Onion Skin: *explains all the cool stuff you can do with Toon Boom Harmony in dept*
Me: *Doesn't even know how to create a new frame without making it a keyframe*
MEEEE
I use it the simple way.
Draw add frame and draw add frame.
Remember guys animating is fun.
Infinite possibilities!
100 CENTAGE / 100PERCENT I animated much more on the left end of the spectrum, aka frame by frame, would you say this toon boom is worth the price for animators such as myself? As opposed to other softwares like RoughAnimator or procreate 5? Thank you!
Chase Connors yes it’s worth it 👍
I have surfed RUclips a lot. Coutless tutorials about countless softwares.. I have never came across with such a simple to understand core basic tutorial in my life. Dude the way you explained the basics, you deserve an award for that..
Best compliment I’ve ever received ❤️
I needed this, thank you so much
I just started learning toon boom harmony and im having a blast
Vc aq??? : o
seems like your doing good ;) Keep doing what you are doing now!
Well explained! Definitely gonna pass this along to people when they ask me for help. It's a good way to explain at its core the fundamental differences between Harmony and programs like Flash when it comes to layers, drawings, and keyframes (which for me has always been the most laborious part of trying to explain what's analogous between Flash and TB).
I've been using TB since 2017 (your tutorials were incredibly helpful in getting me up to speed) and I knew a lot about what's going on under the hood, but this still pointed out some interesting aspects about what all's tied. E.g., I didn't know that duplicate with timing only would sync functions and keyframes for elements that were already defined.
Best tutorial for toon boom beginners!! Thank you so much for making the time and effort to make this
This is such a helpful and entertaining breakdown. I feel less intimidated to open Toonboom now and learn it's features.
I hope it's been going well since then!
This is such a great vid! Honestly I remember having a bit of a learning curve when I first switched from flash to harmony but I'm glad I stuck it through because once you get over that initial feeling it becomes such a powerful program! I remember I actually watched your flash to toon boom vids to get me used to it back when you were doing that series aha!
same
I am just switching over from Flash as well, I’ve almost completely permanent switched over but one thing I can’t seem to figure is toon booms version of Flash’s symbols. Would you happen to know anything about that?
@@housebased7 Ah! Yes that is big change from flash to toon boom/harmony.
While Harmony has a library of sorts as well it actually works quite differently than flash. The one in Harmony is shared across all your files and tends to mostly be used for reusing assets and importing templates and such for big productions.
Onion skin actually had a little video on it way back before Toon Boom's Harmony version came out but the theory of the library and it's use is still the same so it should help explain that a bit!
ruclips.net/video/lVZ7tAl_LLU/видео.html
The drawing subsitute feature with the sliders is something that is now a seperate feature from the library so you'll be using that more in the case of lip syncs and such!
Instead of flash's symbol system, Harmony uses something called "Pegs" which is essentially a much more usable and is a lot more flexible with how you use it. Depending if you're using Harmony Premium you can also manage those in the "node view" which is it's own other topic but if you're using Advanced or Essentials you don't have to worry about all that!
Hope that helps a little at least!
@@Makaruu Wow thanks, that was indeed very helpful
@@housebased7 no worries! Happy to help a fellow poor adobe flash soul move onto the salvation of toon boom aha
I don't think anything is ever gonna prevent harmony from being so confusing to understand aha, but this is definitely one of the best ways I've heard it broken down! Its made me understand much more than I did before, and thank you for explaining what happens below surface level, it really helped me get a grasp on how the programme works
This video: *is said to be user-friendly*
Me: *faints already*
Hello! I'd just like to drop in and say thanks for all the time and effort you put into this vid', the quality really does show through! And, the information you share with us here is exceedingly helpful, and the way you present it really does help to make some of these more complicated topics more digestible and comprehendible.
I found you through Animoot, and while that has come to an end, I am happy to see you continuing to share your insights here! If you ever wanted to make some short-form podcast-style videos again to save on time while still tossing us a spare tip or insight here or there, I will certainly be interested!
First tutorial with a great energy and learning so easy. The other person are soooo slow when they show something. With you, it's just perfect. Thank you for the video !
i'm currently learning toonboom and this video was a real treasure, thank you so much
Thanks so much for creating this amazing video! It is better than anything that Toon Boom has created. I have struggled with trying to understand the Toon Boom workflow but you have done an excellent job of breaking it down into understandable chunks. THANK YOU!!
I was sent here by Zendrin! Honestly this is the best tutorial I’ve seen in a while, I’ve studied toonboom for weeks now but this made everything click! Thank you man, instant sub
Great job, thank you very much. It's the best synthesis I've seen about toon boom Harmony.
Thank you so much this help me a lot, I already comfortable using toon boom for 1 year but this videos make things more clear
even though I had to end my harmony sub because school kept getting in the way of my animation I will still be here to watch all of your videos!
I AINT LEAVING YOU ANY TIME SOON!
How are you now?
@@mikafizz1022 im pretty good, thanks for asking! hbu?
Hectic rundown dude. Absolutely awesome and helpful! Thanks!!
Thank you for the amazing tutorials!
I now have a knot in my brain, I am sure of it. Thanks for the thorough introduction to Harmony, this is very helpful.
Thank you for your hard work and help
I've worked with Harmony for a while, but had no idea just how ming boggling it can be!
I love your dedcation to keeping things free and it is dply touching and appriciated, I sincerely thank you for helping all of us.
Just found your video. Your explanation about the fundamentals how things relate to another in Harmony is very excellent and clear. Thank you very much! This is what I've been looking for.
I am SO GLAD I found this after running into roadblocks with your usual "Just do this." from the other tutorials. Nothing like thinking..alright! Got this! and going off on your own and nothing you thought you learned works. This made so much sense... Also, I need to pause the video because
MIND. BLOWN!
I can't believe I had been suffering through Adobe animate/flash all this time. I can see why it's gone to the wayside in most productions.
WAIT, THIS IS THE BEST! I LOVE HOW YOU BREAK IT DOWN TO PIECES!!!
This was an incredibly useful video- thank you so much for sharing!!
im an animation student in university and this video helped so much omg
This is by far the best tutorial I have ever watched
Thank you so so much >< you really help summarize it again for me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is a real lifesaver, it´s amazing, thank you so much
Thankyou so much for this video! Long overdue!
its an excellent tutorial ive been studying harmony for the past year and you condensed like 90% of everything I investigated or learned into 20 minutes the way you showed things was clever and quick and visually interesting SUPER useful thank you!
the part where you explain what the black thingy does 10/10 that confused me for MONTHS i was stuck and you explained it so well
What a wonderful response! I’m so relieved I finally found a way to communicate all this information effectively. What is the black thingy you’re referring to though?
no idea why your channel is not getting traction it deserves
Thank you so much!
I'm gonna have to learn this over the course of a few days. Excited and scared :D
This vid helped me so much
Dude, great video! It's really going to help me learn!!
Damn this is a good video definitely gonna come back to this when I start using TB
This is such a fantastic into to Harmony! I wish they gave us something like this in my college course
I have been a "Animate" person but in just 2 days u have helped me quickly translate into Toon Boom. Well there is a relationship between the 2 but Toon Boom is awesome.
It's a tonne of info to process and old habits to 'unlearn' aye? I'm proud of you for being able to translate so quickly. I'm so glad this was able to help. I worry that the info in this is so densely packed it may make things more confusing rather than less, so this is somewhat a relief to hear. lol
thank god man i love you
I'm so SUPER LATE! but still,
Welcome back, Collins!!!
great. Thankyou
great videos, great info, and best of all they make me LAUGH! thanks!
Super informative. Thank you ^^
YOU ARE A GENIUS OMG THANKYOU SO SO MUCH
Really glad I have a history of using Ae or I would be so lost. Good vid!
thanks bajo
Toon boom is basically blender for 2d animation speaking as someone who learned Toon Boom years before Blender. Only, whereas Blender is free I had to sell my little brother to afford the full version of Toon Boom.
Brandon Burrows bruh lol
god bless this man
onion skin our lord and savior
Thanka you dude!
¡Great video! :D
Thank you Thank You THANK YOU!
"THEEEE" best harmony tutorial ever... Anyone...?!
this is the first thing that has actually made me fall asleep
no offenss tho its a great video im just not big brain enough
tysm
I love this video
THANK YOU
Coming from flash, this helped A LOT thank you.
I will have to refer to this a few more times but I like it. It will be hard getting flash outta my head.
this is fu*kn cool
Yay
more videos
Nice
Bro if you could make a new playlist where all the lessons from complete beginners to advance will be it would be really helpful for us... I'm feeling lost over here...
I don't get when people say they "dont like harmony but I like tvpaint, flash, or Adobe cc." Harmony is ALL of these things in one! By Just watching ONE tutorial I can animate on harmony! People also it's hard to navigate. Well I say to them: "Hey, um, theres this thing, you know, called RUclips! They have these things called TUTORIALS! Watch 'em!" Now I understand if you get mad with harmony for deleting your work the first time (that happened to me🤣) but every program dose that at least ONCE! (Ok flip clip did that to me like 4 times and I disowned it, lol!😅) What I'm trying to say is that harmony 17 is a good software. I love it! It saved animating for me! I was using krita before and SERIOUSLY almost stopped animating until i watched a youtuber animate with harmony and i was like "😯😄I need that!" Now I animate just fine with harmony! Like, best 2d animating software ever! Whoever made harmony was a genius! 😁
This is great if you've USED Toomboom, since as someone who is coming after hsing toomboom for awhile, this all makes sense lol
2:25 is this a Stanley parable reference or am I completely and utterly insane
hands up for the club penguin music
cant wait to expose my vector 9:58
better than the official tutorial..
My brain hurts
BASED SPIRIT TRACKS MUSIC
My brain hurts, but I WILL learn this
🤯
Thank you so much. I'm still very stupid but it's a step in the right direction.

Onion Skin: *puts 275 instead of 270*
I wish more introductory software tutorials were like this. You go over the conceptual core of the software and the specific tools that make them happen. I feel like I can jump in and explore on my own without getting lost.
I really appreciate how you explained the thought process. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Hi, can you help me? tell me whether it is possible to add more frames to the intervals, increasing their duration. At the same time shifting all frames and keeping their number?
very useful, thanks
Very, very helpful - thank you!
I'm a games animator and all I worry about are numbers and calculations and things
excuse me sir, i'm new to toon boom and i was wondering how can i select multiple frames in the software, it's had to just edit one frame to another over and over again, please help me. Thanks a million !!! qwp
Thank you for tutorial.. i'm from iran and i saw all of your tutorials and i have some suggestions for next tutorial that maybe is a Challenge for me and others..
first: what is the best way for create an animation with sevral diffrent background, is it better if every secenes create in seperate projects or create in One project? ( i'm thinking about One minute animation with 5 diffrent backgrounds and characters)
Second: my character is smoking a Cigarettes, how can i animate Cigarettes burning and smoke rising from it?
Third: How can we show the wind and storms with EFFECTS?
Thank you again because there is not any tutorials in Persian for toon boom harmony and i learned so many from you.
I've made a couple of my frames too big. Is there a way for me to resize multiple frames without selecting ALL of them?
BEST INADVERTENT FUNDAMENTALS OF ANIMATION TUTORIAL EVER! Liked and subbed. Good job.
Im trying to learn how to use this software for character animation i want to know how to make a simple rig like a turnaround or somthing
How did you extend it 12:12
I need a teacher for this ..i want to learn animation
in adobe flash it was possible to create a sequence with two frames for example and have this playing "infinitely" just as long as you want it be playing in the main time line. how do i do this in harmony?
Paste cycle will do what you’re after!
This is however the core difference between the two programs in my opinion.
The exposure/drawing substitution system is a lot like a graphic symbol how you can tell it to display any of the contained drawings at a time.
But auto infinite play isn’t how the program is designed. So although everything gets referenced like symbols do, the playback is manual. This is for reasons that make more sense the deeper you get into program
I will miss all this, God help us with COPPA.
This is the kind of video that I'll come back again and again for months while I learn this software
I never understood what is so scary about toonboom like flash would be equally complex if it wasn't because you probably learned that first
This is usually the case. If you make a living doing things a particular way a heavy shift can be intimidating
they still use adobe animate cc like it is macromedia flash 8
adobe has changed a lot recently, with puppet warp tool and layer parenting, wich makes it possible to not be dependant on symbol nesting
Since I’m new to Toon boom I thought keyframes were drawings, because I’m so used to adobe flash
what's the music piece that starts at 17:40 ? Great video btw!
I’m not understanding literally any of this
Same lmao
It is a lot to take in for a first-time viewer, myself included, but I know there's a lot of valuable information to unpack here.
yes it so much it too much make me not want to do animation...
@@teeteelovely Don't give up you jsut gotta find the right tutorial and interact with the program
Yeah... I use Flash/Animate and this is sounding super complicated.
This video is very good! :D
You made complex program thingies simple and understandable.
I just wanted to understand if I would like this program before even getting it, and this was a great video for that.
This program seems a bit more difficult to comprehend but very similar to Flash. In fact, it looks like what Flash could have been if Adobe would actually try to improve it a lot more than they currently do.
I really want to give it a try now
