I just realized another aspect of your videos that I enjoy.. you're a Yankee accent and the way in which you phrase things! Here in North Carolina we say katty corner as opposed to kitty corner and hearth (harth) as opposed to "herth". Thanks for the vid.
Hahha I love when people point out the accent differences lol its great! Thanks for tuning in John!
Jay, that is a great little stove. I considered Jotul when I bought my stove in the early 1990's. If you haven't already installed it, consider cleaning up the rust with a wire wheel and painting it. That stove will last forever. I used Bluestone and brick under my stove and everyone loves the look, but it's in my Livingroom not in a saw shed. Lots of options. Getting it up higher is a great idea. Looking forward to the follow up!
Hey Bob! Thanks for tuning in! I am happy to keep working at it and get this set up! Its a slow process and Ive never done it haha but we are learning as we go haha! I got two cement boards today and some brick so we will build a functional hearth pad for this to sit on! Nothing fancy but it will lift the stove about 4 more inches! Shouldnt have any issues with that material underneath it!
You will love the wood stove! Great addition to the shop.
I think so too!!
The wood stove is gonna be a great addition to the wood shop!!
I cant wait!
Great video buddy!! You'll definitely love it! There's nothing better then watching your fire and actually feeling that heat
Most definitely!! Prob sweat my rear off LOL
I love your videos. There always positive . The wood stove is a addition to your shop.
I try to be positive indeed! The stove will be nice!
Looks like the perfect size man! Can’t wait to see this running!
Fingers crossed!!
That will definitely heat up the saw shed. I would have to say the bottom is the air intake and then the damper on top. There's nothing like true wood heat on the inside. Stay safe my friend
Indeed my friend! This is WAY to much stove for this square footage but its not insulated so I think either way we will be toasty! Id love to be inside here dead winter and it be like a comfy 65 degrees haha
Jay this is a great addition to the shop. The comfort of a woodstove and the warmth will be great!! Also the bottom id make the same guess that you did with that being an intake of some sort. Cant wait on the next one!!!
Hey Will! it is a intake for sure now that I have a manual haha Its going to be nice! I got two boards of cement board today so now we can build a hearth for it to sit on!
@@HomesteadJay thats gonna be so nice!!!
Hi Jay, we are heating our 4000 sq ft farmhouse in the uk with a Jotul F 600, apart from when it’s very cold like now we don’t have to have oil heating on, it’s the most efficient stove for large space. Obviously made in Norway where they know a bit about winter and using wood to heat.
Be careful in the shop put plenty of heat shields around it and watch any vapour’s from the saws etc, I’m sure when you get it going you won’t be cold! not had experience with a f100 but if it’s anything like it’s big brother you’re going to be warm.
Hey Jim! I trust the Norwegians for proper wood heat for sure! I plan on relocating the saws and moving the wood bench! Im just doing the ground layout and setup first before I move the wall stuff! The F600 sounds like a nice stove, hopefully the little brother here does well!
@@HomesteadJay I’m sure it will, will watch with interest as you bring it to life!
Very Nice Shed ( It was a long time since you see the inside !!! ) ( Jutol very popular up here ) I can't wait to see your next video Cheers 🍻🍻
Yes ive heard they are popular overseas and up north! Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned for more!
Three main parts of a woodstove are, Lifter, Leg and Poker!!!!
Haha love it!
Nice little stove should work great in your little shop
I think so too!
Stove going be nice, I put a electric heater in my work shop this spring. And I turn it on before I want to work in there
If I know I have a few projects to do ill go out and get a fire going and then go back in. Im assuming shouldnt take long since its a 8000btu stove in a 12x14 shed haha
You will love that! I’m pretty sure you do not want to insulate your shop or you will feel like a roasting turkey 🤣 I’m no expert on the stove so I will let your stove shop answer your questions! I can’t wait to see her in action!👍🏻👍🏻-TOA
I agree indeed! This stove is rated for houses lol so I think well be ok hahah! If I was going to do any insulation style work id finish the shiplap on the ceiling but as you said I dont want to be 100 degrees in there haha!
Nice stove Jay. I would cover the floor with 3x5 ft cement board at least 3ft out fm stove face to protect wood floor hazard. Maybe you could use on walls also spaced 1 inch off car siding. I bet you could shrink clearances with cement board or corrugated steel roofing. 3 :40 inch tall pieces. One and half pieces per wall spaced 1 inch off car siding. Should work fine for you. Enjoy the heat and man cave.👍
Hey Jimbo! Thats indeed what I plan on doing for a hearth is the cement board and prob some pavers on top to lift the whole stove about 5" off the wood which will make it a tad easier to load and clean! The clearances for the chimney should be fine as I am going vertical not out the back like its set up now for. Ill do single wall black pipe inside to a 45 degree and have the double wall chimney out back extending 3' above roof line. ( Hopefully) :)
I was able to cut the wall clearances with steel. You would probably get away with covering up the wall about the height of your shelf. Had 2 months of harvest and just got done last Friday. Going with wood burner in my 26 x 32 man cave shortly instead of propane. Can't wait!!!
1st off. You pronounced it right at the end of the of your video. 2nd I've been around wood stoves all my life. Don't hold me to it. I think you are right in what you showed is the air intake. If you look in the fire box dead center in front of the stove there should be an opening to let air in. The lever that you pointed out is to adjust the air in take to the stove.
The other is to give you an idea. The stove I have is vermont castings defiant. It's the biggest stove that vermont castings makes. It is able to heat and believe up 3500 square feet.
Even though the house I live in is around 1500 to 2000 square feet. It dose get drafty at times in January and February. That's why I went with a stove that size.
Yes indeed you are correct! This will be more than enough for this small shed! I hope this heats it warm and toasty! We plan on expanding the shed next year so we have more work room!
Hey Jay, I'm loving the wood stove in the shop! I would live to have a similar setup some day. Take care-Tony
Go for it!!
And I do❤
That's a cool little wood stove. I'm sure it will cook you out of the shed with or without insulation haha
You got that right! Well see if we sweat or not hahah
Jay, you are truly a great guy and humble as well. I truly appreciate your positive videos and honesty. I feel like I am speaking for a bunch of us when I say we appreciate your great positive videos and like you we want to offer a hand, it is how the firewood community is. I watch a couple other channels and the firewood community is full of great people who like to help others out rather it is advice or offering some parts, etc. Awesome to be in a great community of people who help out in many forms. Keep the great videos coming Jay and I can not a]wait to see the progress on this project. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey there! I appreciate the heart felt comment. I do love the community indeed as well and thats the main goal of starting the channel was getting in and supporting the firewood community as well! God Bless my friend! See you on the next one!
Awesome Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
You should make your shed bigger
I plan on it! Keeping same width and pitch but blowing out the back wall ( saw wall ) maybe another 10ft would be sweet!
Love my woodstove!!! Great video
Oh yes brother!
I bought a woodstove for my shop 2.5 years ago too and still haven't got it installed!
Get that thing going!!!!
I don’t know much about wood stoves except that they put out a lot of heat.
Indeed!
Love it 🤘🏻☀️🔥
Thank you! I do too!
Oh well..
Sheet metal cheapest way or blue stone under it , I put metal roofing behind mine in my barn ,
I was thinking a layer of cement board then layer of pavers. Would raise the stove 4 inches up and should give good protection. The manual said the 6" legs with the under heat shield doesnt require a ton of hearth just something simple.
@@HomesteadJay the stove has a built in damper so don’t need a flew just run pipe and put a cap and boom , your heating that postage stamp lol
Ok good to know so no chimey damp. Whats the underneath part for?
That stove will chase you right out of that shed!… happy roasting 😂😂😂
@@HomesteadJay is there a drawer for ash collector it might be missing
Nice!!!
Thanks!!
Jay. Love your channel. Keep up the great content. That stove will be awesome in the wood shed!! How do you edit your videos?
Hey Josh! I use I movie on an ipad. I import the clips in 1080 onto the ipad then use Imovie to gell it all together. Nothing fancy.
@@HomesteadJay it works Jay! Love the videos keep up the good work sir.
Thank you!
Nice! Can I ask where you got your large pickaroons on the wall from? Thank you
Hey Adam! They are council tool 150, its a 36 inch hookaroon! You can google it and shop around! I recomment using two! One for each hand lol double the functionailty! Nice thing is its a standard handle you can get at homedepot or lowes to replace if you break or cut through ( ask me how I know LOL)
@@HomesteadJay Thank you. I appreciate it. I’ll check back on the channel. I hope the wood stove is working out well for you.
I know everything u need to know I have 3 jotuls , on the side is there a 3 or an 8 but fire away I know a lot about them
I got a little Jotul for my Cabin, they got terrible reviews on line but it works great for me. I think allot of folks try to burn crumby wood and blame the stove or something!
Whats going on brother I know you do lol. The underside piece? What is that for? I know the lever above the glass is the air control but the bottom one I have no idea. Didnt see anything in the manual online
@@buildlife your right they work amazing
That makes sense people blame the wood lol
@@HomesteadJay I couldn't figure it out either. I think one is intake and one is a damper but Shayn could probably tell you better. I have only used mine a few times so far. Does it slide to push ash into the pan? I'm headed down there Sunday, Ill look when I get there.
come on man you act like its heavy. LOL
It’s awkward moving with a broken leg on the stove hahahah
