The melon challenge is the most straightforward challenge but it is the rock on which the church of taskmaster was built. It showed first the polite way of doing a challenge in a tv program and then followed it up by absolute insanity - showing what would be the new normality in taskmaster world.
The man deserves a special award not just for creating this show but especially for his ability to be such a good sport about everything the contestants do to him and make him do. He is absolutely amazing and imo, the lynchpin of this show's greatness.
I have to thank you, Taskmaster, from the bottom of my heart. I’m starting my 7th time through the full episodes, and the joy the show brings me is immeasurable. Laughter is so important, and a huge percentage of the laughter in my life comes from this show.

You are absolutely right. Usually these moments are sprinkled throughout the season, but this whole episode was full of very memorable moments. I guess they needed to start out with a bang

i love how in this episode Greg says he has seen the matrix when Romesh asks him, but in series 7 when James Acaster is talking about the matrix Greg says he's never seen it. lmao
I come back to this Video from time to time just to see Romesh destroy the watermelon and then get slowly destroyed by it. It just gives me so much joy.
It's funny that Alex is thanking Greg, considering Alex Horne is the creator, producer, and his jazz band "The Horne Section" does most of the music for the show
@@mitchrudolph65 You're welcome
@@mitchrudolph65 Again, you're welcome, glad I could help. 👍
I do appreciate Josh thinking ahead about getting a knife. Frank cracking his melons like an egg against the table was great.
Knowing how Romesh goes about it, I love the smile he gives to Frank after he smashes the watermelon on the table edge to crack it open.
Josh Widdicombe has the facial expressions of every 5-year-old i've ever babysat. The man's made of sunshine and sprinkles!
I could cry! So happy this is available to the US now without VPN trickery
Is the UK version uncensored? If so I might look into some of this VPN trickery.
@@SundaraRamanR Yep, it's only ever censored on yoututbe
This show is available elsewhere without the need of a vpn if you know where to look ;) (Hint: Dm)
E L just tell us
Snaakie omggggg you are the best
Has there ever been a contestant to cause more chaos in a single episode than Tim Key in this one? Him playfully attacking Romesh in the tent was just the icing on his chaos cake
I don't think I've ever cried laughing before, but I certainly have now, thanks to Romesh & Tim's Watermelon technique.
Having discovered this show during quarantine, I've been binging for a few weeks. I am now early in season 6. I have thoroughly enjoyed this show, but in the spirit of "you never know what you've got until it is gone," I've come to learn that the deadpan and bitter attitude of Romesh in this season is beyond fabulous.
Greg has probably the best job ever on this show, and he seems to indeed enjoy it very much!
But... the things Alex has witnessed first-hand! 😂
@@ilonaknuutinen You mean the things that's been done to Alex lol. His ability to carry on with a straight face after every indignity he's been subjected to is absolutely amazing
@@nommyyt Yep, that too 😂
It is interesting to come back to first season after so long and see them figuring out the rules and how to tackle tasks and their rankings afterward
Whoever decided to upload these is a genius. RUclips is the land of reruns, the perfect platform for last year's episode
"Ok, I'll go third," has got to be some of the quickest wit on record.
"My eyes are circles"
Never heard of this show before and thought I'd give it a try, and seeing Romesh - without a millisecond of hesitation - just fucking smashing that melon into a million pieces on the floor has me in fucking tears
Greg was way more lenient here with cheaters but overall is surprising how fast they found their rhythm.
Rewatching this again and it's interesting how so many of the beautiful signature design elements were in place straight out of the gate, as well as the creative editing. It really was great right from the start and later fans can go back and enjoy earlier series. Taskmaster is a creative masterpiece! 💖💖
Ramesh's go at the watermelon is what pure savagery looks like.
I wonder if series 1 is just a goodie and the rest will be only clips. But if they'd upload all of them they have my eternal gratitude. Especially 4,5 &7 are my absolute favs!
Just a heads up, they're all up on dailymotion already, minus the unnecessary censorship.

Josh: I mean I don’t know how you do better than that
Greg: I’ll show you afterwards if you like
Josh: *bites lip*
lol
In the Champion of Champions he says Josh's mess in the kitchen made him wish he lived with Josh lol
I don‘t particularly like this show being censored. Nevertheless, the whole series on RUclips is something I hoped for for quite a long time now and I‘m glad I can watch it now everytime I want. I hope series 2-9 will follow soon. 😍
I'd say they will stop for a few months when they get to series 5
I really really appreciate it being censored. Now I feel like I can share it with my family
I wouldn't think you can watch it any time you want. I'd suggest watch it right away cos it will be taken down shortly.
Just a heads up, they're all up on dailymotion already, minus the unnecessary censorship.
I understand that they do this, but it would be nice if youtube could add a feature where you can decide for yourself.
The melon challenge is the most straightforward challenge but it is the rock on which the church of taskmaster was built. It showed first the polite way of doing a challenge in a tv program and then followed it up by absolute insanity - showing what would be the new normality in taskmaster world.
alex absolutely carries this show
The man deserves a special award not just for creating this show but especially for his ability to be such a good sport about everything the contestants do to him and make him do. He is absolutely amazing and imo, the lynchpin of this show's greatness.
@@nommyyt i absolutely agree, alex is a saint
@@nommyyt He is actually the writer and creator!
it's his baby- format creator, executive producer, task setter, writer, host, presenter
@@siramea composed the music too.
The delivery on the line "reindeer skull" is perfection
I have to thank you, Taskmaster, from the bottom of my heart. I’m starting my 7th time through the full episodes, and the joy the show brings me is immeasurable. Laughter is so important, and a huge percentage of the laughter in my life comes from this show.
Gotta love how at the beginning they all spend minutes explaining the objects they brought, until the last one just goes "A deer's skull" and wins first place within seconds.
Dude, during that bassline at 42:08 starting up was jamming as hell! Normally the horns cover it up too much, but its fantastic!!
Weirdly never used again either, or very rarely.
Discovering this show is probably the best thing to come from lockdown for a lot of Americans. Without it being on RUclips we wouldn’t have had access so I’ve always been so grateful you guys post everything here for the people! I found this show because it was suggested after watching WILTY one night right before lockdown happened. Now we have all the franchises and Junior and it’s just been amazing to be along for the ride 😂
I think it would be funny to go over to Frank Skinner's house see the snow globe and ask who's these kids in this picture and all Frank says is Ramesh Ranganathans kids
This is the first time re-watching this episode and I am amazed that it has everything that people love about Taskmaster!
Iconic moment - Romesh and Tim destroying a watermelon.
Cheating Controversy - emptying the tub.
And a bonus Tie breaker task at the end.
The best news is that it hasn't peaked too early!
You are absolutely right. Usually these moments are sprinkled throughout the season, but this whole episode was full of very memorable moments. I guess they needed to start out with a bang
I love seeing how far this madness has come from such humble origins. It’s really funny seeing Greg forcibly leaning into the Taskmaster persona, compared to how much more natural he’s become over time
The fact that Frank and Josh did the bathtub task in the exact same way, and then after in the studio the camera panned back, and they were both sitting in the exact same way. What.
I've seen this episode 20 times and even though I know Romesh is going to destroy that melon, I still laugh my ass off every time.
Exactly! I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it over the years but that moment brought tears to my eyes yet again today😂
Same. And seeing a clip of it will inspire me to rewatch the whole season, and inevitably it leads to rewatching every season.
This is the best show ever. Thank god for little Alex Horne. Bringing belly laughs to all of us.
Him just throwing that melon down then realizing how bad of an idea it was is the absolute most hilarious thing this show has done. I am crying tears of laughter every time I see it!
This episode is just so iconic. The moment that watermelon smashes onto the ground, it is sealed as Something Special.
The bit where Romesh throws the melon on the floor, and it just goes everywhere, will always be a gem in this season.
16 seasons later and I still think Rom and Tim eating melon is the best task ever
24:37 Plot hole! In series 7 Greg tells James Acaster that he never saw the matrix 🤔🤔
i just watched series 7 right before watching this one for the first time and i noticed that too! and he used it as an argument to give james less points, james was robbed!
The official Taskmaster podcast actually posed this question to Alex and he thought it's Greg not remembering that he's seen it
@@ym10up That makes it 1 less question for me to ponder at night in my bed, thank you!
@@devrajsood5525 haha, you're welcome 🤣
As of today, I'm going to go back, watch every episode of Taskmaster on RUclips so far, and I'm going to post the title drop of every episode so far.
Title Drop: "Melon Buffet" at 12:22
Romesh did exactly what I would have done with that watermelon
Wanted to say the same thing.
I love that there are no commercials so it just shows the door close and then it opens
I love Tim Key, I wonder how much he cheated through the series that they didn't catch. He seemed to try to do it a lot
Pretty sure thats why they brought him on as task consultant, to find the loopholes and "cheats"
I am convinced Tim Key has cheated at every single task
alex and greg are so much more excitable and giggly on the first episode compared to future ones. they likely got past the novelty and could hold themselves back better, but it's adorable honestly. love that we can see them obviously having so much fun!
Josh stumbling out of the tent in a half-zipped bunny onesie is one of the funniest thing in this episode
It's great coming back here from the newer seasons and seeing how much the show has progressed. Just makes me appreciate how much work goes into it even more!
Finished every episode of this show, and couldn’t bear life without my daily taskmaster fix. So series 1 episode 1 again it is!
Same!
This is the start of a legend tv show!!!! Thank you taskmaster..this is my 6 times rewatching all the series 1-17 already… still gives me so much joy..
Romesh's watermelon task kickstarted the show, and 12 seasons in...I'm stil grateful!
I started TM with season 6 and have watched religiously ever since. I am just now coming back and filling in the gaps. HANDS DOWN.....Romesh walking into the lab, grabbing that melon and yeeting it into the floor will forever remain one of my favorite moments of this series.
The Alex who made this playlist of all episodes saved me some time. Thank you sir! You're the best 💜💜
Genuinely I've just finished watching S11E10 and I'm starting over again... I can't get over this show... I love it so much!!
bro same
I didn’t care for Romesh when I first saw him on these panel shows but it didn’t take long for me to understand his appeal, and Judge Romesh is one of my all time favorite shows.
