- The Dreamcast is long gone, but the games listed here live on as some of the most beloved games made. Aware that its time in the console business was almost over, Sega said to hell with it and went all-in on fascinating, weird experiments, from the delightful rhythm games like Space Channel 5 to strange curiosities like Seaman. We sought to create a snapshot of the Dreamcast's legacy, which encompassed everything from burgeoning online play to wild peripherals. With that, here are the 10 best Sega Dreamcast games of all time.

Yes. These 3 are on my top list. It’s like you read my mind. Shenmue was amazing. The graphics and music on crazy was next level. Code Veronica had such cool cut scenes.

The Sega Dreamcast, being partnered with Capcom, had SO MANY GOOD GAMES! RE Code Veronica, Power Stone, Cannon Spike, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Project Justice, Capcom vs SNK 2 AND SO MANY MORE! To me, it was a fantastic console
Man it is sad that dreamcast didnt continue just like sony and nintendo,i wish we had more consoles,its kinda boring with xbox and playstation,nintendo is doing its own thing so.

I like the inclusion of Grandia 2 and Power Stone 2 (which is on PSP). Great games that often get overlooked. But the omission of Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis and Shenmue, three definitive Dreamcast experiences, is unforgivable.
I would include resident evil code veronica, dead or alive 2. Although they were eventually ported, they started on dreamcast.

Shenmue was a game changer, and should’ve been in the top 10. Virtua Fighter and NFL 2K were amazing, too.
Shenmue is a piece of sheet. Skies of Arcadia is 10x better.
the fact both NFL and NBA 2K got left off when both of those game had more influnce on the videogame market than majority of the games listed is a shame, NBA 2K is a perrenial top selling game 20 years later, and NFL 2K forced EA to buy the rights to the NFL because they couldn't compete. Visual Concepts were so ahead of their time.
Favorite video game of all time. Ahead of it's time. I am enjoying 1, 2 and 3 on PS4. Still play the original on Dreamcast.

Armada was fantastic. Cannon Spike is pretty good too but not worth buying physical, that's for sure
The Dreamcast will always hold a special place in my heart. I am happy that so many games on this list were given new life on other consoles (mostly on the Gamecube) and can still be played today.
NBA2K2 was a masterpiece of a sports game for the time. Also played the hell out of GTA 2 and phantasy star online (offline though), what a great system it was.
Just walking by a kiosk where nba or nfl 2k1 was being demoed was mind blowing to see those graphics. That no longer happens now with everyone having photorealistic games now. Dreamcast was amazing!
2K games were revolutionary on Dreamcast
Well, some folks still play NBA 2K2 (and obviously PSO) online to this day on Dreamcast.

I got one in more recent years. I'm glad I did. I'm going to get one of those aftermarket controllers with a more contemporary design though. I hate the original Dreamcast controller.

Hooking up my DC to the internet with my 56k and within 3 mins playing against someone across the country in Nfl2k1 was one of my favorite gaming moments of all time. Loved the 2k sports games and fighting games.
I personally preferred Powerstone 1 over the sequel, but I still love them both nonetheless. This franchise needs to return

Im glad I still have my Dreamcast, even though its better to emulate it these days. There were so many great games! The creativity Sega had during the Dreamcast made for so many unique games! It was sad when we learned Sega was going to discontinue it, but it still held a place next to the PS2 for a long time, because it had so many great games that were fun with friends!

Finally, Grandia 2 gets some love in a top 10. That game has by far the best turned based battle system I've ever played. Even to this day. The timing/counter system adds so much depth to this classic turned based rpg

I'm surprised Resident Evil Code Veronica wasn't on this list. Another great Capcom fighter was Project Justice. I played the crap out of that game back in the day.

I have my Sega Dreamcast with a HDMI adapter that makes these games look amazing and the majority of my games are all fighting games like allot of fighting games
I have an HDMI adaptor as well. It really makes everything look good.
Get DCHDMI mod on your DC if you want to get the real quality of the Dreamcast. The adapters look worse than S-video
As much as I loved the console, the Sega Dreamcast is proof that a great concept and great games don't sell consoles compared to having a feature that people desperately wanted (remember that the PS2 was the most affordable full-featured DVD player on the market at the time).
These top 10 console videos are helping me fill out my EmuDeck library really well
I did receive this console as a gift from my mom in the early 2000s. And I remember my first game experience on it. So... IT WAS AMAZING!

I played Blue Stinger again not long ago. Its laughably bad. Code Veronica aged much better. Some Games should stay in the past.

Nice list, i would add Ready 2 Rumble, Soul Reaver, Virtua Tennis, Code Veronica & Shenmue amongst many others. Such a shame it was the last console we got from Sega, for now i will settle for the Mega Dive mini with hopes we get a Dreamcast mini sometime in the near future.

@@aceassn716 i can't speak to the quality of the titles on the saturn as i went for a PS1 after the Mega Drive, i believe it was a misfire for them, but the Dreamcast was a blast, still have mine & occasionally play it.
Back in 09 ScrewAttack had a Top 10 for Dreamcast games and their #1 choice was every capcom arcade game ported to the Dreamcast. I believe that till this day

Shenmue hasn’t aged well but I’m surprised it’s not on this list? It’s still in my top 5 best Dreamcast games ever. Agree with Soul Calibur being #1 though. Revolutionary fighting game and still pound for pound the best.

Propeller Arena is one of my all time favourites. Recommend playing it to anyone who hasn’t played this Dreamcast game unfortunately cancelled by 9-11.

The Dreamcast was such a great system. I loved that they placed Skies of Arcadia at #2. Still one of my all time favorite games. I was worried they were going to leave it off the list. Also, Cannon Spike deserves more love.
I prefer Power Stone 1. Spawn: In The Demon’s Hand is also a really fun game, despite the janky camera.

I completely agree, Imo to this day no other JRPG has come close to SOA.
Seaman was a launch game for the Dreamcast in Japan. I don't think at that point in 1999 Sega thought they'd already lost even though the hype surrounding the PlayStation 2 was already building.

A great console but Shenmue is missing from the list and imo stands as one of the greatest games ever made to date.
RE Code Veronica is also missing, imo those are best games on the console.

I mean it was so ahead of its time and is one of the most iconic games of that era so iconic we literally just got another sequel a couple years back. Also as far as code Veronica man I’d love to see a modern remake of that in the same style they used for the RE 2 and 3 remakes

Pretty good list, really bad capture footage, lol. I would replace Typing of the Dead w/ Resident Evil : Code Veronica personally but I get the gimmick appeal and uniqueness. Heck, this list could easily be a Top 20 and every single one would be bangers, so much good stuff on this console - but at least you mentioned JP Shmups so good on ya! Chaos Field FTW. Also, I loved Capcom vs SNK on the DC since no one's mentioned it.
I got mvc2 as 1 and soul caliber 2. Mbc2 is still a tournament game today
Power stone had a re-release compilation on the PSP back in the day, how I first played this game, its really fun
I still own my original Dreamcast along with my original games. There’s too many to list as my favorite or most memorable but if I had to pick a few-Zombies Revenge, Blue Stinger, Cannon Spike, Crazy Taxi, D2, Code Veronica, and ILLBleed to name a few. This was my first Sega console and it was awesome!

My favorite game is OUTTRIGGER, not just on dreamcast, but in general from all the other games. Yes, in singleplayer the game may seem boring and uninteresting, but the full potential of the game is revealed only in multiplayer. Oh those intense fights in a splitscreen for 4 players😍 its amazing!
