Just test drove the Ioniq 6, an SEL in Black with 20s
    1. Looks amazing in person! Much taller car than you expect. Plenty of space. (I'm 6' 4")
    2. Ergonomics are a bit of a mess. First car I've ever driven where the center vent can't blow A/C on your face. Hits me in the arm. A lot of controls hidden by the steering wheel. And the steering wheel is rock hard, a pet peeve of mine.
    3. The dealer had 2 cars, both black, and would only sell them for $10k over sticker. Firm.
They wanted $60k for the car. At least it looks the part....

Ultimate Red pops enough to draw one’s eye off the body seams to the mid-panels. I think the flat line tail light assembly that wraps around the side along with the upper wing help erase the droopy ass with the assist from the darker lower trim. Front quarter over looking the rear quarter panel profile exposes the sloping ass the most but in this color with a straight on profile it’s saved. Thanks for a driving review comparison to its siblings. The rear seat cushion looked better angled than some and the airplane rear tail fuselage on the rear door cards a nice touch. Give me this Ultimate Red with the Gray interior but like you I’d rather have a saddle or beige color. 15:34

If you understand the story behind the design, then it actually makes a tonne of sense.
Hodgepodge is exactly opposite of what this design is.
Everything about the design is rooted in the need for aerodynamic efficiency, making it by far the most efficient EV on the market in its price range and even well beyond its price range.

@@edsgarage001 fair call about the in person being better.
I also take your point about the form being driven by function. I can see that thinking and understand that approach. It’s more about - I think what designers might call “graphics” - that I think undermine it.
Something about the proportion of the lights at the front and the cut lines on the lights at the back. The black pencil moustache graphic at the front surely has nothing to do with aerodynamics, it’s just a graphical design choice…
Anyway. Maybe it’s like the Lexus designs where they brought in the spindle grille, years later it holds up but it was confronting at the time?
