Saw him in '86. I already was a fan of his "Holy Diver" and "Last in Line" Albums. He went on tour and announced how much money he was going to put in the stage set, effects, etc. They were not the most profitable band at the time but he didn't care they just wanted to rock out. They were great musicians with a great light show. Just awesome. The first time a saw a artist play the first half of one song and play half of another song then go back and finish the second half of the previous song.
And that is what you just watched.
    GENIUS.

On the studio album "The Last in Line" the last bit just before it fades, the line goes: "We're the Last in Line....We're the Last in Line" for 7 counts I believe and on the 8th count Dio says "We're the FIRST in LineeeeeeeOHHHohOOOOhhhh" as the song fades. So, eventually the Last in Line will be the First in Line by process of elimination??...🤔..😳.😨! 😎
PS I believe the guitarist in this performance is Vivian Campbell. Not really sure, though.....Entertaining as always, Gentlemen.

If this is 1986, then the lead guitarist is Craig Goldy....but he has also had, at various times: Future Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson.....I mean, who wouldn't want to play with DIO?!

In my opinion, Dio's "Last In Line" album was the absolute best of his work. Every song on that album is flawless. It includes songs such as Evil Eyes, One Night In The City, Eat Your Heart Out, and Egypt (The Chains Are On). That last song is one of Dio's best EVER.

Dio is Italian and his grandmother followed the superstitions from the old country. It's called a maloic (sp?). It's a protection against the evil eye or the way to give the evil eye back. You can actually see Sophia from the Golden Girls do it a couple times on the show. Dio did it to someone in the crowd and the crowd started doing it back.
That instrument is called a keytar. Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater plays one occasionally

Every new person in line is the last in line all the way until there's literally just the last in line. Back in my day, you didn't buy concert tickets online, you waited in line. You'd have to get there at 3am (if you wanted good tickets) and chances are there were already people in line. By the time the store that sold the tickets, there were a thousand others each at one point... the last in line, myself included.
The hand gesture: It's an old Italian sign called malocchio [the evil eye], to ward off evil. His grandma, when he was about five, used to walk down to town to give his grandpa lunch at the steel mill, and he'd see his grandma [doing] the sign - it was, like, warding off evil - and he didn't think about it; it was just part of his heritage. And then when he joined [BLACK] SABBATH, of course, Ozzy [Osbourne, original SABBATH singer] was doing the peace sign. And he didn't wanna do that. And then one day he just did it, and it just took off. And it was just something that Ronnie became popular for."
Of course it goes back even further and Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath claims he was doing it in '71, but for all intents and purposes, credit goes to Dio (or his family origin) because Ozzy fans were giving the Peace sign back to Ozzy, not the horns at the time before and when Dio sang with Sabbath.
So, if you ask me, if Dio does the sign upside down, around his back and inside-out, it's ok for you to do it too.

I just following you guys a little time, is very nice to see how much you change as you know Metal. This is Ronnie James Dio my friends, The Vocal God!! This is a pure juice from the good music.
Nothing against rap music, Particularly I really like 90's brazilian rap, like Sabotage, Racionais MC's etc... But with all do respect Metal is Metal!
About the symbol, his name is "Maloik", Dio bring this to Metal when he reminded that his grand mother use Maloik when she felt some bad energy came from some people or some where, to put this bad energy away from her, his grandmother used the symbol, and Dio put this in metal with a great insight! So, the idea is put the devil down not the oposity.
P.S.: As more you know metal more metalhead you are, there is no way back, welcome in our huge family /,,/
