The bass player, Steve Harris, wrote this and writes nearly all the lyrics for Iron Maiden.
Maiden was Steve’s band. Great bassist & musician, probably underrated these days.

I got to see Steve Harris play in a small venue (500 people) with British Lion this month. He is a great guy, awesome musician and still got it.

Edit: By the way, "Iron Maiden" is actually a medieval torture device. Basically a coffin filled with spikes on the inside.
Fun fact - an iron maiden being a medieval torture device is a myth. It was actually invented in the 1800s when escape artists started becoming popular, and the medieval origin was made up to add some showmanship and interesting backstory to the device.

@@isaiahwelch8066 I always thought the same until I watched an episode of the UK tv show QI which delved into the history of the iron maiden. The inventor of the iron maiden came up with the whole medieval backstory and claimed it was based on earlier designs, but it was just showmanship on his part. However, the fake history became so popular that it's now widely believed by pretty much everyone (QI is a great series for busting facts that everyone believes are true. It blew my mind when they revealed that the Earth actually has more than one moon).

@thestranger5182 Tbh I've seen the number of moons we have be corrected and updated so many times that I'd lost count of the current number lol. In the past 20 years I've seen the official number change from one to thousands and then back again because they keep redefining what actually counts as a moon.

No, that was not The Beverly Hillbillies. It was a silent film called "Soldier Blue". Anyhoo, nothing but hits on that Maiden album. Still remember bringing it home. Can't believe it's been 40 years. Still love it.
I've been an Iron Maiden fan since the early 90s and they have NEVER released a bad album! They are the G.O.A.T of Heavy Metal and you get a story / lesson with almost every song.
Steve Harris ( Bass ) & Bruce Dickinson ( Lead vocals ) are the main song writers and never afraid to point out and reference historic tragedy!!
Always listen to them from the bassist's point of view. The '80s albums are my favorite, but yeah, every decade is stuffed with bangers.

I was buddies with the lads of Iron Maiden back in the very early 80s, drank with them in the Ruskin Arms and played football(soccer)with Stevie Harris for Melbourne FC.... and they were/are the most humble guys you could ever meet... top band,top guys.....you could gain a history degree by listening to their songs

I still have concert Tees from when i saw them in 1982 and a rare one from 1988 when Nikko (drummer) went on a tour by himself giving seminars. All of their LP's are great but its the first 2 that are the roots of metal

Definitely jealous I had the chance to see them a couple months ago but I only had the money to go to one concert and I decided to see Judas Priest instead. I wasn't disappointed it was a great show just wish I could have seen both, next time they come by though I assure you I will be there
@Collin sorry to hear you had to make that choice. I might be the complete opposite from you.... I do have tickets to see Judas Priest, but it comes with a huge catch.... they are supporting Ozzy on June 4th... and as we all know, Ozzy's health ain't the greatest right now. So I might see Maiden but miss Priest... unless Priest take Ozzy's tour slots... fingers crossed.

Iron Maiden was huge and then there was a period they got shit on mainly because some American bands talked trash about them. However, they just kept putting out great albums and regained their status as one of the best hard rock/metal bands ever!
For this album Bruce was still under contract to Sampson so technically he couldn't be credited with any 'writing' on the whole number of the beast album. Bruce has hinted many times without actually coming out and saying it, that he did write for the NOB album. Especially The Prisoner which has Bruce's lyrics all over it.

"Run To The Hills" was released in 1982 and was written by Steve Harris. To be honest, I don't think there's a Maiden song that doesn't tell a story. Pick absolutely any one of their huge back catalogue and see. Bruce wins for me every day, hands down. Did you know that he's also a professional pilot as well as being an Olympic lever fencer? He went to the same school in Sheffield as one of my best friends (but not at the same time).
Truly go through history and follow the people from the caucus mountains. Everywhere they went and established themselves, they built. Cities, civilizations, technology and then expanded. You can't truly say that about any other group other than Arabs whose genealogy is caucus mountains.

Just fyi, you can still say Indian. I'm part Tsagala/Cherokee. We don't really care what you call us, but since most can't pronounce our actual names, and since we were first named Indian, that is just fine and we prefer it.
Iron Maiden can really teach some history. The plight of the Indians in this song. Experiencing life of a civil war soldier in The Trooper. Alexander the Great, Flight of Icarus, Aces High, the list goes on.

What I look for in a great front man or front woman is a person who is able to harness and direct the band's energy and intensity through the entire set, someone who interacts with the audience, has the confidence, stage presence and charisma as well as having the voice. So, when I vote I will be judging on a live performance of the song that has been chosen.
Based on watching both Bruce and Phil on a Live Video performing Bruce had everything I look for in a front man. I do not listen to any of Iron Maiden's or Pantera music, so I am not biased either way.

Women are frontmen too. Bruce and the bass player, Steve Harris, are the main songwriters for Iron Maiden. The songs about satan and devils and all of that kinda stuff are usually based on Steve's nightmares, and I think the historic war based songs are mostly from Bruce.
You guys have to react the rime of the ancient mariner by them, it's an epic storytelling poem songs of all the time.
This was my official introduction to Iron Maiden back then,needless to say I became an instant and lifelong fan.
