I'm using the old Nexus 7 right now and I haven't really experienced the slow down he is talking about. I'll definitely be getting the new Nexus 7 tho. Btw great review, I have now subscribed.
who else flinched when the tablets fell over?
A year later, and this is still considered one of the best small tablets on the market, with many tech journalists even choosing it over the much more expensive Retina iPad Mini.
I'm not sure what the reviewer here was worried about in terms of it not holding up over time.
The Android tablet app ecosystem definitely improved a lot compared to last year. The New Nexus 7 will pave the way for more tablet optimized apps. The future is bright.
All the reasons you listed for wanting a tablet, are precisely what I would use it for. So for the price point, this is perfect.

I love that the two devices were being propped up by a Kindle. Reminds me that even the best quality reviews are held together by sticky tape behind the scenes. Awesome as always.

What's the clock widget you're using on the top of the main home screen? I just got mine and I like the look of that widget much better than the one that comes pre-installed.
This is just a question, hearing from other tech RUclips channels but how did you "REVIEW" a device that just receive? You must of had for at most 1 or 2 days. How long did was your review process?
Look at me, I brought the old nexus 7 6 months after it was launched and I plan to keep it for 2 years or more. Of Course, I can always pass it on to my younger brother who is apparently not as much technical as I am.

Why would you compare it to the ipad mini display? Wasn't the old nexus 7's screen better than the ipad mini?
He's actually right. The original nexus 7 was speedy at first, and then would get slower, and slower, and slower until it became extremely unresponsive. It had to do with how the nexus 7 handled internal storage. You're right too though. Devices do grow slower over time, regardless of build quality, or brand, or the amount of storage it has, but the nexus 7 had a specific issue that slowed it down.

Have they solved the super easily breakable screen problem? I have the old Nexus 7 and the screen broke from just being inside a bag, not bumped or dropped or anything. That happened after just one month, too.
Oh, it's been so long since I've seen it. I don't remember those scenes. Sounds like I should watch it again!

My nexus 7 is still working perfectly just installed android 4.3 yesterday and it even faster now and the battery life has improved I don't think I'm ready to upgrade quite yet. :-)

IPad Mini has a ridiculously low ppi so already the old Nexus 7 kills it with it's display, which is why I got the Nexus 7 originally instead of the iPad Mini. I could read and play stuff on the iPad Mini for two seconds, on the Nexus 7 my friend couldn't even tell the ppi apart from my iPad 4's screen.

The iPad Mini with retina display would have somewhere between 264 and 326 ppi, based on the fact that the iphone's have 326 and the ipads have 264. The Nexus 7 has a ppi of 323. The iPad Mini's Retina Display would most likely not be as good as the new Nexus 7 display.

I still have my original n7 and runs just as good when i bought it last year, and i do use it everyday, still im going to upgrade to this new nexus 7!

You realize that, in landscape orientation, you need some space to actually hold the device, right?
As much as I disliked the ratio of the bezels, when I began to watch alot of movies in landscape mode, those bezels became my best friend.

Things to consider: The Nexus 7 at 269.00 costs you far less money than upgrading your cell phone, it adds another , larger, device with 10 hour surfing capability, added versatility. This by just BEING conveniently AROUND. The 269.00 32 GB model does not require you have a cell phone plan/bill. Keep your cell phone, duh. I have a hotspot, so internet is no big deal.
The Nexus 7 screen size is massively bigger than a 5.5 inch cell phone, surface area. How much does a Samsung Note 3 cost ?

New Nexus 7 just got shipped should have it today.
My OG nexus 7 is running strong since last Oct. Any lag i had seems to have been bested bu updating to 4.3. Perhaps due to trim support.
According to PC World and Curry's, it will be available from the 13th September, for £199 and £239 for the 16 and 32GB models.
Have the first N7 already a year and it works as new...
So what you say about it must be with people that do not know how to use it or never maintained the tablet.

No. Megapixels determine the resolution of the images. The lenses, the formation of the lenses , and all of the other technical sensors within the camera unit determine the photo quality. I don't know why you'd attempt to answer somebody's inquiry without even understanding the subject.
Hopefully, just hopefully this model won't randomly shut off only to never boot up again like my last two Nexus 7s did. That was my biggest gripe. Two Nexus 7's DOA after several months of usage with no explanation.

My 2012 Nexus 7 got a seriously needed reboost with android 4.3. And my cousin's iPad 4 recently got the update to iOS 7. For the first time, I saw an android device experience less stutter than an iOS device.....

MysticalMastodon is right, Big tech companies and reviewers with a significantly large audience get products earlier than anybody else. Google wants people to know about their tablet before it comes out without them having to spend a ton of money on advertising. Of the almost 25K people who've seen this video, there are probably more than a few who didn't know this new tablet was coming out and are even willing to buy it now. Google only spent $230 plus shipping to get it to the Verge.
I got the old nexus 7 as a christmas present and the next christmas im gonna get this one!

I honestly don't see what ask these review sites are on about when they talk about the old Nexus 7 deteriorating in performance over time. I've had mine since December and performance in all areas has been exactly the same since then. I haven't seen the battery life go down at all, nor has operation of the tablet slowed any further.
Well, Android 4.3 has solved some of the lag issues I had with the Nexus 7 (2012)

OMFG!! Finally!! Someone gets me. The only reasons I'm not liking my Note 2 is because the scrolling is not animated properly.
I'm neither an apple fan boy nor android. The thing for me is : today I pay 229€ for a nexus or 509€ for an ipad 16 gb retina display. 2-3 years from now , I can still easily sell the ipad for 300-350€ while the nexus or any android tablet will give me headaches to sell, if I managed to sell it ...

I completely agree with the reviewer when I first got the Nexus 7 in November of 2012 I only had 7 hours of battery life now on android 4.2.2 I can barely ridge 5 hours battery life

That's what it is.. User dependent..I haven't rooted my Nexus 7 & i won't be..Its still kicking fast and with the update would be even faster & smoother, i saw one video, some one flashed the OTA update package by Google and got 4.3..and its smooth..really smooth..
People just load & just leave it.

Nexus 7 2012 variant is what I meant. Tegra 3 is no where near as powerful as the a6, thus it is runs less smooth. The Galaxy Nexus, running a dual core 1.2 ghz processor, compared to the A6 processor found in the iPhone 5, run comparatively smoothly, despite the galaxy nexus being much older. I didn't miss your point. Comparable hardware would be the iPhone 4s and galaxy nexus, and both I find to be equally smooth, maybe even leaning towards the galaxy nexus.
I think with iOS 7 it will be very jerky, it may be worth to wait and see what the new one will be like. If you want to buy now, a Nexus 7 2013 will be the greater choice, it has a far nicer screen for magazines and games compared to the current iPad Mini.
My recommendation is always to go to the shop and try them, make sure they are always running the latest version of software though; I hope this helped.
Arguably. Best android tablet for sure. Smoother and sharper than even the nexus 10, and no other tablet has the same value as this one does.
