6:30 there's no elevator, the door closes if you go there first. That's why he turned around to pick up the warthog because where all the Jakcels were; that's the first place you should be heading to unlock the door, with the warthog you're able to do a slide jump through the door if you're fast enough, it let's you skip majority of the level, afterwards the drop skips all enemies but spawn more after you press the button so it's double the trouble, so we grenade jump back just to skip everything again and finish the level. :)

I know it's probably a bit much to ask, but if you're already going to the effort of reaching out the Halo runners for some info, maybe get one or two people in the community to proof read/watch the video before it's out, because there is always so much unnecessary stuff covered, mixed in with glossing over very important stuff and the occasional thing that is just plain wrong. I really appreciate the idea behind these vids, and they are far from terrible, but there is so much room for improvement. All of these have felt like they were really rushed. I'm not expecting an in depth breakdown of every single trick in the run, but having half the the video being "and then he walks through here" whilst completely skipping some really sick tricks is always disappointing to see. Even stuff like at the beginning of Truth And Reconciliation when he kills the marines, you say "we assume this is to skip more dialogue" but it's not, and it's something you could have just asked, and any runner would be happy to tell you why it's done. (I know this is nitpicky, but it happens 10 or so times in every one of these videos) I'm not trying to be mean or rude, I'm just trying to give some constructive feedback. I really hope that if you continue making these speedrun breakdowns that you take some extra time and effort to ensure the video doesn't contain misinformation and several minutes worth of pointless filler.
Yeah, I agree with this, felt more like an audio description of a speed run I have already watched rather than explaining the all important question, "Why?"... btw anyone know why the marines are killed? I assume on halo it's faster than killing the other side but later on is it just to get them out the way?
@@SilverFalcon Some of the marines have voicelines that get triggered at certain points, forcing you to wait before you can proceed. If you kill them, they won't waste your time.
@@SilverFalcon In the beginning of the level Halo, in the dropship area marines are killed so they won't talk between each dropship which not only makes the clears mch faster but also allows you to do something called DropSkip where, if you clear the 2nd and 3rd ship fast enough the 4th ship will not spawn and the 5th will spawn instead. Later in the level Halo marines are also killed because the mission is to save them... well you cannot save them if they're dead and so you failling the objective makes you proceed to the next area faster, on the third area however the marines are saved because you actually need to kill the covenant in one area for the level to trigger the ending pelican which takes you to TnR (Truth and Reconciliation). In TnR the very first Marines are all killed so that reinforcements will come early in the Gravity Lift fight, otherwhise they can be triggered after you killing all the enmies forcing you to wait for them to arrive in a pelican which wastes about 35 seconds. In the ending of TnR you also kill 2 marines so that they become aggro on you and that makes it so that Captain Keyes won't talk to cortana and it will end the level immediatly. Hope it helped.
i know this is an old post by you but its extremely accurate. Coming from watching TomatoAnus and his commentaries over world record speedruns, how indepth they are and even explaining the tricks along the way, this is a step down and its a shame because Halo speedruns are some of the most trick and glitch reliant things in the world, making for some really cool runs that are just not being covered as well as they could be
BTW you can double tap reload and quickly switch weapon. You'll be able to use your second weapon whilst the first reloads, it's called backpack reloading.
Weird how you point out weird things the runner does but then don't explain why it's important, like Assault on the control room you make a huge point to talk about him driving the warthog into the building but then dont mention how he's fast enough to go through the door thats supposed to close and lock saving a huge chunk of time, you did that in a couple sections tbh
Destin He’s done that in every one of these so far, I swear this guy loads up the world record speedrun video and just guesses what skips are important enough to point out. I have no idea why he thought saying “he makes sure to leave the cockpit without walking into any marines or walls to slow him down” was considered important while the door skip on The Silent Cartographer wasn’t important enough to talk about. Anyone who’s played that level should know that there was a huge skip there and if they haven’t seen it themselves, they would just be confused.
There were a bunch of flat out errors as well On halo "garish's run glitches so he kills all the marines" no that's how the run is done. It's required. On Sc he skips the warthog skip entirely and then says that falling is faster than waiting for the elevator. There is no elevator. None at all. It's faster than walking and fighting the entire level. On aotcr everything was fine. On 343 he failed to mention that the floor/wall clip slips the entire flood reveal and saves 1/3 the time it takes to do the level. On two betrayls the opening battle misses the despawn. The doors half open trick is bungled and then he says that the doors have to be closed to despawn, which is all incorrect. In keyes he states that the 2nd elite is killed to end the level early which is incorrect. In the maw he says "we take out the engines the normal way" which is incorrect because no "normal" player takes out two at a time. He fails to mention god barrels with the warthog as well and says that 360 swag is just for swag. I kind of want to ask them to pull this down and re do the audio
Garish goblin is an awesome speedrunner, he's been getting a few WR in a row. I remember when sub 1:10 didn't even seem very likely. Also, I have a Lasagna cooking as I'm making this comment.
The 360 tricks you do with the warthog going over the giant chasm in the end run actually have a purpose, so far as I know. When you get into a warthog, there seems to be some variable that's randomly chosen which determines whether the warthog's nose dips down when it goes over a cliff, or whether it stays level. If you can see that the warthog stays level going over ledges earlier in the final run, then you can go over the cliff with confidence. If the warthog is persistently nosing down, then your best bet is to do the 360 spin, because that keeps the warthog level and prevents you from splattering when you hit the ground.

3:57 You didn't mention that he uses the warthog to jump onto the ledge to the panel, and if you activate the bridge while there are enemies the unskippable cut scene won't play.
It's not because he does that jump that it skips the cutscene, that jump is just the fastest way to get to the bridge controls. The cutscene won't play if you have enemies agro'd, nothing to do with the jump.

Yeah, it's also inaccurate in a few places, and there's definitely a lack of understanding of how the tricks work, like showing the second half of the TB door trick but not the first half (to be fair, the Halo speedrun at this point is pretty damn complex). And the creator doesn't seem to grasp how massive some of the tricks are -- the bump on Keyes probably saves 5-10 minutes but it's just glossed over like a minor timesave. How does he end Truth and Reconciliation without having to go back to the hanger bay and un-dock the Covenant dropship?
When you do the hangar grenade jump to get up to the 3rd floor it messes the game up a little and causes the skip at the end. So not only do you save time on fighting up there you also save at the mission end too.
For a lasagna, he flew pretty good!
Great now I really want a lasagna and it's 12:30 at night
Me before this video: “yeah I can speed run Halo CE under 3 hours after all I did it for reach”
Me after this video: “no”
You really don't have to do these stats for the speedrun achievement. Just par time each level.
@@ChitinButtocks the only level where he might have to do speed run strats is on aotCR due to all the annoying elevators and such.
@@lukeskywalker1215 Two Betrayals is really long if you do zero speedrun strats, and it's worth learning the flood bump well enough to get a quick Keyes time just to give yourself some wiggle room.
You missed a point at the maw. The average player will destroy 1 engine at a time. But Garish actually opens 2 of them, so while 1 is closing and 1 is opening he manages to destroy them both. Thus saving time.
If that lasagna gets cold... The Autumn's reactors will warm them up in about 5 minutes, 6 on easy ;)
Wow, I remember Dustin Echoes. That was a long time ago
This is chief from out of the books minus the teleporting killing marines and phasing through walls
Halo CE speedrun: Lasagna%
I wish ud explain in further detail. Like why does the banshee grab on AotCR work? How he skips the last bit of TaR?
Definitely one of my favorite channels of all time ⏲️
