This is my perfect dream. Waking up to this audience and the music in the morning. Not having to hear something so lovely at sunset.
Barber was a great melodist and orchestrator, and this overture is a delight. The performance and venue are great!
What a venue! A really fine Barber work played brilliantly by this terrific orchestra......one of Europe's finest.
This work is all the more remarkable being not only Barber's first composition for full orchestra, but written while a student at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia (1931).
In addition to a perfect and idiomatic execution by the musicians, special mention goes to the audio engineers for their outstanding accomplishment in an outdoor venue.
Yes! Audio was utterly fantastic !
great point, a piece that contains a very broad range no less, kudos to the sound engineers that pulled this off!
Do not forget Barber's Violin concerto opus 14 ! a terrific piece ! also filled with poetry, magic and brio
I sometimes think this piece is a bit of a mess. But the most glorious mess I've ever heard!
I sure like the audio engineering.
I will never not adore that English horn solo 🥺
Love it. So nice out door performance and near the peaceful water.
Exquisite English horn solos! Bravo!
Citizens' Water Music in the modern times. Thanks for the broadcast!
I wonder how many in the crowd heard this music for the first time. So great!
Barber did such an ALMOST PERFECT job in composing this that I have yet to see any orchestra get it wrong in their playing of it. Just marvelous music.
They almost ALWAYS get it wrong. In fact, before I saw this comment, I was just thinking that of all the pieces that I have ever heard, this is the one that is most easily "blanded" by poor performances.
@@anthonyat2401 Yes I agree. My community orchestra is working on this one right now and it is a difficult piece!
@@valeriechereskin : ) thanks for your comment Valerie. It's certainly difficult technically in parts. Good luck; it's a wonderful work - I always think of it together with Vaughan Williams piece The Overture to the Wasps, due to the structure of having a boisterous fun theme and a beautiful repeated slow theme. Thomas Schippers version seems about the best.
@@anthonyat2401 it’s not that it’s “blanded.” It’s just wrong. Thomas Schippers gets it right.
@@MattWeisherComposer Yep, definitely. ; )
We played this when we were in high school and I had played English horn. Absolutely love this piece ❤
I’m lucky to have played this piece :)
Great piece, for one so young. Some of it reminds me of Bernstein, particularly the slow theme
This , sonata #1, and the violin conterto are his best....
Bürgerliche Wassermusik im modernen Zeitalter. Danke für die Sendung!
No outdoor concert now QQ

Good recording! Listen for 3 Blind Mice motif. hahaha Sense of humour.
Andrés Orozco-Estrada, is young and eager to take the music world by storm, but he really should have waited for the audience applause to stop before he began the overture.
tedwilks I kind of liked that he plunged right in there. Exciting. Different.
I saw John Eliot Gardiner do almost exactly the same thing when he conducted Messiah at San Francisco in 1981. Ran out onstage, jumped on the podium and gave the downbeat. Quite exhilarating, actually.

I can't stand that sound that these videos make at the beginning. They clash with the piece....
The saxophonist looks like dieter bohlen
Moral Dilemma it's a bass clarinet haha
I know that this is before Covid and times have changed. However, I'd suggest to ditch the tuxedos and formal dress of the orchestra. Comfortable clothing in the increasing heat of summers is more practicable.
Distracting camera direction to amuse those who aren't that interested in music anyway.
sham the Germans never put on the whole opera 🇩🇪
I hate the way he conducts
ben vacha Ha, ha. I love it. To each, his own.
The orchestra doesn't seem to mind.
