Beginner here with a tip I learned the hard way: When using that tracing method, do be sure to try and keep your lines clean, or at least not super sketchy where the exact shapes are not entirely clear. Trying to make an inbetween of two super rough shapes makes it very hard to determine where to place the new lines, and creates a shape that changes throughout the frames
While sketching it out helps get the feel at times, do practice at sketching with longer lines than chicken scratching the whole thing with thick brush sizes

The secret is learning about timing and spacing. The space between the drawings defines if the character or object is moving slower or faster. The time it takes between one drawing and another will define how long the action lasts. There are free videos on YT talking about the 12 fundamentals of animation, and timing and spacing are among them. By knowing these basics you'll start to have an idea of how many drawings will be needed.
Keep practicing! Glad to know more people are taking up animation this quarantine, let's all have fun!

This was actually the very first question when I sat down to draw my first rough sketch for my very first animation.
I drew a pose 1 and then wanted to do keyframe sketch 2 where the person had moved quite a bit on the canvas and I was like:
"Wait... how in the world do animators prevent a person from unintended shifting in size or overall shape between far spaced out keys??? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
    Thx for that excellent video.
In case someone wants to use CSP: Use the "Light table" for inbetweening. You can turn/move/scale there w/o changing your actual frames just like he explained for other tools.
