    I just realized another aspect of your videos that I enjoy.. you're a Yankee accent and the way in which you phrase things! Here in North Carolina we say katty corner as opposed to kitty corner and hearth (harth) as opposed to "herth". Thanks for the vid.

      Hahha I love when people point out the accent differences lol its great! Thanks for tuning in John!

    Jay, that is a great little stove. I considered Jotul when I bought my stove in the early 1990's. If you haven't already installed it, consider cleaning up the rust with a wire wheel and painting it. That stove will last forever. I used Bluestone and brick under my stove and everyone loves the look, but it's in my Livingroom not in a saw shed. Lots of options. Getting it up higher is a great idea. Looking forward to the follow up!

      Hey Bob! Thanks for tuning in! I am happy to keep working at it and get this set up! Its a slow process and Ive never done it haha but we are learning as we go haha! I got two cement boards today and some brick so we will build a functional hearth pad for this to sit on! Nothing fancy but it will lift the stove about 4 more inches! Shouldnt have any issues with that material underneath it!

    Hi Jay, we are heating our 4000 sq ft farmhouse in the uk with a Jotul F 600, apart from when it’s very cold like now we don’t have to have oil heating on, it’s the most efficient stove for large space. Obviously made in Norway where they know a bit about winter and using wood to heat.
    Be careful in the shop put plenty of heat shields around it and watch any vapour’s from the saws etc, I’m sure when you get it going you won’t be cold! not had experience with a f100 but if it’s anything like it’s big brother you’re going to be warm.

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  Год назад

      Hey Jim! I trust the Norwegians for proper wood heat for sure! I plan on relocating the saws and moving the wood bench! Im just doing the ground layout and setup first before I move the wall stuff! The F600 sounds like a nice stove, hopefully the little brother here does well!

    Nice stove Jay. I would cover the floor with 3x5 ft cement board at least 3ft out fm stove face to protect wood floor hazard. Maybe you could use on walls also spaced 1 inch off car siding. I bet you could shrink clearances with cement board or corrugated steel roofing. 3 :40 inch tall pieces. One and half pieces per wall spaced 1 inch off car siding. Should work fine for you. Enjoy the heat and man cave.👍

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  Год назад

      Hey Jimbo! Thats indeed what I plan on doing for a hearth is the cement board and prob some pavers on top to lift the whole stove about 5" off the wood which will make it a tad easier to load and clean! The clearances for the chimney should be fine as I am going vertical not out the back like its set up now for. Ill do single wall black pipe inside to a 45 degree and have the double wall chimney out back extending 3' above roof line. ( Hopefully) :)

    • @jimbo5056
      @jimbo5056 Год назад

      I was able to cut the wall clearances with steel. You would probably get away with covering up the wall about the height of your shelf. Had 2 months of harvest and just got done last Friday. Going with wood burner in my 26 x 32 man cave shortly instead of propane. Can't wait!!!

    1st off. You pronounced it right at the end of the of your video. 2nd I've been around wood stoves all my life. Don't hold me to it. I think you are right in what you showed is the air intake. If you look in the fire box dead center in front of the stove there should be an opening to let air in. The lever that you pointed out is to adjust the air in take to the stove.
    The other is to give you an idea. The stove I have is vermont castings defiant. It's the biggest stove that vermont castings makes. It is able to heat and believe up 3500 square feet.
    Even though the house I live in is around 1500 to 2000 square feet. It dose get drafty at times in January and February. That's why I went with a stove that size.
