Something that hadn't dawned on me until this rewatch, Nish is so willing to be the butt of a joke. On the basketball task when they showed the clip of him chipping it in, he started celebrating in the studio like Joe Wilkinson did when he threw the potato into the golf hole. The difference is, Nish did this KNOWING full well how badly he'd fucked it and just willingly committed to the bit so the punchline would be that much better. What a hero.
On the Taskmaster podcast, he said producers told him they'd "done some editing" on that task but that he'd like what they did. He knew he'd get exposed but said he wanted to experience glory for at least a second so he went with it while he could.
It’s not often little alex takes a dig at taskmaster. And even rarer that taskmaster would respond lightheartedly. Hmmm. He seems cheery. Perhaps this episode Alex could have got his stars...
One of the earlier season Greg opines how Alex created the show but hides behind him to make all the decisions. I think it's so he can be directly involved in the tasks.
Watching this again, I've realized the prize task is when we should have realized Sally's the crazy one of the group, when she brought in something that's not legally allowed to be played

Seeing Nish chip the basketball in one and then have all his other attempts be shown afterwards has just about the same energy as Joe Wilkinson tossing a potato into a hole.
She did mention in one of the later episodes that she was planning to melt them down. It was something of a throwaway moment and I'm not going to try to track it down, though.

If I wanted to use my own wax seals, I'd do it the modern (glue gun) way. Which, incidentally, if you haven't encountered glue-gun sealing wax - it's a really nice way to get into sealing wax (supposedly mail sorting machine resistant, although I have yet to test that) and relatively low fuss. It does tend to tie up a hot glue gun, though.
And for opposite reasons. One to make him feel uncomfortable due to her excitement, one to make him feel uncomfortable due to her skepticism of the situation.

Apparently, when Sally Phillips was on Smack the Pony, people at church used to say to her, "oh the things that the other writers make you say and do on that show!" She never let them know that she wrote most of the most outrageous material on that show. Watching this, that is entirely believable.

A little trivia for this episode: Alex Horne had a nosebleed in the middle of the studio recording which allowed Greg and the guests to have a fun chat with the audience while he got it taken care of, but delayed the next recording (they record two-a-day) quite a bit.
The Special Cuddle task is one of my favorites in the history of Taskmaster. Each of their cuddles were completely unique. Sally: Sociopathic Aisling: Disturbing sex robot Mark: Nervous romantic energy Nish: Traditional cuddle with a softer head rest Bob: Kidnapping victim
One small thing. I just really love how NIsh was looking at Sally when she was saying how special that cuddle was for her, almost eyes of terror like he just realised he was sitting next to a psychopath, and will be sitting next to her for the rest of the series 14:54
I love how he kept going despite being genuinely bad at it. Like, most of his attempts were not even close. Comparedd to Bob's 3 attempts, which were all genuinely close to the hoop.
I love the contrast between the innocent earlier seasons and the latest ones, you can see the tasks gradually evolve to resemble online Terms and Agreements.
There's a couple of reasons Tim Key (Series One contestant) is credited as a consultant on the later seasons, one is so Alex Horne could bounce ideas off him in the pub, the other is so Alex can ask "And how would you cheat at this task?"

From an American to an Englishman I must say, I have absolutely fallen in love with your show Alex. It reminds me of the glory days of Whose Line is it Anyways.

When you start watching this series and you see Bob Mortimer, you think “well, we got our unhinged contestant for the series “. Then Sally Phillips molest Alex Horne with a chocolate cake and I realize that the universe no longer makes any sense.
I thought that, too, but knowing how genuinely hard it is to tip one of those things over, they probably would have spent a lot of time trying to do that that would more than likely have been wasted.
The bromance between Mark and Nish in this series was great to see. They need to be in Buddy film together, a sort of latter-day "Trains, Plane, and Automobiles". Great chemistry, and genuinely endearing, the both of them.
While Nish's recording was not ideal, I have to say his laughter in the background and the way he curls into himself with mirth adds days to my lifespan.
It's amazing how hard (as much as I enjoy him) Noel Fielding tries for maniacal whimsy yet in the very first episode of the next season Aisling Bea, Sally Phillips and Bob Mortimer scream past him without trying.
Noel has a reputation for being wacky and whimsical and strange in that way, and he definitely is and can be - hell, he was a radioactive skeleton for most of the Season 4 tasks - but he's honestly such a teddy bear. The finale of Season 4 was amazing because by that point, everybody in the cast had clearly bonded and had an excellent time. Everybody won at least once, even Hugh and Lolly, who looked like they were the bottom-feeders from the start, and their reactions and celebrations were true "underdog story" moments. Mel, Noel, and Joe were over the moon for them. Seeing Noel and Mel hug and cuddle constantly throughout Season 4, plus all of them just sharing a good time by the end, meant that a heavy dose of the whimsicality and wackiness was pretty sidelined by how much fun, games, and love was going on in the room, especially with the message Lolly wrote next to her duck. Now, everybody in THIS cast was going for sheer psychopathy or at least severe mental illness off-the-bat and god is it just as delightful.

Funny that the series started with Nish bringing his laugh as an "excellent noise" because honestly he brought a level of joy to series 5 that was the highlight of it.

@@Brahlam There was one episode of taskmaster where the goal was to throw a potato into a golf-goal sized hole, without touching a circular mat surrounding said hole in the shortest time possible. The intended trick was that contestants can in fact get something else to move the mat so they could get closer to the hole, but one of the contestants just threw it and got it in on his first try. Unfortunately his soles barely touched the mat so he was disqualified, but otherwise it was one of the hypest moment of that season.
It's amazing to me that they take the time to record and super-edit brand new sequences for almost every task and for very nearly every pre and post commercial break bit! Incredible passion there!
Oh man, "No Handjobs" written on the cuddlebot. Further, why didn't anybody knock over the basketball hoop or at the very least lower it? Further further, some suggestive language from Alex when reading the final times... Sally slid it in Nish poked a pear (pair) in And finally, it's a good thing Bob won, or that operatic singing of the winner's name to the tune of the TaskMaster theme would have sounded pretty silly.
I had the same thought, but some of those bases are filled with a bunch of sand or water so they don't accidentally flip over. Would've been nice to see one of them try though.
I come back to this series the most I think (even though I also really love acaster's) because the comedic chemistry in this group is honestly next level. Bob and Sally are iconic and make my cheeks hurt from smiling so much
Every season has its moments, but this will forever be my favorite because of the amazing chemistry between all the contestants. They feed off each other so perfectly in the prize tasks and the live tasks and the teams are of course legendary. Just the perfect season.
Omg this might be my favorite episode so far. The cuddle one made me laugh soooooo much. So did the elegant one. And the fake one shot. Opera singing the theme at the end is a nice touch too! All in all, love everything about this ep!
I'm obviously biased, but between Aisling, Bob, and Sally this is the best ensemble so far. They are all so endearingly weird and fit this show so perfectly! I love Mark and Nish too, but it's hard not to get overshadowed by the other three.

When you start watching this series and you see Bob Mortimer, you think “well, we got our unhinged contestant for the series “. Then Sally Phillips molest Alex Horne with a chocolate cake and I realize that the universe no longer makes any sense.

"Give Alex a cuddle" was an unusual task, and then I found out Alex is actually the show's main writer, and this changes everything.
The bromance between Mark and Nish in this series was great to see. They need to be in Buddy film together, a sort of latter-day "Trains, Plane, and Automobiles". Great chemistry, and genuinely endearing, the both of them.
They just need to release a montage of all their moments together

While Nish's recording was not ideal, I have to say his laughter in the background and the way he curls into himself with mirth adds days to my lifespan.
It's amazing how hard (as much as I enjoy him) Noel Fielding tries for maniacal whimsy yet in the very first episode of the next season Aisling Bea, Sally Phillips and Bob Mortimer scream past him without trying.
Noel has a reputation for being wacky and whimsical and strange in that way, and he definitely is and can be - hell, he was a radioactive skeleton for most of the Season 4 tasks - but he's honestly such a teddy bear. The finale of Season 4 was amazing because by that point, everybody in the cast had clearly bonded and had an excellent time. Everybody won at least once, even Hugh and Lolly, who looked like they were the bottom-feeders from the start, and their reactions and celebrations were true "underdog story" moments. Mel, Noel, and Joe were over the moon for them.
Seeing Noel and Mel hug and cuddle constantly throughout Season 4, plus all of them just sharing a good time by the end, meant that a heavy dose of the whimsicality and wackiness was pretty sidelined by how much fun, games, and love was going on in the room, especially with the message Lolly wrote next to her duck.
Now, everybody in THIS cast was going for sheer psychopathy or at least severe mental illness off-the-bat and god is it just as delightful.
Everyone loves the comedians, but I think what makes the show is the absolutely brilliant editing and cinematography.

Omg nish in the live task had me in tears “i hate this program” and “i wish id gone to law school” killed me. Sometimes i find nish to be a bit over the top but i loved him here
This entire series' rapid reveal of Sally as a hyper-sexual psychopath is *chefs kiss*
Funny that the series started with Nish bringing his laugh as an "excellent noise" because honestly he brought a level of joy to series 5 that was the highlight of it.
I'm just thinking the camera crew on the day of filming Sally's cuddle task probably went home to their families like... "Hi honey how's work today?" ".... I don't even know how to describe what I saw today..."

@@Brahlam There was one episode of taskmaster where the goal was to throw a potato into a golf-goal sized hole, without touching a circular mat surrounding said hole in the shortest time possible. The intended trick was that contestants can in fact get something else to move the mat so they could get closer to the hole, but one of the contestants just threw it and got it in on his first try. Unfortunately his soles barely touched the mat so he was disqualified, but otherwise it was one of the hypest moment of that season.
I hope we get more and more of Aisling’s little victory dances as the series progresses

I come back to this series the most I think (even though I also really love acaster's) because the comedic chemistry in this group is honestly next level. Bob and Sally are iconic and make my cheeks hurt from smiling so much

this channel is making quarantine bearable
Every season has its moments, but this will forever be my favorite because of the amazing chemistry between all the contestants. They feed off each other so perfectly in the prize tasks and the live tasks and the teams are of course legendary. Just the perfect season.
Sally out here, stuffing chocolate cake into a man's clothes and watering his face, just living her best life.
Omg this might be my favorite episode so far. The cuddle one made me laugh soooooo much. So did the elegant one. And the fake one shot. Opera singing the theme at the end is a nice touch too! All in all, love everything about this ep!
That second cuddle session absolutely slayed me.

I'm obviously biased, but between Aisling, Bob, and Sally this is the best ensemble so far. They are all so endearingly weird and fit this show so perfectly! I love Mark and Nish too, but it's hard not to get overshadowed by the other three.
