I believe this movie is actually a "romantic drama" and not a "sci-fi" movie. The science fiction part of the movie is really just a backdrop for the story. Does anyone else agree?
It's hybrid genre which is pretty common. It does count as a science fiction film but also more than just that. Robinsonade is sometimes a bit of a genre itself which goes back to an actual survival story of a man who lived on an island alone for over four years that inspired Robinson Crusoe.
If it were time condemned to live the rest of my life on a space ship alone, I'm thinking there must be a machine shop, some tools, and parts stashed away on the ship. I'm building a go kart or a dirt bike and riding around for some fun.
