    I have the oracle and a profitec 700 and they are both of value to me. Keep the oracle at work and it saves me time. I like to slow down at home with the profitec and savor the process. Slightly better results from the profitec/ceado e37s combo but as I say, the art is fun when you have time and will always help your drinks improve on the oracle as you get the best grind setting/brew time by experience. Cheers

      Hi Drew, Thanks for the comment! Your Pro 700/Ceado E37S is a darn fine combo which should produce a slightly better result. The Oracle is a time saver, less messy and helps with consistency as well.

      pogokam sounds like the oracle is a perfect fit for you. The quality is very close to my prosumer machine (Profitec 700) that I am very happy with the quality. Milk texturing is very good even using the auto froth function and suitable for latte art as shown in the video. The only real variable you adjust on a regular basis is the grind size and even that is minimal!

    Had it confirmed from Sage (uk version of Breville) that the inside of this is exactly the same as the “old” version. It’s the touchscreen that refreshes the range (and adds a few hundred ££ on top)

      Hi LK, Thanks for sharing that info. A couple of other differences I'm aware of: On the Touch model you can no longer adjust tamping pressure or pre-infusion level. Guessing non-adjustable tamping pressure may simplify the mechanics of the machine a bit. Don't think that's a loss as most in the espresso community seem to agree tamping pressure is not critical so long as consistent. I also wonder if milk frothing has been improved in the touch model. I hope to find out more specific details when I talk with Breville's Phil McKnight at the Specialty Coffee Expo in a few weeks.

    • @Kernow76

      Ah OK, wasnt made aware of that. They really are trying to make this a "one stop shop" for espresso aren't they. People with the money to drop on this machine (which i loved) but don't want to spend time tweaking.

    A few simple questions that I have yet to see addressed with tips for brewing at home with coffee like this. What is the correct way to add the sugar? In Miami, and our espresso being so popular, I see different styles with adding of the sugar. While some stir it directly into the coffee, others (especially those for South America) make a slurry of sorts with a small about of coffee dissolving the sugar first. I question is the latter step is unnecessary. I am confused about another item omitted from videos that I am seeing. So you add the coffee, and you can decide if you want a single, double shot, etc. If I only wanted a single shot, would not the remaining coffee be wasted?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Carolyn, I guess it depends on where you are but adding sugar to espresso is not very common in many areas. Espresso has evolved over the years and today's 3rd wave coffees and tighter control of brewing parameters result in a beverage that is not bitter. Go back a few decades or further and espresso was bitter. The first espresso, brewed more than a century ago was made with steam! It was very bitter. Older generation Italians almost always add sugar. For those that do add sugar, (I don't and I see very few people who do) most common is to add the sugar after a complete espresso is made. At least that's what I saw in Italy and how it's done by Italians I've observed here in the US. As for amount of coffee used the old Italian standard was 7g for a single and 14g for a double. The dose weights have edged up a bit. The average according to a recent specialty coffee association survey of baristas was 19g for a double. Very few cafes bother pulling singles. They are much more difficult to get right. The home machines which make espresso usually dose different amounts for singles and doubles.
      Hope that helps!

    How does the machine know to dose a single or double?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  6 лет назад +3

      Hi QSS, Great question! It's the Oracle so it knows of course! Just kidding. I believe the tamping mechanism senses the level of coffee in the filter basket. When you switch between the single and double basket you do not have to change any settings. Machine automatically fills each properly.

      Hi RR, Oracle Touch is one of a few Breville machines which does not include dual wall pressurized filter baskets which are required for using ESE pods. So out of the box it's not capab;le of using ESE pods. Dual wall filter baskets are available individually from Breville.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад

      Hi w, Thanks for the question. Sour flavors indicate under-extraction. Typically you'd want to set the grind finer. Actual setting depends on a bunch of variables like coffee bean type, brew temp, dose weight, etc. You will need to dial in your grind size as it's not one size fits all. Here's a video showing the simple process of dialing in: ruclips.net/video/jOY7D02n4Cw/видео.html

    Do I need to just use more milk than I need and then adjust the angle of the milk container to stop milk and start foam transfer? Will the machine be damaged if I run it with the milk below the white marker?

      Hi g, Thanks for the question. In cup temps are what you'd get with any semi-auto machine. Nice thing with the Oracle touch is you can set the milk temp to what you like. It maxes out at ~165F which is hotter than you should go for best flavor. Proteins start to break down in the 160s harming flavor. Like with any machine if you like really hot beverages pre-heat your cup.

      Hi Paul, Sounds like you're looking at super-automatic bean to cup machines vs. semi-automatic like the machine in this video. The one-touch bean to cup machines do offer more convenience at the expense of potential quality. Semi-autos require some skill, knowledge and often patience to produce consistently superior results.

    Hi Marc, how would you compare this machine to a super-auto like the Gaggia Cadorna prestige?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 года назад +3

      Hi Thomas, Thanks for the question. A couple of key difference. Maybe it goes without saying but the Cadorna Prestige is all about convenience. Push a button and your drink is made. Things are a bit more involved with the Oracle with grinding and mounting the portafilter. Then a separate pitcher for milk frothing. The frothing is somewhat automated and you can get a much wider variety of froth densities and temps on the Oracle. I've always considered the Oracle as a crossover from super-autos to semi-autos. Both are appliance grade in build quality. Oracle uses a much larger coffee dose and traditional extraction through a non-pressurized filter basket. So put in the effort and its capable of higher quality espresso. Like other semi-auto machines you will want to turn it on and let it warm up before use. On the prestige you can turn on the machine and have a drink in a couple of minutes. If seek a convenient beverage that's better in quality than the majority of most big name chain cafes the Prestige can do that. If not worried about convenience and willing to put in some effort you can get specialty cafe quality from the Oracle. Hope that helps!

    Many barista`s is telling me in a double shot is 17-18 grams.
    The machine is telling me 22grams, and in your video you also tells 22 grams.
    Why 22 grams? Is it because of milk based beverages or what?
    I`m very confused about the dose.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад

      Hi i, Thanks for the question. I wonder if you are confusing grind size setting with coffee dose. Here's a link in the video where I'm adjusting grind size to 24. That does not refer to the amount of coffee. It's the size of the ground coffee particles: ruclips.net/video/2F7etUZrzKQ/видео.html
      The Oracle handles the dose amount automatically and it's not user adjustable beyond selecting a single or double shot dose. Depending on the coffee you're using automatic dose control should give you ~17g for a double. I know for sure the basket can not hold 22g which would be a triple shot. Hope that helps!

    What do you set the foam level at?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 лет назад +4

      Hi DW, You can set things where you want but here are some suggestions:
      grind setting: Dial in the grind to produce an espresso in a 20-30 second time range. If coming too fast adjust grind finer. If to slow adjust coarser.
      Brew water temperature: Espresso is brewed at 195-205F (90.5-96C) Tend toward a lower temp for dark roasted beans and higher temp for lighter roast.
      milk temperature: Milk gains it's most apparent sweetness due to heating at 140F (60C). But set it how you like. After 155F (68C) you start to lose sweetness. At 175F (80C) milk is getting close to scalding
      What do you set the foam level at: This is personal preference. For a latte use a setting that produces a very fine microfoam. For a traditional cappuccino use a setting which produces an airier froth.
      Hope that helps!

      Thank you for your input! Being on the fence with espresso machines is the place I've been for more than a month :-) And I remember when I bought my Rocket, it was the same way. Difference being, at that time, I lived very close to SCG and was able to drive there and do my own taste tests. It is much different now as I live in Central Oregon and the ONLY espresso machine I've been able to find local is Jura. I ruled that out immediately as the milk drinks were only luke warm to me. The taste of the espresso was wonderful, but I can't do luke warm drinks....again, thank you for your input! Much appreciated and your comments make total sense to me. And the Profitec 500 with PID is my other consideration at this point. Getting ready to make a decision and jump in!

      Susan Olberding no worries at all and I wish you the best!! Been happy with the profitec setup for about a year now.. I think you’ll be happy either way! Just think about how much you’d like to tinker vs convenience of the oracle and you’ll make the right call!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  6 лет назад +2

      Drew C gave good advice! Nice thing with the Oracle is you can dial up the milk temp if you like it hotter. Pro 500 PID is a very nice machine! Reliabilty is better on the machine vs. appliance. But Breville does have good support and 2 year warranty. If your more hands on go with the Pro 500 PID. If you value easy, quick and consistent convenience go with the Oracle.

      Some differences: New model does not have adjustable tamping pressure or adjustable pre-infusion. New Touch model has a semi-automated descaling procedure and ability to save settings for 5 standard drinks and 8 user defined drinks.

      I have watched almost all your vids including the one you referred me to
      Tha thing is I wanted them side by side
      And yes I noticed the absence of the preinfusion and the adjustable tamping
      All I wanted to discuss is that can the absence of these features considered a deal breaker?
      Are the new features with the touch screen worth it?

      @@Wholelattelovepage Great reviews - I'm really struggling to decide between the original Oracle and the Oracle Touch as there are extremely good deals on the older model and it comes in around 30% cheaper than the 'Touch'. So it really comes down to those programmable presets and how useful they would actually be?

    Hi Marc do you have a recommendation between this and the Jura Z6? My thinking is that the Jura is simpler to use, may be more reliable in the long-term (Jura has a reputation for long lasting machines) and maintenance products are easier to obtain. But it looks like the Oracle can heat the milk to a higher temperature, produces a better quality cup and maintenance is simpler and cheaper. Would appreciate your thoughts

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад +3

      Hi Tahir, Please excuse my delayed response - I've been offline for a few days. You've hit the nail on the head with your thinking and seem to be in the cross-over position. That is you're in between the convenience of a super-automatic like the Jura and the increased potential of a semi-automatic like the Breville machines. This Breville is a bit more automated than traditional semi-autos so I'm not surprised you are considering it from your cross-over position. If you want little to no effort consistency then the Jura is an excellent choice. Turn it on and within minutes no-hassle drinks. Push a button and the machine does the rest. While the Breville has more potential quality, producing it consistently is more of a commitment on your part - more time, skill, knowledge is required. If hotter milk is important to you and you're willing to put in the effort then the Breville is probably the way to go. The Jura heats milk to it's sweet point of 130F/55C (+/-10F). That's what a properly trained barista would do. I understand some like it hotter anyway - if that's you the Jura may disappoint. Hope that helps!

    What’s the best grinder settings for late dark roast beens ? I saw people using from 18 to 34 but I don’t understand who’s right and which one is the best

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 года назад +1

      Hi Alex, Just because someone is using a certain grind setting doesn't mean you should! A bunch of variables beyond roast level play into setting the right grind size. Beyond that, a certain setting number on your Breville will probably produce a different grind size than on someone else's. Grind size is not set and forget. As beans age or other variables change subtle adjustments in grind size will be needed. Check out my video on how to dial in grind size to learn how to easily get grind size set properly: ruclips.net/video/jOY7D02n4Cw/видео.html
      It does not use a Breville but the process is the same regardless.

    It’s a shame the grinders in these are so bad as it’s a brilliant idea for those who don’t want all the fuss and the milk is great.
    I found with lighter roasts the auto tamp doesn’t work very well and you get a lot of uneven pucks which when it’s dosing at 22g is a waste of coffee.

      Hi GLC, Thanks for the comment and question. I guess it depends on what you consider a regular cup of coffee. In Italy ask for a coffee and you get an espresso. If drip coffee is what you consider regular the answer is no. The machine does make an Americano which is about as close as you get to what Americans consider a regular coffee. There's zero drip coffee in Italy. An Americano is espresso combined with hot water.

      Thanks for your reply Whole Latte Love, for now the De Longhi Primadonna is handling good, would you consider the Oracle Touch an upgrade to this?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  6 лет назад

      I would, but... The Oracle is technically a semi-automatic while the Delonghi is a super-automatic. If potentially better espresso quality is an upgrade for you then yes, it's an upgrade. If you are willing to sacrifice some quality for convenience then maybe not. If you like mil-based drinks the Oracle is capable of making higher quality than the Delonghi. And, with adjustable froth density and temperature you can have them exactly how you want.

    • @Whatalifetours

I'm more into the traditional look generally (I'm working my way up to getting a isomac tea as I've just got a Baraza vario) even though breville/sage doesn't doesn't necessarily apply under that umbrella. Still a nice looking machine.
      The original looks nicer (imho) with all the buttons and what not rather than an screen, too much reminiscent of a bean to cup maybe?🤷‍♂️
