I don’t think I can have a bigger disagreement with you guys on halo than I do with these choices. Halo 2 has to be one of the most bland covers. Sure it’s cool, but it’s just chief. There’s no ring in the background. No marines fighting. There’s no real character to it. It reminds me of call of duty covers just as much as Spartan ops does. It doesn’t have that sci-fi to it. It’s just a soldier standing there in a generic pose.
I feel like something a lot of people forget is the CE cover art had a fancy effect that shimmered in the light. But regardless of that CE will always be my favourite cover art. It's a really nice design and sums up the while vibe the game had.
@@charliehicks4 This; I'm pretty sure in fact that this was a later thing on the Xbox version specifically. Mine certainly doesn't shimmer and it's a release day copy; the PC version's box was about the same. It was only later in store that I saw that (I'm not sure in fact if it was the Game of the Year version that started the shimmer)
I remember staring at these cover arts for minutes that seemed like hours just dreaming of how cool master chief is/was. It really captured my attention
The thing I love about reach's cover is the subtle covenant cruiser poking through the clouds, which I feel like if people just glanced at the cover they'd miss it
Halo 3 has kind of a nostalgic look with the sunset/dawn light. A beginning but an end as well. I just love it, it sums what H3 was so perfectly. The culmination of the saga but also bittersweet as nothing was as good after that. H2 was the bold sequel upping the stakes after the first 1. They both fit so much and both deserve s tier
The Halo 2 steelcase art is underrated. Bungie knew that you didn't even need to read the words "Halo" on the box art to know what game it is. A quick logo, the number 2, and that's it. So cool imo
I still remember my first exposure to Halo. I was in my garage and saw a box with a bunch of old OG Xbox games. They all looked fine, but there was one game that caught my eye. That game had a green Iron Man looking spaceman that was holding 2 guns in both his hands and there was a burning city in the background. From then on, I was a Halo fan.
I completely agree with the list. Halo 3: ODST and Reach are tied for my #1. However, while I thought Halo Wars 2 is S tier, that Atriox steel book closeup seemed like a C tier cover (B if you're pushing it). But really appreciate the list! Thanks for the attention to detail!
Big disagree on halo 3, the cover art perfectly conveyed the somber ending to his story. It wasn’t about being epic like halo 2, it was about finishing the fight
And to top it all off, ODST's appears to be at nighttime, while Reach's most likely happens on a new sunrise. In the meantime, CE's appears to be on a bright morning, while Halo 2's is possibly on a wartorn noon.
I love you guys but I had to pause after Halo 3 in A it’s just so beautiful. The background colors of the sky. The shading on my chief. It really made you feel like this was it for chief. I would’ve gone S with 2 but that’s me. Fun video so far now to finish
I am sad they ignored the backs because the Halo 2 stealbook's back is the best bar none. The monochrome aesthetic with the space elevator in the background, that pose with the BR staring up into the middle distance, it's just beautiful.
The Heroic Stances of Master Chief on Halo 3's and Halo 2's Cover perfectly capture the Enbodiment of how the Games are. Halo 2 looks dynamic action loaded and Savage. I can imagine Steve Vai playing Electric Guitar in the Background while the Master Chief stands there as the Dual-wielding Badass that he is, ready to scare some Grunts with a simple "Boo!" The Halo 3 covers shows the Chief in Motion like it's his "One Final Effort" to finish the fight and to find Cortana. His Battle-scarred Armor is a Symbol of his experience from fighting countless enemies and that he truly is "The last Spartan"!
You should do the backsides next! As a kid before I played new games I would always read the entire thing. It's weird but I can still appreciate them today. personally I think Halo 2's is really cool.
ODST, Halo 3, halo 2, reach, CE, and maybe the Arbiter halo wars art are my favorites! Good stuff! I love the colors on 2 and 3, and ODST is so atmospheric and clean! Fits the vibe perfectly with all the rain and the dark blue. So nice! 👍🏻
Halo Wars 2 absolutely deserves S tier, no doubt. The art style is so well crafted, and The Ark in the background still has an imposing presence, and the emphasis on Atriox combines to make a fantastic piece of cover art. I remember seeing it for the first time and flipping out over how incredible it looks.
The infinite cover should have been that final shot from the first trailer where Chief is holding his helmet in the foreground and the crumbling stone ring monument in the background. Maybe include signal smoke guy on there too.
That Cheif design isn't the one they used in game though, It's completely different, and most of the stuff in that trailer didn't make it into the final game.
Ur channel has done a really good job of keeping your content engaging and actually interesting despite the sort of increasing obscurity of the topics you’ve gone to in recent months, and I think it’s just because you guys show that you put a lot of work into these videos. Like it seemed like you guys spent a while discussing where each price of art fit on the list rather than just slap some pictures onto a tier list, makes it much more enjoyable
With the halo wars limited edition cover they created a steel cover that combines both the original art with the special edition art with the unsc army on one side and the covenant on the other side which is really cool and unique as it combines both cover designs and I think it should be s tier with its limited edition counter part
Nice top, but I would have preferred to see cover art a lot more instead of 3 seconds of cover and just gameplay. I don't know, the gameplay could have been running in the background while the cover art for the game in question could have been in front. This video is all about cover art after all :)
Should do a tier list for the back cover art 😂😂 But this has been the best halo video I’ve ever seen. I already had my tier list in my head beforehand, and it was pretty spot on with your list for the same reasons. IMO, ODST is the best one because (like you said) it fits the atmosphere of the game with an all new face and story. Love the videos, keep up the great work!
I actually agree with most of this list, I would have moved a couple of them but it wasn't anything too serious. The steel cover for halo 4 is one I would actually put much higher personally. While, yes, it wasn't as exciting, im a sucker for how "clean" it looked and I believe there is beauty in how simple it is. The forerunner texture combined with the unsc logo just does something for me in a way that I can't explain. I just think it catches my eye very well.
If I can make a recommendation if you do something like this again would be to show the art in discussion more and maybe blur out the gameplay slightly in the background. It helps to see what ya talking about as you're talking about it.
I enjoyed FRAG for about 6-8 months, it was definitely worth it. Plus they have a very active reddit community for new players and tier lists of which heroes are worth it

The Halo Wars steelbook has both covers (one on the front, one on the back). Both of them look even cooler on it imo. Also speaking of Halo Wars, why don't you guys try doing a Skirmish game using only Sentinels on Legendary?
Okay near the end of the video you said your basing the ranks on the front of the cover and not the back. Now I’m sure we all want a tier list of all the backs of the halo games as well
You should do a book, graphic novel and comic covers next. Part of my S-Tier list: Ghost of Onyx, Bad Blood, Hunters In The Dark, and Broken Circle. Those are the books I can just think off the top of my head.
when halo 4 came out we had an art project at school to draw an interesting object, so i decided to draw the halo 4 box as it was an excuse to draw something cool and halo orientated!
I think halo 3 and reach should be swaped. Halo 3 had a cool detail that if you look closely at it you see cortanas eyes and it matched up with one of the halo 3 trails the one where cortana says is the the way the world ends. Reach I felt like it it was more generic. Also 5 if you look the background has banshee that are the classic models not the models they use in halo 4 or 5
Although it might seem generic to have noble team looking all bad ass on the front cover, like the H3 cover it's all in the details. The armour variations and the body language of the Spartans is very strong. You can pick up a little bit of their personalities from the cover art alone. The contrast of the blueish gray with the orange is alot more intense than that of H3. Also I've a bone to pick. As badass as the chief looks on H2. I feel H2 is the most generic and nearly dated of the art covers. That pose was copied from DOOM, Duke nukem lara croft and definitely some movies posters and for me hasn't aged well. Yes he still looks "cool" but of all the cover art H2 is bar far the most generic.
Spartan Strike and Assault were games I didn't enjoy... But you didn't do their cover art justice at all. A lot of games tend to market by having their protagonist bold and center, having the weird protagonists on the side is more bold and allows for opportunities in the background adding some depth. They also have an interesting color palette, ESPECIALLY the second of the two games. It's cluttered, but interesting. And, for the same reason, I don't prefer Reach's. While the cover art is consistent with the narrative, it really doesn't say anything about the game its. The color palette is so muted and the poses of the characters are fairly bland. Yeah, I'd rate the game I dislike above the game I prefer.
I love the halo 2 cover art and it was pardoy by marvel comics with deadpool doing the pose with sub machine guns during the secret invasion story arc.
I like how Halo 3 Legendary Edition is just a number 3 and Halo MCC is just a Helmet with reused covers and are both B tier, while Halo 4's Legendary Editions art is a high res close up of Master Chief's helmet with a reflection of a planet is a C tier....
Out of courtesy, Halo CE should've been given an A tier. Its a solid cover art that gives you a rough idea of what all will happen, especially in the background. It should be the benchmark to beat.

halo 2 multiplayer map pack was the first thing I ever bought on eBay lol
halo 2 is definitely not my favorite halo game, but by god, that cover art just makes me say "hell yeah"
What about the Halo wars steel-book case?, the cover art looks sick with the unsc on one side and the covies on the other.
I know im late to this, but u should rate the main menus/intro’s of halo games as well
With the master chief collection they should have done it like reach like have it all as master chief but the armor he wore in each game so its like an evolution of him
