This week we get to know about Caribbean music for the first time, Starting with Dennis Brown and his super wavy live perfoamnce of "Milk & Honey" Followed by the amazing collaboration done by NAS and Damian Jr Gong Marley and their awesome track "As We Enter". We got the party started with Mavado and his hit "Caribbean Girls" and continued the party with Machel Montano and his super catchy track "Mr Fete" and to finish it all off we checked out Kalash and his drama filled music video for "TAKEN" and God wasI invested hehe. Overall, an amazing, fun podcast!👏

I'm glad you guys checked out Dennis Brown, he was and still is super popular in the reggae scene despite passing away. He started singing at 9 since he was always surrounded by music and I'm pretty sure he released his first song at 11. He really peaked in the 70s and was given the name 'The Crown Prince of Reggae' due to his impact and influence on the genre yet he remained humble. Dennis was a very respected and talented artist, a lot of other artists look up to him for inspiration so I hope you get to check out more from him (:

Also Mavado is a legend in the dancehall scene in Jamaica
So It's pronounce Ma like ma-ma, Chel like shell ( sea shell) Montano and A fete ( the last e is silent) is basically a concert we have here in the Caribbean where it can range from like huge venue or very medium size venues and they usually have live artist or a DJ or both. The main idea of a Fete is to party and have fun and drink with your friends leading up to Carnival. Carnival is Caribbean festival celebrating the emancipation of slavery in the Caribbean and we celebrate with merriment and costumes and music and of course RUM! lol But fetes are kinda like pre game parties before carnival. I also would like mention Machel is a household name in the caribbean. Literally EVERYONE here knows of Machel Montano. And the genre is called Soca ( Soul + Calypso). Soca is on another level and we play soca literally every carnival
Soca came from calypso but is different. I would recommend checking out big tracks like Famalay, Run wid it by Mr Killa, Conch She'll by W.C.K.
I'm so happy actually I never expected for them to react to Kalash I was so shocked. I can't believe it. And in Martinique we speak French and creole.
If you ever do another carribean special or just want to listen to more music I suggest the soca artist voice, olatunji, chronixx, lyrikal, kranium and many others

Machel pronounced Mash-el, dues Soca music, which is a combination of Calypso and other styles together.
Machel Montano's music is considered soca music which is very prevalent in a lot of carribean countries

In Trinidad and Tobago we have a lot of french and spanish words we still use because of colonization that we still use because of colonization so fete( pronounced fet) means party also the machel montano song is soca which is a combination of calypso (afro trinidadian) and indo trinidadion (music from india)

yes please do a part 2 and include my country Haiti one artist i will 4 ever love our prior president Michel Martelly was a singer before becoming president after the big earthquake in 2011 till 2016 we call him the artist sweet Micky. He sings it all and in multiple language including in Spanish with Julio Iglesias a long time ago.

Dennis brown does reggae authentic original reggae .reggae was created originated in jamaica. Everything else resembling reggae like reggaton for example is an offspring of the original reggae creayed in jamica.. Dennis Brown is called the prince of reggae Bob marley is known as the kong..
I started listening more to technos and kinda liking it lately . I kinda thought of you two since I think you can also do these type of music and be great with it. Sometimes it can open a new venture and lifestyle and new experience. Just need a nice lyrics and beats.

What’s up Fam! Do a reaction to Rocket Easy by Rudemon. It’s Polynesian reggae, better known as Poly Reggae.
So I’m Jamaican and I just wanted to clear things up a bit.
Ska actually started as big band music in 40s and 50s. These local bands would play the one drop beat that we know as reggae today. It’s literally an African drum beat inverted.
The difference is that the reggae today is more stripped down less live instruments like the horn section you see in the first video. But today’s reggae almost always has a keyboardist to create different sounds for tracks.
One of the reasons Latin music might sound the same is we all use African drum beats and other folk instruments created to mimic African instruments in the new world.
- You could say our base is the same but our toppings are different.
No, Ska was created in Jamaica, the only thing Jamaican Ancestors brought from Africa is the drum beat, that was the only thing there when they did. Ska is not just drum beat and is not even Jamaica's first music genre. You're not a Jamaican to not know this

You guys needs to research better before you comment, like all music it revolves, the Michael mantono fete is calypso that evolve into its hybrid call soca. And just so you know, the regulation beat is really a soca beat that reggae took and slowed down. So it's really should have been called socaton.
