I used Mr. Coffee near 40 years with the exception of a Bunn for two years until the tank rusted out. Then back to Mr.Coffee until a month ago when I bought my Breville Precision. No going back for me unless the Breville stops working. I will keep Mr.Coffee in a box for backup in case the Breville misfires. I hope to be using the Breville for many years to come. What a machine. Yes it cost a lot of money but I am worth it. I love good coffee and drink a lot of it of many different brands
I jumped on the Technivorm KBG741AO for its build quality and simplicity. It also has a simple float/switch arrangement that turns the heater off before running dry. I use mine pour over style stirring the grinds @ 40sec and against @ 2m to sink the floating grinds. Simple, fast with consistent excellent flavor. I learned much by watching your channel & apply it to my coffee experience.
Yes $300 is expensive but then again people spend $500+ on an espresso machine that probably use less often. I just got one and it is great. The coffee is nice and smooth. Like you said for a single cup there is there is the temperature issue. I have it pour directly into a preheated insulated travel mug.
Chris, outstanding review. You're an amazing presenter. Just bought this on sale at $199 from Best Buy (other retailers have the same price right now).
Best Review on this machine I have seen. My Bodum Bistro is on the fritz and looking for an upgrade. I don't have the patience to do a manual pour over every day, and during the week I like to do larger batches of coffee. I appreciate the comparisons to the Bonavita, I think the temperature control is the key feature though.
I know there's a good chance that you're fed up with the "how do you feel about [fill in the blank]?" but I'm dying to know what you guys think of the Melodrip. It would help me to declutter some of all the coffee stuff I have at home. Thanks!
Rad review Chris (same goes for the Oracle). As for your point #2 my best guess is that Breville wants you to use that pour-over setting that you said that you aren't into for small batches. I doubt that they ever intended them to end up in the carafe. Just my thoughts.
Any chance we will ever see a review of one of the newer automated Moccamasters without the flow control? Seems like everyone is always comparing the Technivorm as the standard to home drip makers. Would love to hear your take on it.
I'd love to get my hands on one. Getting gear is pretty challenging unless it's at a huge discount as my pockets aren't really as full as I'd like them to be ^__^
@@RealChrisBaca I'm a starter. Please explain me: Which filter coffee jug better than other, THERMOS jug or GLASS jug? For better coffee flavor which one i must choose ?
The pour over feature is really nice you missed out on one of the machines best features. Plus the cold brew. Pour overs and cold brew are huge right now.
For an equally good brewer but with a proper shower head look at the Behmor Brazen. It does almost everything this brewer does with the only limitation being that it can’t really be used for a single cup.
I tried this brewer and returned, primarily because of the showerhead. When I brewed, i would end up with a big hole in the middle of my grounds, with dry and unextracted grounds on the edges. Then the coffee tasted bitter because it was only brewing from the grounds in the middle. Was this your experience also?
randymac88 Thanks Randy - the brewer is only $180 now on Google Shopping ($199-$20 Google Shopping code), and I was just about to pull the trigger. For (relatively hands-free) pour-over busy-morning coffee I use OXO BREW Single Serve Pour Over Coffee Dripper with Auto-Drip Water Tank ($12.79 on Amazon). It's surprisingly good, especially if you bloom the coffee bed (medium-fine grind, 195F temperature) Weekend, parties? Chemex 8-cup.
I think you'd be better off with something a bit more industrial. I'd look into some of the entry level Curtis stuff: www.wilburcurtis.com/categories/coffee-brewers?field_equipment_sub_category_tid%5B%5D=1692&items_per_page=24
What about Mr. Coffee brewers? JK. I am interested in it because it has a setting that allows you to get the temperature to the SCAA's recommendations. SCAA is a coffee the Specialty Coffee Association of American and I a member of it.
Guilty! I always hit the like button before you start talking lol! It’s like throwing a tip in the jar before you place your order! It just makes for a good interaction lol. Anyways great vid, I just might get one of those brewers for my parents! Theirs is so old and everything is broken on it. Thanks man
Great video. Thanks for the review. I have wondered about getting something to do batch brewing, especially for when company comes over or for when I just want to make good tasting coffee, but don't feel like the work of manual brewing. The price is a big deterrent for me, but it looks pretty cool.
I’ve been waiting on this review. Thanks brother, you always point out the positives and negatives in a real person prospective. Side note I’m trying to make a trip to Cali this summer and I hope to stop in cat & cloud.
Yup it was the shower head that kept me from upgrading my Bonavita. Seems like someone should be able to make inexpensive gear driven head or arm with multiple ports that could act as a pseudo pour over.
I want something like this so I can have it set to automatically have my coffee ready when I wake up. The Precision Pro seems too big, I only want 1 or 2 cups. Is there something at this level of quality but smaller?
Chris, can you tell me if you need to remove the lid if you are brewing with bloom time? I'm wondering if the lid being on the thermos will force the coffee to flow, even if a bloom time is selected. Thanks.
Hey Chris! I have that brewer since last week and I really enjoy the coffee I make with it. I have a couple of questions for you. First, does it left a bit of water in the tank at the end of the cycle (in the hole in the middle of the tank)? Second, after brewing coffee, do you let the carafe under the filter or elsewhere? I ask because I think heat can come out more easily by letting the carafe placed in the brewing machine under the filter but I could be mistaken. Otherwise, for now, really happy with my purchase. The best drip coffee I ever had.
Awesome review! Thank you! I know it’s been a while since you’ve made this review so I’m curious if you have looked into the Ratio coffee maker. Do you have any thoughts on that one as well?
Hey Chris! Thank you for this!! Question: looking for something for batch brew for our mobile coffee cart would you recommend something like this? Like buying two? Or ? I’ve been searching high and low for something that’s not necessarily industrial but isn’t just a home brewer. It’s a weird place to be. Any feed back would be amazing!!!
It's $429 Aussie dollars here in Aus :( For some reason it's impossible to find a decent filter coffee machine here, market is dominated by expresso and capsule machines. Sucks
They've dropped in price heaps lately. I saw Harvey Norman had them for 199 the other week. And keep in mind that they price match so if you find it cheap online somewhere they'll beat it
Thanks Chris, just being nosey. Don’t know if it’s psychological or not, but coffee sometimes takes on a different aroma and palette if ground outside, might just be me! P.s keep up the good work, you’re a gem👍🏻
Comandante lying back there...any news??I don't think in Europe there is market for that brewers rather home barista that likes good coffee buys V60/Kalita/Chemex with as good hand grinder as he/she can...thanks for reviews anyway Chris ;)
$400 coffee machine that keeps giving error codes which then the machine has to be replaced. Do not waste your money. Buy a Technivorm. Make a follow up on your review when you started to get errors. I'd like to see how long it will take
Informative review with personality! Decided not to go with this coffee brewer after hearing your review, because of the carafe and loud noise. One annoying thing about your review is your excessive hand movement... after awhile I feel like I’m watching a puppet talking. Try sitting on your hands as you talk, or zoom-in the camera from the shoulders up. Also, have the actual product in front of the camera so the viewer can better connect with what your demonstrating. If we ignore the adjustability this machine gives you: does it make better coffee than the Bonavita or not?

What is the purpose of that "pour over adapter"? How does it work?
NOLA local here; love that you're repping Humidity Skate Shop!
Seriously the best skate shop I've ever visited. I'm 100% in love with everything they do!
The pour over is great for just one cup and the shower head has more holes in it so yo might prefer it to the original.
A lot of good info, thanks for the heads up on the noise. I'm still not convinced on the price point for a home brewer.
It is a good bit of $$$
I like the Bonivita brewer much better. Simpler and taste better. Just pour the coffee into a better air-pot or caraf.
Hey Chris - have you ever done or do you plan to do a Moccamaster brewer review? Would be super curious to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks!

Solid review. Thank you for the insight.
As a coffee lover as I am, I want one.
Mine is dying after 3.5 years. Blows "Er 7" after every pot. It's been regularly descaled - 3x recently.
Does the water container come off or is it fixed to the unit?
would you say its a solid buy at this time for under 200??? or is there others that are as well or better at a lower price?
Great review. I will be sticking with my Technivorm Moccamaster.
Thanks Tommy!
Hey Chris! Would you recommend this as a batch brewer for a small coffee shop?
Thanks and we love your videos!

This works great i swapped over from my Moccamaster
Plastic in the head? In the basket? Why....? Would it kill them to just use metal and glass everywhere that touches hot water?

Come to Cali my man, it's the best in the summer time!
It's definitely on our list of things to do this summer.
Hey Chris, do you still stand by this review, a lot of people are complaining about it on amazon after a few months of use with descaling issues?
Yup it was the shower head that kept me from upgrading my Bonavita. Seems like someone should be able to make inexpensive gear driven head or arm with multiple ports that could act as a pseudo pour over.
like a rotating car wash shower

I just got this machine. When I put in 12 ounces only 8 ounces comes out. This is using the cone filter. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Chris! I have that brewer since last week and I really enjoy the coffee I make with it. I have a couple of questions for you. Yeah that water stays in there - that was interesting for me to see as well. I leave the carafe under there and it doesn't seem to be a problem

Is there a parameter for how much bean to drop into a 12 cup batch? any recommendation? thx

RealChrisBaca it would be sweet to see you skate our local diy park. It’s called Parasite. You just may love it!
Great review! I’m already out of counter space, but im still considering it! Haha
stacks on stacks
Just get a Technivorm. My machine failed with in 75 days and Breville was not supportive at all.
Do you still have this coffee maker? If so, does it still work well? I just ordered mine and it's in transit.
Keith Richmond how do you like it? I just bought one and I haven’t used it yet.
Is this a better choice than the moccamaster?
I haven't used the newer Technivorm stuff but I'd love to get my hands on one
Is the water container removable?
No it's not.
Very helpful. Thanks!
