    You can 100% change the dose on this machine! You use the provided allen wrench to loosen the tamping fan assembly which is very easy to do. Unscrew until you have 4 threads showing, and reassemble. My dose is now about 18 grams. Also, you can steam milk manually. Lift up the steam arm, and hold down the milk button for a few seconds; this will turn on the manual steam option.

      @SeekerKnight 5 лет назад +17

      You can also fine tune the grind in 1/10 step increments by removing the bean basket, remove the top burr, take off the retaining wire, turn the adjustment ring, then re assemble in reverse order.

    This machine has a great warranty. You can also adjust the dosing by adjusting the tamping fan down. I purchased mine four years ago, had it repaired once under warranty. Failed after four years and Breville offered to repair for $550 or give me a 25% discount. I sent in for repair, it was unrepairable. Breville said they would send a refurbished unit if it was unrepairable. No refurbished units in stock, so they sent a new unit. We run 8 pounds of locally roasted beans a month through it. Great purchase.

    Thanks Chris, great review! FYI - You can adjust the dosage to as low as 19g from the default 22 by disconnecting the fan and adjusting the connector with the provided allen key. I set mine to 20g. I've had the machine for a solid year now and absolutely love it!

    Nice review thanks. Went for the non touch oracle myself as didn’t think the interface was worth the extra. In the UK Sage (Breville Europe) offer what they call a white glove service where they send a coffee pro to help you set it up and dial it in which is pretty cool.

    I have owned the older Breville Dual boiler for over 2 years and love it! I personally love the ability to dial in shots and foaming my own milk. For around $1200 + the Eureka Mignon stepless grinder ($499) you can pull some amazing shots. It is hard to go out for coffee now!

  • @massiada000
    @massiada000 5 лет назад +1

    Great review. One important note is the dosage is based on the basket. For example the stock double causes the machine to grind and tamp about 22 grams whole the single has about 12. This is a cool feature so I assume you can buy smaller 58mm baskets to get a lesser amount. It must sense when the grinds get to a certain level then tamp. I am happy as I was at first disappointed the dose couldn’t be altered, but you just need a different basket.

    Review of the Breville Barista Express (most popular model on Amazon)? or the Breville Dual Boiler with a separate grinder?

  • @BobStCyr
    @BobStCyr 4 года назад +1

    I had that plastic part crack on my Breville Oracle (non-touch version) apparently this is a common problem seems like a design flaw - part is not strong enough. Compared to my ECM syncronika and Ceado E37s I can get a better tasting coffee on the manual set up - not all the time though and the Breville is more consistent. The Breville is easier and cleaner also easy to get the different coffees - for instance an Americano etc. As Chris says though -I enjoy toying with my settings etc. so now my son has the Breville and I use the manual set up and occasionally have awesome espresso, and sometimes pour it down the sink.

    I wonder if you're getting wetter steam which is altering the texture. You should weigh in your milk before and after to see how much water is being introduced to your milk compared to a gs3 or sumthin. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason for the difference with the milk

    3:52 Never heard that before but makes sense. I single dose and still on the hunt for a good grinder for espresso. This new info makes me wonder if the slow RPM of a hand grinder like the Orphan Espresso Pharos 2.0 would be better because the extremely slow spinning burrs would create less of a popcorn action vs the fast spinning speed of a Ceado E5P.

    • @RealChrisBaca
      @RealChrisBaca  6 лет назад +2

      I have a theory that for any given grinder there's an optimum rpm for "pulling" beans into the burr set. I know in the old conical only espresso days the slower RPM's were certainly more predictable (probably a number of reasons for that...

    Hi,
    I have the Oracle touch at home and I have some questions about making latte art with it. I really hope you can help me.
    - Could you please tell me the optimal settings you used while making latte art. (Grind size for the grinder, brew time, settings for frothing the milk)
    - Is it possible to make latte art while using the automatic steam wand?
    Or is it recommended to froth the milk manually?
    - The sage comes with a single and double basket. The double basket (22g) for a single coffee is way to strong for me. I use the single basket (11g) but can this affect the latte art? What is recommended to use for latte art?
    - Is it possible to use baskets from other brands with the Oracle thouch? This way to lower the amount of coffee in the double basket from 22g to 17 gram.
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Greetings

    • @makeme.coffee
      @makeme.coffee 4 года назад

      I'm confused here. Latte art has nothing to do with grind size, coffee bean dose. I can do latte art on matcha, even on choco drink.

    Nice job on the review...BUT! Initially you talked about trying out stuff like other portafilters and baskets, did you try that out? I hear people claiming you can pop in a smaller basket (something like an 18 or 20g) to get a lower dose.
    I guess most people buy this machine to not bother with that kind of stuff, however I do think it’s always interesting to se what a machine can do. Tweaks ’n’ all.
    Peace!

    It's pretty interesting, though you're right. I think the fixed dose would be a deal breaker for me. I've got a Linea Mini (and Robur) at home and I've really enjoyed the experimentation. The LM Home coffee subscription is fun because they've been pretty good about choosing a wide variety of roasts and ratios. I'm also a big single origin fan, so there's that. :)
    What's the warm up time? The ~10 minutes on the Mini were one of the big factors over some of the other dual boilers and HXers that took 30 minutes.

    • @RealChrisBaca
      @RealChrisBaca  6 лет назад

      Warm up is around 15min so it's pretty quick. Being able to set the timer and have the machine kick on by itself is a key feature. Robur at home! That thing is dominating your counter and I applaud you!

    Got the Oracle touch a few months ago. First espresso machine and still learning... Could you make a video dialing in a shot with a new bag of coffee and what settings you use on the milk frother to make a decent latte, with this machine specifically? I think that would be helpful for many and there isn't anything else out there like that with the Oracle touch.

      @jaywuzherealso 6 лет назад

      ruclips.net/video/zeHSX_liWmM/видео.html you could use the principles of the original oracle to dial in the grind in the oracle touch

    • @ixs4r
      @ixs4r 6 лет назад

      jaywuzherealso - I have the very basics as noted in the video down easily. I suppose my issue comes with the presets and how all the milk drinks (latte, cappuccino, flat white) have more to do with the milk than dialing in the shot. Also when you dial in your particular batch of beans (and adjust day to day as needed) you can adjust the grind easily, but the shot duration/brew time requires bypassing the single/double shot button. I've been weighing my shots and making a custom setting that I adjust brew time with each new bag and along the way. I don't mind it, but seems like I'm bypassing a few of the conveniences offered by the machine.

    • @jaywuzherealso
      @jaywuzherealso 6 лет назад

      Ricardo Santayana Jr - For me, I just merely adjust the grind size (while keeping the preset shot time duration) to get the volume I desire. So with a new set of beans: if i'm getting more of an over-extracted shot I'll select a courser grind, and if I get an under-extracted shot, i'll select a finer grind size next time until I get the volume I desire for either a single/double cup shot. Basically followed the instructions on that little letter "i" on the top left of the screen and its been working great for me

    Hey Chris, having trouble texturing the milk with the oracle touch. auto does not completely infuse the milk with air like i could do manually w/the dual boiler. so a few seconds (like 4) after pouring, it thins out and the "spoon test" shows a very thin layer of foam with a milky shot underneath. I play with the froth from 4 to 9, but same 4 second result. manual mode sucks as the wand has 4 holes and the angle is 45 degrees. I continually get large bubbles and not infusing the milk much differently then auto mode. am I missing something here? i know this is something you address in your review but you seen to get a better texture then i'm able to. thanks!

    Help.... We've had the Touch for a couple of weeks now, and I am really disappointed in the quality of the milk I am getting. The froth separates from the milk almost immediately and my drinks basically consist of espresso and hot milk with little to no microfoam. It does a great job manually, but a big reason we sprang for this machine was so that I wouldn't have to be steaming milk for my husband's drinks anymore, lol. Every review I've seen shows the reviewers pouring what appears to be a pretty respectable milk with the froth setting on 4 or 5. I have cleaned the wand with the tool, I use cold whole milk, and a cold pitcher filled about half way. I give it a good rap and polish, but the results are still disappointing - a little froth on top of the pitcher, milk on the bottom. The pour ends up being almost all milk. Definitely no latte art here. Any ideas? I am hoping it's operator error so that I can change what I'm doing, but I don't know what else I might be doing wrong. Am expecting too much?

    I'm new to Breville, was this review made before you could change the doze that goes into the filter, or did you just not know that your able to change it from 22g, to let's say 18g. Of-course then it's fixed at 18g for every shot.

    Is there a manual mode for the milk frothing? I want to learn how to texture milk and perfect my technique for latte art.

      Yes, you can froth manually by lifting the wand up and holding your finger on the froth button.

    Great review! I have the machine and had a very similar experience with it. My machine actually doses even higher than yours (consistently 24g) which I don't mind from a taste perspective but MAN I am burning through beans at a serious pace! Loved your first review/not a review of the Oracle and this was a great follow up. Thanks!

      Lower the tamping fan and/or pick up a 15g VST basket. I've been able to get a consistent 19g out of my Oracle Touch with this set up. With the 15g basket, I think I could get the dose lower if I needed.

    What machine would you recommend for someone who wants to double the dose of grounds, but also has a clean built in grind/tamper? Steamer not required. Thanks!

    Does this machine change the grinder setting for each saved drink in menus ?, because it sounds like you would use the same grind value for all drinks, I was wondering if you could make like a regular cup of coffee by running water thru puck for a longer extraction ?.

    So tight. Best and most thoughtful review of any home machine I've ever seen. I do love my Dual Boiler. Only complaint is that the volumetric mode is pretty sketchy. That's okay. I just ride manual with a scale. :) Keep crushin' the vids, Mr. Baca!

    Hi Chris, you mentioned in your Linea Mini review that it is able to make cafe grade cup of coffee. How does this breville compare to that? I'm asking because I am using a breville dual boiler now and wonder if I should get the linea mini. I too am looking for the cafe grade of coffee.

    Nice. You should post the recipe for The Answer. I wonder if the setting for the Oracle internal grinder can somewhat be transfer to the Smart Grinder Pro. Appreciate the review but I am still waiting for the one on the Acaia Lunar ;)

    Hi i just bought this machine a month ago and i really enjoy its espresso, but i noticed the steamed milk is not good as it suppose to ( it's kinda separated ). My creatista plus steam wand makes silky smooth frothed milk better than this Oracle touch . I did notice there are only two holes out of four despising steam and when i reported this to the Breville Technical support here in Malaysia they said this is normal. But Technical Service in Australia they confirm that the 4 holes should release steam. Does your Machine release steam from the 4 holes or just two like mine? if applicable can do video on this ?

      Hey just read you post and i was wondering as a owner of the creatista plus nespresso machine my self is it worth going for this oracle touch, i agree with you the creatista plus make great milk froth automaticly.
      Please give me any thoughts since the nespresso creatista plus is a good easy machine, i just feel that want maybee some more choice in my coffea blends. And that is why im thinking of a other machine.

    Chris....great review. Am about to pull the trigger on one, myself. Read someone elses review where they complained ad naseum about the inability to easily update the firmware (actually, not at all unless you ship it home to Mother Breville). Im not tuned into all of this as yet...so tell me, is this REALLY an issue?

    • @stevemazz3121
      @stevemazz3121 6 лет назад

      not an issue at all... it does what it is designed to do.

    • @SaintVacuum
      @SaintVacuum 6 лет назад

      Well....apparently it IS an issue.
      I purchased an Oracle Touch. Soon thereafter it began forgetting my saved drink settings. When I called Breville about it, I was told that there is a bug in the firmware that causes this. It is triggered when one attempts to name a saved drink with more than 9 characters...or setting the steam temperature to a value at or above 169F degrees. (Neither of which I think I did...but I did randomly twiddle with settings for awhile when I first got it, so I must have).
      Now...if there was a way for an owner to reflash the firmware, this would not be a problem. As it is.....Breville had to ship me a new machine and I had to drain the boilers (without any help or instructions from Breville although I pleaded with them) and then box up and return the original one.
      +1 Attaboy Point for being unreservedly and immediately honest with me about the matter
      -2 for making me fork over a credit card number (even if there was never any charge made) in order
      for them to clean up their mess. Just plain rude, that one.
      -1 for making me deal with all of the other logistics involved.
      -2 for letting such an easily triggered bug get all the way through beta testing and out into
      the world in the first place.

    This is exactly why I have one of these in my kitchen.. It is because I don't want to learn how to steam milk and i don't want to fuss with stepless grinders and measure doses etc.. All I want is to wake up and have this machine make it for me and it does exactly that with minimal effort from my end. Is it as good as a $15 cup of latte at my local cafe? No it's not... Is it 95% as good? Hell yes it is and I don't care about that extra 5% and having to go somewhere to buy a cup that's 5% better. It tastes exactly the same when it's all said and done...
