversation about this yesterday. I was told that mechanics like to use the shorter filter because it's easier to change but the one I use is the one that is listed for use on that engine

    Great video. Here is a forum thread about oil filter size: mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/7692/are-there-benefits-to-using-an-oversized-oil-filter I am sure if anything goes wrong the mfg will probably void the warranty if you use a different sized filter. In my opinion as long as the filter structure on the inside is the same and your oil pressure is still within its min/max values it should be fine. But with how much tech is in these newer cars the computer could try and compensate if there are any minor issues with it.

    • @DCAutoEnhancement

      Thank you for not only noticing but commenting on the oil filter. I looked over your link and I hope others do as well. This is the first oil change that I have done on this vehicle. I did do a search and purchased the oil filter listed. I can only assume at this point that the previous owner used a different filter

  • @markwarnberg9504

    GM!!! Stupid place to put an oil filter! Those Equinox Engins are prone too failure if the oil changes are not tight, knowing that, the oil change should be made easy! Stabalizer must mean the engin is burning oil.....why use such an expensive oil as Castrol?

    • @DCAutoEnhancement
      @DCAutoEnhancement  Год назад +1

      I used the stabilizer because I thought it was a good thing for the engine. I no longer use it regularly. The Castrol oil I used was one of the more least expensive oils I could find.

      @@DCAutoEnhancement Try WalMart Super Tec Motor Oil or Amazon Basic....home delievery, Costco has Kirkland Oil, all of them come from Warren Dist. now owned by Esson/Mobil. ALL OILS on the market are API/ILSAC Rated meaning they are ALL QUALITY OILS no matter the BRAND NAME! What is important is the Grade and Viscosity as stated in your owners manual.

      @DCAutoEnhancement since the early 90's always worked on my vehicles bare handed but the last 5 years I've used nitrile gloves. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado that had the power steering pump leak all over everything on the driver's side of the engine when I bought it from the previous owner in 2019. Before replacing the power steering pump and water pump I cleaned everything up and the nitrile gloves saves my hands from all of the built up gunk. Now whenever I work on my vehicles or lawn equipment I always wear gloves and I still have a container of Fast Orange and Gojo Cherry that I've had for at least 5-6 years that hasn't been used because my hands are clean when I'm done 😂
