The studio version of Yours Is No Disgrace is very good in it's own right...however this live version shows us what an energetic, rhythmic and involved Steve Howe was.
Yes concerts always had best reputation anyone I ever knew who attended. Such a talented roster. No weak links at all.
The studio version is fantastic.
@@carol-mariefleming8689 Yes Carol it has more layers of nice harmony vocals
the version on YESSONGS is the best-- this is not as good as that...the version I recommend is top notch
Voted top guitarist in the world 5 times running.
The intro is so energetic. I love how it builds into the opening power chords of the song. So much fun!
That rare moment in RnR where a band can set aside egos (for a while) and contribute harmonically/rhythmically to the greater whole.
this was the first Yes song I heard , over 50 years ago....I was hooked instantly
YES❗️The greatest band on this or any other planet❗️🔈🔈🔈🔉🔉🔉🔊🔊🔊😎
Totally agree. The greatest band that's stalked the Universe.
The finest live band I ever had the pleasure of witnessing.
An explosion of incredible musicianship.
The live Yessongs versions of this is one of the very best jams you will ever hear in your life! Trust me on this one.
Shout out to whoever suggested this....psychedelic Yes....yikes. ❤
😎
The talent in that band is hard to even fathom!
Congrats on 24K 🚀
Yes was one of the tightest live performers to come out of that era of music.
Ohhh boys this is one of my favorite.... just an epic piece.
This was breath taking live!!!!
Now I gotta dig out my audiophile copy!!!
Cheers
By not listening to the studio version, you guys missed out on how YES' sound engineer Eddy Offord used these great panning effects between the two channels, which were being experimented with in those days, as stereo recordings were less than a decade old in rock & roll. First listeners love it & comment on it but you won't hear it unless you now do the studio version my guys... ( _and_ it features Bruford on drums)
People sleep on Steve Howe He's a genius
Agreed! 😊
Those of us that don’t, grew up with him.
@@ronaldelliott4373the stuff he's doing on the song going for the one is Bonkers 😮
He's, he's a true master of the guitar and doesn't get mentioned anything like enough.
@@melvinwomack3717 Interesting you mentioned that. I was 17 traveling through Europe with friends the summer the members of Yes were working on that album. Can’t remember the city in Switzerland, but crossed paths with Rick Wakeman. He was using a church’s amazing, century old pipe organ to record some of his parts for the “Going For The One” LP. It wasn’t a secret. Everyone in town knew Yes was there and working. There were mobile recording trucks and quite a lot of cables running between the mobiles and the church. Bought the record back in the States when it was released, and I would sit and focus on all of Rick’s work, listening to all the easily distinguishable parts from that organ. Howe of course is remarkable as well. It’s been a favorite of mine ever since. I think I still have some pics and postcards of the inside of the church somewhere. Saw them tour it, “in the round.” It’s been awhile, but I remain an avid Yes, and Classic Era music fan to this day. Just an analog kid in a digital world. I know there are still a few of us left. Regards
You guys will love their song, Changes!!!!! Trust me!!!!!
You gotta hear the studio perfection of this song.
The album and song that introduced the world to Steve Howe! ❤
Rick Wakeman and his big cape takes me back to 1972 when they came to town. It's hard to believe all the great bands we could go see back then. All you needed was $5 and a free night.
The YES rabbit hole is the deepest of them all.
Blimey these were such amazing musicians. Lucky to have been brought up with these talented people who I just took for granted.
One of the best videos of Yes bassist Chris Squire is from this same film, Yessongs. "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish" features Chris on "The Fish." His playing in concert was legendary, and he is missed. Yessongs is a great concert movie by one of the two or three most interesting bands in music. Thanks for playing live Yes!
I saw them twice in the 70's. To date, they are the best shows I've ever seen and I've been to many. When it comes to progressive, they are beyond compare. They have influenced so many bands.. my absolute favorite...
Incredible song.
In my opinion one of the all time great bands, I just love them, always have!!!
I was graced to see them perform "Disgrace" on 3 separate occasions
Jeolous😅
The studio version is the way to go.
Yes is one of the deepest prog rabbit holes. The solo albums from the members are all worth checking out. I especially love Bill Bruford's jazz fusion period.
Squire is having so much fun here.
What an incredible band! Thanks again guys for playing this work of genius!
I've been listening to Yes and Zeppelin more than everything else put together since the 70's, those two bands were on another level though completely different in style and technique.
Great. But love the studio recording best.
This Album was my first Yes Album, age 15 in 1971.
I’ll be seeing Jon Anderson Live, in less than 48 hours, in London.
He’s 78 now and still sounds incredible.
🎶❤️🎶
Shame Yes kicked him out. Though it allows them to play the drama stuff which people wanted to hear for many years
You guys are on fire today! My favorite Yes song, but the sound quality here is really bad. Highly recommend checking out the studio version to get full appreciation of the song. Great stuff! Thanks guys
Only got to see them once, in 1979. They were incredible!
One of my favorites.
FINALLY !!! This is a banger !!!! Glad you got here !!!
This is from the Close to the Edge Tour; the fall and winter of 1972-73. I just started my freshman year at Morehouse and a friend convinced me to check them out. After this concert I became a lifelong fan of Yes. I was profoundly impressed with the viruosity of the members of group; but Steve Howe was an absolute beast!
One of my favorite Yes songs!! So excited you reacted to it!
Thanks for taking me back 40 plus years when I last saw Yes live and I had long hair! That was psychedelic jazz progressive with special guest appearance by Gandalf on keyboards! 🙃
Dude, I saw this! It don't get no better EVER EVER EVER
Steve Howe is incredible, Chet Atkins was his primary Influence. Saw YESSONGS in the theater 5 times when it came out, ON ACID the first time haha..
If you can believe it, they opened up for Black Sabbath on some parts of this Tour in the US. Please do "AND YOU AND I" as well the BEST version you'll ever hear..
YES and Sabbath on the same billing? Sigh... glad I caught both of them though on their own
@@Zennofobic Yep haa, awesome huh!
I know several older guys who saw the tour. Was just reading Geezer Butlers recent book, he talks about it. He said they did not get along with YES. Said they were snobby Londoner's, except for Rick Wakeman. Said he was cool and kind of a drunk haa...that's why he ended up playing on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Cheers
I've loved Yes for 47 yrs., have seen them 5 times in concert and they still send a bolt of lightening up my spine everytime I hear them!
That was fantastic!
RIP Chris Squire, you were a true virtuoso. You'll forever be in our hearts. 💕 😢
Best band, ever. Period.
Espetacular.
Yay YES!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Killer performance. I had the privilege of seeing them live back in the day more than once. They were incredible.
I am now 71 years old and I saw Yes on this very tour because I recognize their clothes. To this day I have NEVER heard a band play such difficult arrangements with such perfection. Head and shoulders the best concert I ever saw and no one was in their league and I saw every band imaginable. You don't see many bands playing YES songs because they aren't good enough musicians. By the way guys...keep up your Steely Dan journey. You won me over with your appreciation of all of their music library. Fagen and Becker were my favorites from the first time I heard "Do It Again" sometime in 1973!
Excellent musicianship
Yes has or had a concert movie I went to back in the day. It was played at midnight and I saw it when I was young and it blew me away. Thanks I like watching your reaction videos it brings me back to my younger days and it give me reason to revisit this stuff and you both do a really good job of breaking it down and I am even learning new stuff about the music I never even thought of!
WOW!!! One of my favorite songs, and this live version clearly kills an awesome studio version.
Had rewind that lunacy to fully digest it man I’m full
Th were incredible "In the Round"!
Still amazed when I put that album on. For drummers, Bruford's snare is killer, on the lp, that is.
The live version of this from the Union tour is a must watch
Seen the band live 3 times and they blew the roof off every time!
This is no question a great performance, but the audio leaves a lot to be desired. This is one time that I wish that you had reacted to the studio version. Steve Howe’s guitar solo isn’t on it, but I think you would’ve gotten a better overall feel for the track. But regardless, the performance here is outstanding! I’ve seen Yes 25 times over the decades, and I never felt cheated! In fact, the first time I saw them was in November of 1972. About a month prior to this performance.
For me, Yes is the most elite prog band of all time. Off the charts musicianship. And of course Rick Wakeman has the greatest Rock and Roll HOF acceptance speech of all time.
Rush for me, but Geddy is a huge Yes fan, so I'm not hating your bias at all. It's all good!!
I like the King Crimson lineup for Red and Discipline better
I love Rush, saw them live many times, and have total respect for them.
@@tektoniks_architects Love Rush too (saw both bands live) but agree with your assessment of Yes. Considered the definitive prog rock band for good reason, they had a peerless balance of memorable melodies, rockin' riffs, vocal harmonies and virtuosity without forsaking groove.
Chris Bass has this crazy rumble to it.Hard
Squire!!
@@Greg-io1ipkinda fits though…
“Chris Bass”!!!! 😅😅😅😅
@@Greg-io1ip indeed
@@Rock_SnobI meant Chris's bass.. LoL but yeah we can all use some more Chris Bass
They were so great live!!!
They were!!
You just had to be there. ❤
This is what is known as virtuosity of musicianship. Although not a very clear recording of this fine band it nonetheless represents them live. I have seen them on numerous occasions and they never disappoint…
Sway by the Rolling Stones. Beautiful song.. Sooo many good Stones song all before 1974.
The OG prog band of the 70s and 80s. Thanks guys. take care.
This has to be one of the earliest live performances of this song. Regarding Steve Howe's guitar solo on the studio version, Wikipedia says: "Howe built up the guitar parts using overdubs, which was a new experience to him. Howe stated that he created "a 'studioized' solo because it was made up in different sections. I became three guitarists."
Tampa Stadium, 1973..maybe the best show that I ever saw...
Was there...didn't they have Steely Dan as a warmup act, wearing convict costumes? Didn't they play Topographic Tales?
Yes at the Rainbow Theater in 72 Live. This is legendary video. Another great reaction Gentlemen 👏
You guys listening to Yes LIVE is exactly what I wanted!❤️🥰👏
70's rock music was all about the electric guitar. it was a big deal to be crowned best guitar player of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Steve Howe won the award five years in a row (1977-1981).
Woh, Yes No Disgrace AND Zep Achilles Last Stand? Probably the studio version of Yes best, but they definitely could Jam their songs in concert. Wasn't some KISS boi band. Yes legit prog monsters!!
Steve Howe won Guitar Magazine's best player 5 years in a row. They retired him after that, so others had a chance to win. He is so under rated & seldom even mentioned on the lists of top guitar players of all time, or at least way down
the list. Yes, that was Chris Squire on the bass. Not sure if that was Bruford or White on the drums.
Steve is The Best! Alan White on drums here!
Yes just announced there US your! Only original member is Steve. As I mentioned I’ve been fortunate to see them live 50+ times and it’s hard to see them with only Steve left! Don’t get me wrong-Jon Davidson, Billy Sherwood, Jeff Downes and Palmeroy I think on drums-all do a great job still playing all our old favs….just not the same!
Dam Steve was hot this concert!!! Woot! He doesn’t always do those solos like that!❤❤❤❤❤
Very raw in parts perhaps down to the recording.Their 2001 Symphonic tour live in Amsterdam with the Dutch youth orchestra is beyond awesome.
R.I.P. Chris R.I.P. Alan
Saw Yes in 1977 at the Forum in LA, in the round where stage slowly rotates in a circle during the performance. Stellar.
Was that the one with Trevor Horn, the Bungles guy. I saw that one too.
Braggart! I am jealous!
@@blitztim6416 - Rick Wakeman
@@Greg-io1ip - don’t be, just means I’m old..
@@BigC. I don’t think you understood my question, but that’s ok.
I saw them live in high school and it was amazing! 😻🎶
OK...I take back my "shame on you" that I placed on ya'll's "Perpetual Change" live audio reaction. But there is so much more YES to explore. An unbelievable band that I was fortunate enough to grow-up with. Thanks for your excellent channel.
This video brings to light the phrase”MTV killed the rock star”. Musicians had to perform, and boy did they.
Holy shit….. you guys are digging deep, “YES” master of Prog Rock….. Thank You 🙏🏻 what’s next ??? Lol Old school “Genesis” 🙏🏻
Great reaction, guys! I saw Yes live during the 90125 tour (pre-internet, pre-you can see whatever you want), but obviously, could not see the guitar mastery of Steve Howe. When compared to the legendary guitarists, it is tough to compare him to anyone. He is his own animal. What an amazing guitar performance. Definitely has the nuances of a classically trained guitarist, but, Wow! I definitely need to see more live performance footage.
I've done a deep dive on all the recordings of former and current Yes band members solo and other side projects and collaborations. The total number of Albums is easily over 1,000, and you haven't reacted to another band called ; Asia which features 2 members of Yes, Steve Howe and Jeff Downes.
I caught them on the 9021Live tour, the Trevor Rabin years. He has some pretty good records too. That era isn't as popular as earlier versions, but that is just a symptom of the 80s. Many bands didn't 80s well, but there's still great music there. The 80s band could play the old stuff note for note, and the overall stage show was better.
loooooove Yes! the material from the next 2 albums (Fragile and Close To The Edge), got better. The "edge" being enlightenment of course (Jon's theme). Thank you!!
Saw them in Indy and their stage was in the round, turned in circles the whole show.. A 3 hour concert!
Saw that tour in Pittsburgh!! 79ish?
First time I've seen this version. Good job boys.
Epically classic!
Not a fan of lots of these live Yes recordings but I get the attraction that they hold for hard core Yes fans. I love Yes, but don’t live and die with them. This sounded muddy but it is what it is. Enjoyed your reaction as always and welcome back from vacation.
Steve Howe on guitar ladies and gentleman, a bad boy indeed
Saw Yes open for Jethro Tull in 1971. I think I paid $5 for that show.
Thanks for the Yes!!! ❤
Awesome live version but Yes in the studio on this is worth checking out as well. They were spot on no matter when I saw them or who was in the band from the early 70s to the mid 90s. One of the top 5 Prog-Rock bands ever in my book, I got to see them, ELP, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and genesis at least a couple times times each back in the 70s in their heyday, memories of a lifetime! They sure don't make music like those bands did anymore, they will be remembered and have adherents like Mozart and Beethoven far into the future, they truly are forever music! Try Epitaph by King Crimson from In the Court of the Crimson King for more greatness. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Well you guys wanted to see them live to see how good the band was ...here is a glimpse of them performing....and Steve and the rest of the members do have songs where they do solos and go off on.....This song featured the legendary guitarist Steve Howe(pronounce "how") improvising and showing off his talents which is considered by music critics worldwide as one of the top guitar players along with Jimmy Hendrix...Stevie Ray Vaugh.....Jimmy Page...Eric Clapton...B. B. King...and Brian May, in Music History. Continue with this album and you will see that all the members cut loose!!!! lol
Steve Howe came out of more of a Country/Western background than the rest of the band. That's what gave this album such a warm feeling. Yes started out as a Jazzy Rock band with Classical ambitions, but Howe made his mark on this LP. The guy in the gold shawl took their "Classical ambition" to the next level. This band was going in so many directions at once, there was no way they could possibly put out anything dull. Well, not until the century was getting old, anyway.
Steve is like a mad scientist on that guitar I seen them on their 50 year tour a few months ago and he still has it
You're right. Steve added the solo part you were talking about. Not on the studio version.
I like when he makes that high chirping sound by using the pick below the bridge.
Steve is just an amazing player. He can play any style.
Did you like the capes?
Fanfreakingtastic.
Ty u2. / On a stage ,
They we’re so badass!!!
Live at the Rainbow 1972!! YESSONGS Released 1973. This is by far the BEST version of YIND because it's LIVE, YES LIVE Beats any recording!!!!❤🎉🎉🎉 The Outro is Phenomenal....Have fun guys, 😅🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is a different version than the one on Yessongs. For my money, that one blows this one away and has somewhat better audio quality as well.
So freakin good guys!
This album is great, one of their best
Steve''s guitar solo is different each time, has similiar beats but it is mostly improvised while live. On Yessongs record album it is still a different one that this video one. That's what I always loved about Yes' live performance - that it was never by the numbers studio version except for being played in front of the audience.
He improvised a long solo here. If you hear the studio version many of these elements are there, but shorter.
Really should listen to the original official release.
Do “ starship troopers” live version once.
I know you already did the studio version but check it out, true masters.
Saw them twice in concert; once in the 70s with this lineup, except for drums. Absolutely amazing. Then again in the 90s when they had Leave It playing on the radio. Very good, but just not the same as the concert experience with that 70s lineup.
