Like most comments, surprised the two knock downs weren’t counted.
    I am a forever fan of Benny’s,
met him and his brother Arnold (who was inducted into The Karate HOF in 06) and am friends with his son Arnold jr. a black belt.
The whole family is immersed in Martial Arts and has for years maintained a respected training facility in the San Fernando valley.
His sister use to also train young practitioners at the facility.
Benny is one of the greatest to ever lace up the gloves 👏🏽

I'm a huge fan of Benny the Jet. Been a inspired by him as a martial artist for years after seeing him in Wheels on Meals so long ago. I'm bengie watching all of his stuff now: fights, interviews, seminars etc as I never saw everything. Knowing he was undefeated, I'm going back to watch all fights in order.....however, after this fight, I have two things to say: 1. Such a damn beast of a fight this was between two warriors and superior fighters, in different age brackets. This was literally a war, but one held with the highest respect by both, which in turn earns my respect. 2. This man Tagami, it was my first time seeing him, and just from this fight alone, he has my total respect, and I'm a full fledged supporter of him that will definitely be checking him out. His sportsmanship, great fighting ability and heart has won me over indefinitely. 3. This decision is honestly hard to watch....as much of a fan of Benny that I am, there's no way I can say he won this fight. I do understand him as him being the legend he is, it was completely in his favor with the odds. However, the Tagami honestly got the best of him with those THREE knock downs...sigh that's rough because my guy earned the hell out of that Victory, but it was not awarded to him. With all that being said, it's the past and it us what it is. Life goes on. This is one of the best Battles I've seen period and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of Benny's career. As I'm in film as well, 15 years in martial arts, s stunt Performer and just got into the live action Bourne Stuntacular show, I have every intention to meeting Benny one day. Gotta keep the hope and hard work alive! Absolutely amazing video 🙌🏿

"After winning five World Championships in four separate weight divisions, Benny The Jet retired in 1989, only to return to the ring in 1993 for one final professional match to seal his legendary status. At age 42, it was an incredible feat, defeating the 25-year-old reigning champion from Japan.
Just so you’re aware, this feat has never been seen before, or since to this day.
In fact, Benny The Jet remained undefeated for 27 years, becoming the longest reigning World Champion…EVER!"

He was a red belt, and I thought he was good. But I think it wasn't a good call and that was clearly a knockdown with Benny with that left hook against the ropes, but the referee didn't called it and benny new it was knocked down. The kid fought brilliantly to stay on his feet cause no doubt about it he was cobwebs in the last three rounds. But showing incredible tactics, Tegami, while clearly hurt wisely used the best defence is offence and courageously came forward while the champ was careful cause a wounded animal could be dangerous. And everyone on this fight.
I'll share the inside scope from my experience at this fight. Tagami vs Dad. . This was the last time my father, a living legend, and my hero . Master Benny Urquidez performe for his fans. A week before the fight in training my father broke his hand. But dad continued training until fight day. As the warrior he is , dad still was going to fight. Dad kept in silence . If the doctors knew this the fight would not have continued. It was an intense fight for everyone in the audience, especially our family. I walked out in the 8th round and started to cry as I knew my father was in pain.. As the warrior he is he fought the distance. After the fight Tagami, his family and our family went to dinner, broke bread, laughed and shared experiences, our way of life.
My father fought and performed for all his fans!
There will be more experiences I will share from my eyes. Love you all!!

The jet wouldn't of fought his last Retiring fight. I'm going to start a blog on my father, except they're going to be my stories. my father fought hard as nails like the warrior he is ,
My dad was so cool , after every fight he would take his opponents and their family and our family out to dinner after the fight and became life long friends!
I must say it's a great feeling knowing my dad is loved and Respected by his fans and opponents around the world!

I think that as a recognition of his career they gave Urquidez the victory, but honestly he was overcome, a lot of difference in speed and power of blows, it is because of age apparently!

Great fight. I thought Yoshihisa Tagami won, but these warriors both won

    • @netzoned
      @netzoned 5 лет назад

I like your post. You were humble enough to say you, "thought". Too many in here are declaring Tagami the winner, and it is obvious they do that because they have no clue how to score a fight, (according to a particular fight/rules). The main reason Urquidez won this fight is because of his complete leg dominance regarding the leg to leg aspect, but also his leg to upper body/head. Even in 9 when Urquidez went down, if you watch it again, Urquidez out scored Tagami. Tagami would have had to have a 2 point difference by all three judges in that round and it was not warranted. NOTE: I guess you know a fighter getting tired does not affect the score card. Yes, Urquidez vs Tagami, Urquidez got more worn in some of the fight. But also, the fighter that got the most hurt at a given time was Tagami.
Just a note: I watched this again. I have seen it multiple times through the years, including after it happened. But no, I was not there.

Back in the 80s i came to know about this great guy thru Black Belt magazine. Never saw him fight bcos i live a thousand miles away in Malaysia. No Utube. Nevertheless, as a teenager learning martial arts, The Jet's articles & news in BB magazine inspired me then. Now watching his bouts consoles me that i picked the right man as my "secret master". Thank you so much Sensei Benny....i too won in my home country, amateur bouts of coz.
