    Thanks for engaging the home community dude! As someone living in a city without shops to choose from, this is a very important demographic to keep in mind. Especially going into the future and sharing the coffee passion with folks who become more and more interested in specialty.

    Thank you Chris! Love your vids, know-how, style etc. Look forward to the full review. I'm in Canada and the price of anything espresso related (and I do mean everything) is *very* expensive. It took me years to save up enough to get the Breville Duo Temp Pro and a Baratza Encore grinder. The grinder cost me $225 CDN and $370 for the espresso machine, for a total of $595 (all prices are with tax added). I know for many people that is not a lot of money but I'm on a disability pension and can barely get through the month on the petty cheque I get from it.
    All that being said, I am amazed at the shots I'm pulling. The Encore grinder is an amazing grinder, short on looks and big on excellent grinding. The Breville machine is about as plain as they come but again, the lack of chrome and buttons to play with belay how well it works, and how easy it is to use. I would recommend both these items for anyone on a really tight budget who still want to enjoy a decent cuppa.
    Loving your videos, thanks for the time you take to make them!

    Rad. I've always thought that the Breville folks have been doing interesting stuff in the home market and this campaign to get it in the hands of people like you is a really good idea. You have the skills, tools, and mindset to really make good comparisons and as you said "get weird" with it which is something that I think a lot of folks skip with these machines in favor of jumping directly to a Rancilio and separate grinder etc. I've had my eye on espresso for a few years and am between a high-end Breville, a prosumer setup, and the Decent DE1. Will definitely be looking forward to the next installments in this series.

    • @gouletpalexandre
      @gouletpalexandre 6 лет назад

      Although, a Silvia PID with a Baratza Vario 886 will set you back $1500: half as much as this machine! Comparing apple to oranges. The price for this Breville will put you in the prosumer setup range. I think it's more geared towards the people who want to get quality results without having to learn too much skills. IMO this is a good compromise between simplicity of a full auto and the quality of coffee you can attain with a semi-auto and skills.

    I’ve got the barista express at home and think I can some something decent out of that. Nothing to the standard of what can get out la marzocco, but that’s to be expected with due to price point
    Only annoying thing with the express is that is has a 54mm basket

    RCB - I use the Breville Oracle (no Touch, buttons), and I've pulled some very nice shots with your Cat & Cloud. I'm in sync with the grind settings and shot temp's you established. Other coffees, much finer grinds (18, 19). I am interested in your additional reviews, as I purchased mine for pure ease of use and time and coffee savings. Overall, I have pulled what I consider to be very nice espresso shots, and have made what I consider lovely cappuccinos and lattes with this machine. I note I am only an aspiring barista, though, and am just starting my coffee journey. Kudos to Breville, IMO, as I've been using this machine with relative success now for over six months.

    Hi, I have the machine since four weeks. The first few days it made wonderful rich espresso with different beans. It runs like honey down the rods of the porta filter and I got a good crema. But now it starts with a thin line of dark espresso and shortly after it switches to a watery light soup which runs in the cup. Cleaned everything, let hot water run through the brewing head. Doesn’t change. Do you have an idea?

    Thanks for the video. You have helped me with setting up the oracle and I now have the oracle touch as well. I can’t get the touch to make decent coffee at all. I’ve gone through bags of beans and haven’t been excited about anything I’ve made. I’m beginning to think the machine is faulty. When the grind and tamp process on the oracle starts it runs for 10 seconds roughly but the touch seems to go for 30 plus seconds. A massive difference between the two. I can’t find a video where someone with the touch shows this process in real time. I need help big time. Thanks Steven🇦🇺🦘

    We recently purchased one of these and noticed no matter what our grinding setting is at around 40 to get it to start pouring at the recommended range of 8 to 12 seconds. Is that really the best way to judge it or should we look at output volume?

    • @sunshine1414
      @sunshine1414 6 лет назад

      I believe there is a way to adjust the burrs to fix this issue....I don't know the technical terms, but you basically remove the top burr, adjust it to the left or right, and what used to be the grind at 40 will be the grind at 20 (as an example). Also - try a few different beans. I have one bean that I have to grind at 39/40 to get the right output/flavour, and another (from the same roaster) that is at 31.

    So Breville says RO water doesn’t have enough minerals and will interfere with the operation of the machine, heating the water etc. Others say it’s just affects the flavor of the coffee. Which one is it? Seems you use RO at the coffee shop. Why not on a Breville.

    I'd like to know more about the built in grinder. That was a downside for me

      My opinion is nothing compared to Chris', but I think the built in grinder (on the Barista Express) is great for a beginner. I eventually upgraded to a Baratza Vario for grinding which is easier to dial in.

    Lazy buggers like me put a bowl under the head when purging, that way you don't empty the drip tray so often.

    Spring piston lever machine ALL day for me. If Specialty Coffee has gotten to the point where everything is "P-T-B" (Push to brew) and the artform of manual brew is fading into robot brewing, then we had a good 15 years I guess. I for one will remain old school. Who knows, maybe one day someone will be calling ME a hipster. Hah.

      Totally agree... I would still have my Cremina (manual lever) if not for severe rotator cuff tendonitis in both shoulders. This push button/weigh everything/check and log every variable crap the weenie tot coffee nerds spout off about is getting old and ridiculous. To me espresso is skill/art form/scientific rolled into one, not push button consistency every extraction.

      I think there will always be a market for the retro - Hell L.M. just dropped the Leva machine at HOST! ruclips.net/video/NmAcB01s0xg/видео.html They're just built for two different types of users / experience.

    I have to disagree with Breville on setting shots by time. Makes no sense for a home user with little knowledge.
    One day they might have a 10g espresso that will taste ridiculously strong, then next they might have a 60g shot that'll taste watery.
    What I reckon they should do is set shots by volume and use a stopwatch to time each shot. Then let the user know if the shot's flow rate was acceptable or not and then recommend a better grind setting.
    Know what I mean?

      I've been using the manual override button with pretty good success. Time may not be optimal but shouldn't fluctuate shot volume on that scale unless there's something else wildly wrong. Dose is static so you seem to get about the same volume (close enough for regular people) at a certain time frame. I'll post a feelings video soon after I get a bit more time with it but yes - volume based outputs would definitely be better than time bound. Probably a lot more $$$ ^__^

      RealChrisBaca I think on the dual boiler you can change the settings to to volumetric control rather than timed when programming single/double shot volume. I'm guessing this may be possible on your machine too?

    Another video showing a guy who takes a little bit of time and effort to make sure his hat is slightly crooked. Also, using RO water in the machine is specifically called out as what not to do.
