OnionSkin! I just uploaded my first ToonBoom animation. It's not much, but hey I never went to art or animation school and it was my first thing I ever did, but I couldn't have done it without your ToonBoom tutorials. Thanks!

@@OnionSkin Thanks! I know my project had mistakes and was amateurish, but it meant a lot to me that you watched it because it was my first completed one and my first time uploading an animation to youtube.
I've got no formal art or animation training, but I'll keep watching your videos, working on my animations and hopefully i'll get better at it!

That was fun to watch. I really enjoyed seeing your workflow. There were some great tips and insights such as your Two Point constraints over the entire body. That adds a lot of personality. I see your channel quickly becoming the authority on Toon Boom. Keep up the great work!!

See I think you should've made just the one arm and leg then duplicate the whole tree and put on the other side. Don't even need to invert the direction, just make everything pointed left.
Also, by your rules you didn't even need to make a character with arms, and depending on your definition of walk it could've been a snake.
    Also really fun video xD

Super cool video! I actually manage to learn a few things. xD
I have some experience, but I'm still new to toonboom. I'm having difficulty using symbol and library. In Flash (Animate) I used to make the entire project in the same file and separate the cut's by symbols. In toonboom I don't know how to import into libary without it repeating the same exposure time as when it was created.
It's like I'm doubling up every time I import.
I know its better create 1 file per cut, but i'm trying this workflow for small videos.

    • @OnionSkin
      @OnionSkin  4 года назад

Symbols serve a very different purpose in Harmony. Focus on the Template Library for storing assets and pegs to parenting.
For grouping things into scenes, yeah definitely don't use symbols for this. Having different files per cut is something you can get used to quickly because assets in the template library are universal so I encourage you to give it a crack that way.
I do understand and respect the frustration however and I currently have a video in the works for the Node Out series about some workarounds for making a homebrew scene manager in the program.

@@OnionSkin Thank you for reply bro!
I will definitely focus more on the library, study and practice.
In the past I was more attached to using my favorite software, but now I think I have a more open mind and see more as tools that can improve my workflow.
So thank you very much for the videos you made and share your knowledge.

Connecting all drawings to one composite then spreading them all out

    • @OnionSkin

      Ctrl/cmd + H to add a mutual composite.
There’s some buttons along the top of the node view toolbar that fan out nodes in different ways

dude i just realized, you dont have to draw more mouths for if the character is happy or sad. you can just draw mouths for one expression, add one of the bendy bones to the mouth and manipulate the mouth to look more happy or sad during the final animation process

This was quite interesting to me. What’s the reason for the two point constraint? As a noob if I wanted to do squash and stretch, I’d just select the master peg and squish him a bit like that. How does the two point constraint improve on this basic transform concept? Sorry for silly question. I often wondered why people say you should name your limbs ‘front’ ‘back’ etc. I now understand why they do it. Using arm_1 and arm_2 is harder to follow than f_arm and b_arm. So thank you for giving me clarity on that method choice! I hope you do one of these again as I quite enjoyed it! :)

    • @OnionSkin

No reason, squash and stretch works just as well in this context. I just think they’re fun

well you didn't do the 10 min limit you put on yourself, but you show how hard animation is if it was not obvious already. So you did perfectly fine, 10/10.
I'm thinking for an animation for the people "Two lovers going through a difficult time in their relationship." Good luck with this idea if you go with it.

I prefer this impromptu style better than the typical polished up versions. You mentioned that you naturally take long pauses in your speech then edit those out. Leaving those in preserves the necessary pauses that make everything more interesting. Life has a rhythm but the varying pauses are as important as the beat. Silence paves the way sound. Consider what a serpentine line has over a consistent line in terms of interest. Of course You are fine in your natural state.

    • @OnionSkin

This is some really solid feedback, thank you!
It comes from the peeve of searching for a tutorial I need and finding a video with a 3 minute intro that's very repetitive, fumbly and slow. I find myself skipping through the timeline trying to find the relevant bits that may only be 30 seconds long.
So I find myself trying to tighten tutorials as much as humanly possible out of a perpetual fear of wasting peoples time. But you're right, there should be time to at least breathe, lmao
