This channel has helped me so much since moving into our 60s bungalow. This channel has given me the confidence to rip out the whole bathroom and re-fit a new one! I'm going to tackle a new central heating system off my new found confidence thanks to this channel. Just need to find a plumber who will move my boiler and is happy with me doing the donkey work.
Watching you setting up your copper pipe work is like seeing someone make balloon animals for the first time!! Really enjoying the channel. Thanks for all you’re doing here!
@@plumberparts Ha ha, you're welcome James. Your videos have been amazing and I've done so much in the house just from watching them! Just wanted to say thanks and let you know that all the help you give people is appreciated! :-)
That was awesome how you made you and big G in the toy truck, great bit of filming. Plus it was funny when Emily jumped when testing the taps near the end bless her. Thank you great video as normal 😊
Top video James, soon to be tackling a bathroom refurb so some great nuggets and potential pitfalls to look out for.. After seeing your heat mat and tile under your soldering when doing the filler valves I was then waiting for you to set light to the floor membrane when you came to solder those 90s....
When we did my parents bathroom concealed shower, the handset thread was to short to go through tile, adhesive, backerboard and OSB. Since we had already tanked we had to cobble together an arbour backwards to cut out the OSB inside our boxing
Great video James. I'm looking at installing a replacement shower in an en-suit, still researching types and makes etc. Found the Bristan Artisan Dual Concealed Mixer Shower with Shower Handset + Fixed Head. Any particular advice for the installation?
Please please Please someone tell me the name of the part that the water feeds into and the valve also screws into on these internal wall mount taps. It’s a 3 way knuckle seen here!
I fitted the exact same taps last month. The threads are too short. After a change of plan and a few choice words all was well and the taps look lovely. Annoying though
I’m honestly don’t remember now sorry. The one I was doing there was no way to mount other than the threads. If they’d had fixings to surface mount onto a ply pattress it would have been easy
@@plumberparts Hahahahaha! 😂 Like Richard I wondered why you didn’t use thicker Hardie backer boards and forget the ply and make life easy on yourself but this answer is a peach! 😂
Bit of a backwards way to to it. Not a bad way but usually you put the tap in position first and pipe it up. You can then pattress the wall, recessing between the studs to give you your 9mm clearances you lost. 👍🏻
Why ply plus hardiebacker? Could you not have put a couple noggins in and just put hardiebacker onto studs? They’re supposed to negate the need for ply.

Can't you just trim the panel down?" Wobble wobble. See: Rolf Harris "wobble board" Or, er... Don't. Loafer erupts with George Carlin's "seven dirty words" Proceed with caution. Hardie on its own (so not 6mm) and a tile with adhesive would still have been too deep. My point is from a manufacturer perspective why not just give us a few more threads!
Hardibacker brand name, is cement board. Rigid and can carry heavier weight tiles than plaster board. Can be tiled directly on to. Can also be used (as I have) as a liner for a fireplace as it is entirely noncombustible!

Could you not recess the ply between your studs? So face of ply is level with face of studs? Therefore gaining 6/9mm of depth on the valve? 👍🏻
I don’t think plumbers are carpenters. They don’t have routers 😝
Nah I’m plying the whole wall. Makes life easier later in the job. Screens etc.
Could you have used a product like Schluter for the tile backer and forego the plywood?
That was awesome how you made you and big G in the toy truck, great bit of filming. Plus it was funny when Emily jumped when testing the taps near the end bless her. Thank you great video as normal 😊
Much easier to alter studs and mount valve to correct depth. face over with Jackoboard which comes in various thickness. Tile direct. Job done.
Yeah I'm just a diy'er and have seen most people do it this way. Mounting the valve on a 6x2 attached to the stud
Good Saturday morning to you sir and your family from Wellington Somerset

great video as always! At 18:48 when you put the spout on, how is that sealed?
Hi what brand are the taps you used thanks
Been watching and learning from your videos for years, thanks for taking the time👍👍👍
How many times have you had your stop valve shut off
How would you fit these in a dot and dab wall then ?
When we did my parents bathroom concealed shower, the handset thread was to short to go through tile, adhesive, backerboard and OSB. Since we had already tanked we had to cobble together an arbour backwards to cut out the OSB inside our boxing
Does your taps turn on going inwards or outwards?
I have the exact same taps that were going into a solid wall. That was fun...

Might be a dumb question but how would you know that there’s no leaks on the other side of the wall?
Stains on the sealing XD
Jointing compound and good soldered joint they recon 50year guaranteed
The dilemma of the bathroom fitter 🙄
Looking good James ... 👍👍👍👍 are you going to seal the floor where the two 22mm pipes come through the floor for the bath taps ..

Or from lead pipe 15mm copper

I fitted the exact same taps last month. The threads are too short. After a change of plan and a few choice words all was well and the taps look lovely. Annoying though
It's a shame most watching this video don't realise it. Going to do an explanation video in a few weeks.
Can you mount the tap to the front of the ply? That way you only have say 6mm hardibacker and 15mm for the tile and adhesive to negotiate
I’m honestly don’t remember now sorry. The one I was doing there was no way to mount other than the threads. If they’d had fixings to surface mount onto a ply pattress it would have been easy
Nice work sir. Proper job .
I didn’t think you could use the yellow tin hawk white on potable water systems
Why not hardie backer straight to studs, negating the pipe thread issue?
It's too thin and I cant be arsed to take it back! 😂
@@plumberparts fair nuff

I like to ply first so I always have a wood fixing wherever I need one. Means I don’t have to endlessly drill and plug! It’s my own gaff after all!😎

Will the lever valves turn off with bath in place?? Lol
Good video
Why use compression valves when you can use sweat valves
Hi great video as usual but why is the picture quality of your last few videos very poor not usual nice and crisp.....regards Graham
Yeah it’s a RUclips issue. Still uploading in 4k but YT takes ages to render it.
Could you do a tools tour
Good work sir
I suspect that the designer of the valve didn't think anyone would double up with ply and cement backer....
Hardie on its own (so not 6mm) and a tile with adhesive would still have been too deep. My point is from a manufacturer perspective why not just give us a few more threads!
Dont know if ive spelt this right, but whats "Hardy backer", forgive me iam new to this game.
Hardibacker brand name, is cement board. Rigid and can carry heavier weight tiles than plaster board.
Can be tiled directly on to.
Can also be used (as I have) as a liner for a fireplace as it is entirely noncombustible!
spot on fair play
Just use moisture board and tank wall
So you tanked the floor, then cut holes in it for pipes, have I missed something?
Oh, I was waiting for all the work to complete? The boards, the tile, everthing, everything...?
Thanks u✊
That type of jointing compound should not be used on potable water
Don't. Fit an electronic bath filler, fed via the overflow. Taps (mechanical valves) are 19th Century.
Don’t need the ply there just fix the cement boards to the stud wall
Boards are too thin for this. 6mm is flexxy! I also like to play the whole wall for reasons you'll see in the next few videos.
Do you think you’ll have it all finished before you retire 😂
Jezus wat a resolutie xD
Is this video super grainy for anyone else?
It’s just about ok here. I’m on RUclips creator support about it now!
Also select 1080p if you want it higher res...But there's deffo a glitch in RUclips land!
Don't need the ply on there man. Just put the hardies sheet on.
Yeah I could but....the hardi's only 6mm and I can't be arsed to take it back and change it....all good now anyway! 😁
Viega profipress !!
The ones I used were easier than them ones must show u
It would be funny if once you put the bath in you can’t isolate the lever valves 🤣
I was just searching the comments to see if someone had mentioned this already 😂
I thought exactly this.
Why would you not be able to operate the valves.
@@nw5835 once the bath is in place it will foul the levers, they will only be able to stay in a position in-line with the pipes.
Bath is in place (finally!) They work fine. It’s got a nice run off on the design so there’s loads of room.
