Great work mate and thank you for always being yourself. unlike some muppets on here what use super glue to join copper pipe have a great weekend JAMES
I enjoyed your video. From one Master Plumber like myself, to another capable Master Plumber from "Across The Pond". It's cool to see how you deal with the sames type of work I engage in weekly in Pittsburgh, Pa. I'm nearly 36 years on the job, and I'm feeling it a bit bro. I try to keep the mind sharp by being a plumbing instructor for two, 3 hours classes a week two semesters per year. (24 nights per semester) The one thing is for certain, every thinking man still learns something new each day. Some of the fittings you use over there aren't "approved" in the US. As I'm sure there's some vice-versa there. But you're still my Master Plumbing brutha from across the pond". Much respect to you sir. I have no doubt you are very helpful for all types of people over there. A man willing to show his trade to others via video forum has pride in his trade. Cheers, my friend. You have a new subscriber
@@jothain In The USA, You have to have to complete 576 hours of classroom time while proving on your tax form that you've been working these as an "Apprentice plumber" in your day job. Hence the required 576 hours needed to qualify.since they realize that you often work late on an emergency job, So there are excused absences for time spent working overtime with your boss, with the boss writing you a note you will receive time credit. After completing your 4 years of apprenticeship. You are then eligible to take the Journeyman's Test, Which is $125 US dollars, upon satisfactorily completing that, you have to be a "Journeymen Plumber" two full years, then you become eligible to take your Master's Test for 1 cost of $375. If you fail either test, you get no refund and must wait 6 months to re-take, and re pay for the exams. However, Once you've achieved your "Master Plumber's License", you are set for life, simply send in the $375 a year to keep it renewed. Most reputable plumbing companies will pay this for you
A lot of Pipe Fittings in Europe including the U.K. are now Metric, in the South of Ireland we do go down that old route the Imperial Measurements 1/2", 3/4" and 1" but sometimes use adapters to transfer over from Imperial to Metric, in Europe the standard would a minimum 'CE' European symbol denoting a standard of European Certification along with ISO standards and various other Eu certs , but in North America the likes of 'Watts" in domestic or even "UL' Underwriters Limited in both domestic and commercial applications do come in to play... British also would use what they call ,"British Kite Mark"...
Thank you so much for your videos. Money is a bit tight so with the help of your videos I’ve managed to plumb a sink with hidden cistern, plum a sink with vanity unit, and put shower panels onto wall, no into the shower waste. Thanks a lot!
I am a total novice (and I mean novice) but your video is so detailed and well explained that I’m now confident to fit one of these valves and I can’t thank you enough. Top Man..😊
Same here when I sweat a fitting together, soon as I smell the flux melting, hi a dad! Takes me back to bin 10-11yo and all the years after I worked with him, Cheers Jimmy
Great, took off my first radiator today with the help of your videos. Need to remove a kitchen sink for the flooring guy. Going to install a couple those valves to easily remove and put backnthe kitchen sink.
So glad you use jointing compound when fitting these compression fit valves! I always use a smear of LSX around the olive, just because it's saved me once or twice and never failed me once. I thought it was just me lacking confidence and being uneccessarily belt and braces!
I also always use jointing compound every time on compression olives. For the sake of a few seconds and a bit of a wipe over it pretty much guarantees a good joint. It’s certainly nowhere near as much faff as a leaky fitting..
Good video again James just one thing though...I was taught if fitting lever valves then have them so they turn up for water on and down for water off so can't be knocked on when should be off.
My nickname is Lever Valve boi because I love sticking lever valves everywhere! Once I made a domestic house look like a commercial building. BUT Guess what.. If there's a problem... You can lever valve it off!
Hi James thanks for the videos, I find them very informative. I do have one question you may be able to help with please. We are in a VERY hard water area and had to have a new tank element fitted, the amount of scale present was horrendous., So going to need something to try to limit the hard water. A Water softener can’t be installed, so looking at an electronic scale inhibitor. Is this what I need ( if so any recommendations), if not do you have any other ideas please? Thanks keep up the good work.👍
Did you ever replace those narrow windows? I have one like that and have never come up with a good idea on how to deal with it short of making it wider.
Question. if you turn off the water from the main supply stopcock in the property. do you need to power off your/combi/condenser boiler. boiler in question is a bosch worcester. tia
I saw you did not use a pen reamer to deburr the inside of the copper pipe. I usually lose a lot of time to make it smooth because in the college they thought me that it may cause turbolences. Should I not care about?
It isn't strictly necessary to deburr the pipe if you use the "pipe slice" type of pipe cutter featured in the video (with or without a ratchet). I've done loads of connections without deburring and never had issues.
@@gadgetman36 I always use a pipe slicer but I can see and feel the burr, you use a full bore valve but you resrict the pipe inner diameter of at least 2 mm in total. I use a pen reamer which is very sharp, much better than the plastic inside outside debur tool, it removes the burr in seconds.
Very sensible fitting proper valves, fit the daft ones with little plastic handles and you'll find the handles just twist off when you really need them.
Great information just thought I'd say though you're using the wrong jointing compound fernox hawk white yellow tin is for natural gas ,non potable water, steam and air. The blue tin is for potable WRAS approved BS EN 751-2 class A.
Quick question I have one of these in my house and I’m trying to increase the water flow/ pressure of my shower. By moving the valve fully open will it help me as right now it is facing the other direction of the pipe
Jimmy, can i ask for advice please. what isolation values do i use on 15mm grey poly-pipes under the bath? unfortunately i can turn off the cold/hot water feed! are there in-situ isolation valves i can use? thank you for your advice.

Do OX do a 15mm ratchet pipe cutter ? I've never seen them before,,.. can't see on your amazon store?
Yes. The OX-P449615 is currently unavailable on Amazon. You can find it in stock from other sellers in a Google Shopping search.
Don’t worry James, my wife went six years before I finished our downstairs loo. I’ve been told she’s getting someone in for the bathroom 🤣

Great video. Does it matter which way you fit the valve as to the direction of flow of water or does it not matter?
Thanks job I must tackle before winter sets in, I was considering a flexible pipe with built in shut off, hold tight!
My darling wife insists this is done before winter...she likes a bath!
Those levers valve they my favourite enjoyed the video
Good Saturday morning to you sir from Wellington Somerset
Hi, why do plumbers use grips and adjustables rather than correct size spanners ? .
Because there are so many different size nuts by the different manufacturers
If only life was that simple. Allegedly half inch but in reality a hundred different variants of the nut.

How do you decide when to use jointing compound on a compression fitting and when to use ptfe for a compression fitting?
Hi, will one of those long levers fit in place of the little plastic ones you get on the washing machine valves ? thanks.
Very sensible fitting proper valves, fit the daft ones with little plastic handles and you'll find the handles just twist off when you really need them.
I can’t find the jointing compound on your Amazon store? Which one do you use?
Could you fit a smart stop tap so you don’t have to keep going up there

Still asking what those electrical bits are over the cistern 🤔
Old shaving point. When I put the window cabinet up I'll hide it in there.
Shouldn’t the valves fall to off instead of on ?

My OCD is going nuts... why you ask... Because you have the tap upside down, (well the lettering) LOL
Excellent vid mate
You fitted them upside down.🤪
Why is it we never put things in are own house straight away 😂😂😂
I wish they'd position the flush button so you can flush away your number 2 whilst still seated.
Good video I always put lever valves falling closed and stager them pegler do ones that lock so know one can touch them
