He went slightly wide on turn 5, but you don't have to take that apex and he did a small correction coming out of turn 7. Other than that it was perfect. If by a couple of apex you also mean turn 10 im not sure you have to take the apex in that turn.
I was also about to say that taking the apex at turn 10 is not essential but couldn't confirm. Its just the nature of the track that going wide from turn 10 doesn't matter.
Fernando is known to take slightly 'longish' lines into corners to get faster exits out of them.

How he managed to wring P7 out of that McLaren is nothing short of a miracle. Must've been the best lap of his career, not a single error! Compare that to Vandoorne, of whom the whole paddock agrees he's a top notch driver, who only managed P19, and the only conclusion is Alonso is still the best driver out there. By far. Respect!

He traces turns much better than Hamilton's pole: Turn 4, 5, before the final chicane and the final chicane opens much better to take.

this proves that Alonso is mclaren-honda biggest asset. if he keeps pulling this kind of feats and the honda engine can finish races, this guy personal struggle in the orange car can become the ultimate sponsor magnet.

PN I think so too. The nail in the coffin for an otherwise very well crafted car is the engine. Once Honda can work out the kinks in the engine, Top 10s will become very common for McLaren again

Never was a fan of Alonso, quite the opposite - I hate his always grumpy unsatisfied face, but gotta admit - this man knows how to squeeze speed from the shittiest car. And that's a talent. I doubt that someone else could do that.

Jeez.. just behind the 3 top teams, just insane to be above the whole of mid pack in that McLaren.. awesome lap, the car looks fairly balanced, if Honda can just sort out the power and reliability issues we could be seeing Alonso and Vandoorne fighting for a lot better results every race, just insane lap by Fernando!
