Totally agree about how a simple mixer tap replacement can become a nightmare! Thankfully I’d got a plumber in and she had the knowledge and tools to sort it all - I’d still be fixing it now if it were down to me😂.
Now I can put a smoke machine and disco lights as a business expence!! Awesome.

I once had my head under the sink looking up at the tap connectors, the waste trap was off and a bit of water dripped straight into my mouth from the rank sink waste.
I held tight, but didn't die.

1. Food waste will run into the hose;
2. No Jubilee clip.

Those seized up nuts just under tap u can unseize with little bit of heat before start going mad with the wrench, even a cigarette lighter will do, no need for big boy toys ie propane torch etc

Isn’t it against reg to use a leaver valve for a mains shut off?

But Lever valves are not stop cocks.
If you use a lever valve you will need to install a backflow prevention valve downstream of the lever valve.
The idea is that if the mains are switched off, water from your property cannot enter the mains - potentially contaminating the mains water supply.
So I would say you can use one with an approved backflow prevention valve.
Feel your pain loosing your van for even a day..guarantee you will need the one thing that you haven’t needed for months on your first job..
