      That hammer design shares some of the 'scrap metal held together with bolts and screws' design seen on the longsword and the hunting horn. Perhaps that's just because they're somewhat early game weapons and when you upgrade it to its final form those parts go away and are replaced with something less cobbled together. Or maybe something else is going on. After all, the greatsword and gunlance didn't seem to have any of that in favor of a 'leather wrapped' theme, and I'm assuming those are 'village tree' weapons. The charge blade is outright 100% a design based on a monster without any of that scrap metal stuff too, so maybe before it's fully upgraded it has some of those scrap metal parts on it and we just happened to see the final version?
      If you ask me, some of these designs really give off the impression of a less technological society coming across the plans for these weapons but they are incomplete or they don't have all of the right materials to make it fully work so they just grab bits that they have access to and bolt it together and hope it works. I seem to remember hearing that the village in Monster Hunter Wilds is going to be rather unfamiliar with the concept of hunting as we know it, so they might not have the proper facilities to make the kind of weapons and armor that the forge in MH5 was able to pump out. Even if the smithy is one that's sent from the guild they still need tools and a workshop to work with, and if the village doesn't have anything of that scale, well, you might just get cobbled together weapons until you upgrade the forge.
      Hell, I'd be okay with 'bits on sticks' being a motif for low rank armor and weapons, then when you get to high rank you get some quests to upgrade the forge so it can make high rank stuff that looks properly made.

    Honestly, it seems like every weapon is going to be a progression of either the Bone or Ore tree.
    It seems like Wilds is going to have more uniqueness for every weapon, but they're all going to stem from either bone or ore. As the weapons get upgraded, more and more monster parts may be added to really make the weapon seem like it's fully bespoke.
    The difference between World and Wilds seems to be that Wilds will have more bespoke designs as the *very base* for certain monsters' weapons, and then those weapons can evolve even further.
    Doshaguma's weapons don't have any of Dosha's fur on them, which is different from other monsters. Chatacabra's IG uses bone as a base as well, but the designs are still bespoke to the monster.
    It really seems like there will be an old-school style of tree where every monster's weapon will be a direct upgrade of either the Bone or Ore trees.

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  2 месяца назад +1

      I can actually see that happening which will end up fine at the end of the day. Since a lot what people have an issue with is when the final designs don't look that different from the beginning designs.

    One thing that makes it clear to me that the Chatacabra Insect glaive isn't a bits on sticks design is that the blade, part of the supposed generic weapon base, somewhat resembles a frog pelvis. And that seems too specific for the weapon of a frog monster to be a generic part that could be used on a bunch of other weapons.

  • @willglorian

    I think slap on weapons are fine as long as they're only on the first level on a said weapon and mainly in low rank. Like at first, the blacksmiths slap the monsters parts to get its effects, but then get a real "unique" design or design evolution to fully bring the monster's identity in the final weapon.
    Example, Anjanath has a lot of unique weapons, but they make up some shity slap on designs like LBG and Rise's DB, but I think Iceborne nine ring bone sword design goes well with him, he just needs a bit of uniqueness to its design. something like a pinkish blabe with the black fur on the ringed back blade.

    As I saw your video in my notifications, I returned to World to try the Iceborne Dual Blades. When I started augmenting these weapons, I came to the conclussion that I preferred most slap-on designs over most of the original designs. The only exception for the Dual Blades are the Clubs that Jyuaratados and Diablos got.
    So if they gave us slap-on designs and give us the layered option to change the base and parts again, I might be more excited than seeing all originals. Since I like a simple detail change over a badly designed original weapon.
    In Sunbreak I kind of had the same problem with always going for just a single weapon design and keeping that for the rest of my run. Like using the Teddy Bear or Basarios head as my Hammer for at least 80% of all my Hammer runs. Sword and Shield was the same with the Mizutsune variant. Plus the DLC weapons I bought seemed to get more usage than 90% of all their original design weapons.

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  2 месяца назад +1

      @@Jaycan The fluffy monster weapons. Mainly the Khezu LBG, Goss Harag Dual Blades and Mizu Heavy Bowgun were the ones I bought.
      The Fluffy Bowguns both had all their details removed and just gained a lengthened monster plushy. I overused these 2 just because I'm not that into those special handles and how these weapons look when sheathed. The Tigrex and suitcase HBG and Beetle HBG's were the only guns for me that looked good when sheathed, while all other bespoke designs looked weird. But that's mainly because they fold the bowguns. If they didn't fold the bowguns, I might consider more bespoke designs.

  • @Zulban48

    I can excuse a 'cobbled together' design if they introduced some kind of new mechanic. First I want to point out that in Iceborne you were able to layer weapons when you augment them, but when you do you have three different layering options. The first two you can layer 'parts' which are the grip and hilt and non-attacky parts of the weapon, and second is the 'blade' or the part of the weapon that actually deals the damage. The third kind of layering is using the unique designs that doesn't use the 'slap-on' system to begin with so it wouldn't work with the other two kinds. The point here is that using the 'bits on sticks' system you have the option to change the appearance of two different parts of the weapon.
    Now on to what I'm getting at: if the weapons are going to use base World design philosophy with the 'bits on sticks' then what if instead of whole upgrade paths for entire weapons we have upgrade paths for the different parts of the weapon? You could upgrade the grip of the weapon along the Rathalos path and have the blade be upgraded along the Tigrex path, just as an example. It would still look dumb but at least the visuals would match with the weapon, and in late game we're going to be layering over everything anyways.

      Appreciate you correcting my mistake we did have layered in Iceborne! That’s super intricate and would allow for more player expression for sure. • @kyweasel12

    Because of the unfinished weapon designs, it spawned the concept of Layered Weapons, which I genuinely hate because it was a band-aid fix to what shouldn't have been in the first place, and as a result, Layered Weapons I feel will be a staple and I genuinely don't want them to, they only exist because of World's mistake, Rise went back to the unique designs, they then gave us Layered Weapons but ONLY for the Rampage weapons, which I was totally ok with since they were the customizable weapons, it made sense, then people begged and complained and now look what happened, it just makes me sad man, I want weapons to go back to their unique flair and never see layered weapons again...

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  2 месяца назад +1

      I'm in the camp that player choice is almost always good. If you dislike layered weapons then don't use them this is how I made my mistake and forgot that Iceborne had layered weapons because I never used them haha. I wouldn't want to take away from others who feel they need to use layered weapons or armor because the stats and skills they want are on armors or weapons they don't find appealing. I understand where you're coming from though you want it to feel like you never even have to use the layered weapons.

      @@Jaycan I will say that I'm OK with SOME layered weapons, like the Plush weapons, other than that, I still wish they were actual weapons, but I'm fine with them being the only type of layered weapons that we get, also wouldn't mind customizable weapons akin to the Rampage weapons being the only ones that can be layered in Wilds as well, but if they're here to stay then I can't keep complaining, it just pains me of how they came to be, or why they were even made in the first place, but it is what it is at the end of the day

  • @Manawolf25

    I think I'd be better to avoid creating more slap on design/bits on sticks weapons. We already had evolving weapon designs with the weapons still having the personality of the monsters. 4U is a good game to see this. To put this into perspective, even great jaggi sns had an evolving design for its weapon. You can look into other monsters such as rathalos, zinogre, seltas queen/seltas, zamtrios, and more. Not every weapon git an evolving design, but there were a good amount that did. If you want a crazy evolution design for a weapon, go from the zinogre sns to the lagiacrus sns. They can do the idea of evolving weapon designs with actually good looking weapons from the start. I don't think lowering the standards to subpar designs at the start just to eventually getting something good around the middle to end game.
    We'll have to wait and see once the game comes out, and we can see what the rest of the weapons look like. I personally don't think that the chatacabra is a slap on design, especially since I don't remember that blade design in either rise or world for the ig. It's also not the first metal/bone weapon combined with monster parts and very likely not to be the last, once again great jaggi and other early game monsters have this. The difference is how much of the monster parts are actually a part of the weapon. Then you get some weapons like mizutsune and tetsucabra that are more stylized versions of more classical weapon design for some of the weapons they have.

      I feel ya a perfectly reasonable take on the whole thing. I just saw enough of a hubbub online and decided to make this video about it. At the end of the day I'll be a little bummed, but it won't stop me from enjoying this game and making content about it to interact with more people just like you!

    I'm personally not worried since the Chatacabre glaive looks nothing like a slap on.
    It doesn't look remotely like the bone glaive or the iron glaive. Look it up right now, and you'll see it's a unique glaive. The only glaives that resemble it are the high level iron slap ons, and even they have only a slightly similar blade shape, with a different blade length and material and the rest of the weapon being different.
    If you think the Chatacabre glaive looks boring, that's fair, though I personally like it. But it is very likely unique.

But what I don't fet about the worry there is that if we dont know what the 'stick' looks like... what's there to be afraid of? That could just be what the Chatacabra IG looks like.
    Plus, we gotta remember the difference between Wilds' and World's development situation. Wilds is post blow-up for the series, World was a shot at getting to that blow-up. They now have a BIG reason to sink in more effort...but we'll see

    I’m confident they’re not going to return - Capcom is decently aware of what the playerbase likes and dislikes. Case in point - the absence of rampage quests in Sunbreak. Besides, this game is a much higher budget production than World, which was built upon an engine held together by rickety boards and glue, so I feel like we can expect them to go all out this time around.

But with all due respect for it, you could tell that MHW was really pushing the poor thing to its limits - its age did slightly hold the game back technologically, forcing Capcom into cutting a few corners here and there, which is why I don’t think this has or will be continuing into RE Engine-age MH.

    (TL;DR: there are so many different looking weapons to make for each weapon that it would take a lot of time to make them all look unique and different. They should focus on giving powerful monsters unique weapons and not weak monsters like chatacabra.)
    I dont really understand the hate behind slap on weapons, yeah they’re unoriginal but what did you expect? I counted how many types some weapons have in rise and they all had numbers in the 60s, some in the. 70 s. 60 times 14 is 840, but all of the weapons I counted were way over 60, so they’d have to make like 1000 special weapons completely different from each other and that’d take a lot of time and effort to do, especially when you could just put equip a layered weapon and fix the issue. I just don’t get it. They should instead give the powerful monsters interesting looking weapons instead of the weak monsters like chatacabra.

    Honestly, while I love Worl/Iceborne as a game, slap-on weapon design is the laziest shit, especially from a VERY heavily funded studio of a multibillion dollar company. It's one thing if MH was part of a smaller company making games, but this is CAPCOM, dude. I'm not saying that even early weaker monsters should have fully unique weapons, but at least the middle or end of the upgrade path for each monster. And the weapon layering system isn't an excuse for this, as only certain weapons could be layered! So players had to resort to mods for their weapons, and sometimes even armor (though that was more rare) to look amazing because of lazy design.

      @Jaycan  2 месяца назад

      At the time or World’s development MH was much smaller so they probably put less money into the project simply because they didn’t expect the kind of success they got. Now we’re here at Wilds where the Franchise has back to back 15million + titles. Let’s see what they do this time!

    what the heck are... slap on weapons?

      I suppose I didn’t actually explain it did I? If you look at this video’s thumbnail you see how I’ve got the Brachydios DBs from World on it? Those DB are the same basic early DBs but they have a little bit of Brachydios parts “slapped on” near the handle. Vs the other design which is something completely unique.

      @@Jaycan Ah I see, yeah I hope they do complete ones, but if not we'll have mods at least

    There has always been slap-on weapons really, its just that world did a horrible job.
    like, calling a great sword with 2 rathalos plates a "rathalos great sword" is stupid. those dual blades could be the base bone ones, like how the bow that was showcased today, looked pretty much like a base bow.

      Ah yea for sure. A lot of people in this very comment section have mentioned that having slap-on as the final level was really the biggest problem they had. Oh for sure they could just be base bone blades still gotta wait and see!

      For the brand new monsters of their respective games I kinda agree! Though it is a matter of preference.

    Delightful, obvious rage bait title for an 8 minute video where nothing of substance was said

      I posed the title as a question because we’re still not sure. Explained why we’re even talking about it in the first place. Went over why it won’t be an issue since we have layered weapons now. Talked about the possibility of future event quests giving layered weapons out as a reward. Appreciate the delightful comment! did you thumbs down the video too?

      It's a catfish. I don't think it has thumbs. Or a brain for that matter

    God I hope not. One of the low points of world, honestly.

      We have seen some cool designs already, but hey its a small possibility. Ultimately we still have to wait and see!
