Just adding my 2-cents coming late to comments. I am 65 years young this year, and this was one of my favorite songs starting way back in 1975 when I was 16 yrs old. And to this day, it remains on of my favorites. It brings back so many great memories. Especially when I started dating my girlfriend in '75, I proposed to her in 1979, got married in 1980, and we have been married ever since! To us, songs from the 1970's are some of our very favorites.

Explanation for non-Brits out there - In the '70s The Old Grey Whistle Test was a weekly late night show on UK TV, it was about our only access to current music other than mainstream pop and introduced a lot of people to artists they might otherwise never hear of. I clearly remember watching this live set from TOMD in 1974 and being blown away by it. I went out and bought the album later, but at the time I recorded it from the TV with a microphone onto a mono cassette recorder. We didn't have VCRs back then, it beats me where people get this stuff to post here but thanks Cobraman115 for reawakening this fond memory!

I wouldn't call the Daredevils a "one hit wonder." This one charted fairly high by comparison to their other singles but their first big hit was "If Ya Wanna Get to Heaven" which was a pretty cool, grungey rocker. They also had a really pretty tune from the "Car Over the Lake" album, "If I Only Knew," which also features their drummer's silky high vocals. It sounds almost Beatlesque. I highly recommend it.

yeah,,but did these songs make the top 40 like this one.....I've never heard of them....I'm in the music business and have been for 42 years...my dad was a rock singer with 13 singles and two albums..I personally have been going to rehearsals, gigs and sessions at the record plant in n.y.c since I was 5... I know the music business and the business of music....two entirely different entities.....for a band to be a complete success like let's say kiss..you have to have at least 3 to 4 follow up albums in the can that are as good or hopefully better than your first...I mention kiss because paul and gene are extremely smart and astute businessmen with a knack for writing generic music I call ear candy and always have their follow ups already done....with that said....just because they do business this way does not mean the music will meet or exceed your expectations.....nine times out of ten it won't..but unfortunately unlike mcdonald's where if you buy a lousy cheeseburger you can take it back and get another one that will be better..,once you plop your money on the counter of your favorite record store and buy the next kiss album... if you take it home and it sucks....you don't have the recourse of taking it back and getting a better one or your money back...your hit....you own it and they get paid....that's the business of music my dear.....that's the reality of it....

@@rogerkoob9904 Gee, I just love it when a male mansplains things to me in a confident, patronizing way. It makes me feel all tingly all over, like a schoolgirl and then I wanna lay down and spread my legs for some reason, dunno why...
      NOT!!!
Jesus Rog, LOSE THE PATRONIZING TONE, YA TESTOSTERONE-ADDLED FUCKWIT! I've been playing music professionally since 1975. I have over a quarter million road miles. I've spent hundreds of hours in pro studios, as a hired gun or working with my own bands, RECORDING, not "hangin' around" and watching.
Yes, you dumb arrogant male, the first two OMD albums made it into the Top 40 albums list, two of their singles made it it into the Top 40 singles list, including this one which made it to NUMBER THREE.
Just because you ain't never heard of 'em doesn't mean they never existed or weren't significant enough for you to notice. WHAT a fucked-up attitude! "Well, I never heard of them so they must have been nothin'!" DO YOUR HOMEWORK, YA PUTZ!
What the hell do YOU do in the music business? You an agent? A promoter? You sound like one. You sure as hell don't sound like a player, a pro who's learned respect for his superiors. Whenever I hear a male sneering, I can usually hear all the envy and spite in his voice too and, bubba, you sound like a thirteen year old smart-ass trash-talkin' for the lolz.
I don't effin' NEED a snotty, mean-mouthed male to tell me ANYTHING. I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you put a sock in it and start listening instead of running your all-wise, all-knowing mouth? Your response wasn't an opinion, a comment, or even just a careless addendum. It was a fuckin' sneering, patronizing lecture. The last male who did that to my face still finds it hard to chew and he limps, courtesy of yours truly. Wanna try for two in a row?
On the other hand, I may block you. Just for the lolz.

for one thing....I am not trying to sound arrogant or snotty....if that's the way you took it..my deepest apologies....my.point was not to slag the band...I love this band and their music....my point was to try to explain the difference between the music business and the business of music......if I sounded like an asshole it certainly was NOT my intent...I wrote a guitar instructional column for a music magazine in new York....I've been a guitarist for 42 years.in bands.and studio work...I had.my own bands in both ct. and boston playing with berklee cats....so it's not my first gig by any stretch......but I was just trying to make an example of how the.business of music works....that was my only.reason for what I said...I am not an asshole.i happen to be a really nice guy but when it comes to music it's no hobby...its my life and.my passion....sometimes I have the issue of coming off a little heavy handed......it is not.my intent....I like to try to educate people who aren't in the business how it works....because 90% of the record buying public has no idea how.it works.....that's why I used kiss as an example...not trying to slag them either..I am a huge kiss fan,,,I've seen them 3 times and I love their music....I've met paul and gene and I know how they do business....it doesn't make them bad people...it makes them very smart and in this business that will eat you up alive you need to have the business accumen to be a success....if not you end up in the cut out bin....so please accept my heartfelt apologies for coming off like an asshole and insulting you....believe me it was not my intent to insult you..on the contrary ,,I was trying to explain how this business works.....that's all....again if I came off arrogant and heavy handed my sincerest apologies and I do hope you will accept them.....I'm sorry.....sometimes I take for granted that some people do know how this business works...my bad....and I hope you will accept my most sincerest apologies for coming off like a jerk.....I'm just a musician like you all and it was never my intent to slag either band....peace..

I agree with other comments that I could listen to the guitar solo over and over and perfect tasty pocket from the percussion and the keyboards also filled the spaces awesomely. I have a new appreciation for this group after hearing them perform this live. I would be scared to death to pull this off as a cover...almost nobody could which is the true mark of a unique band.

The term "one hit wonder" always had a negative connotation to it; a song everybody loved for a month and then were embarrassed to admit it afterwards. I would much rather listen to the "bad" music of the 70's than the "good" music of today.

A great deal of the music of today back in the day.
My dad would refer to as screaming senseless BS and I'm cleaning it up.
he would been speaking about my AC/DC at the time.
Today I know I sound quite a bit like my dad and I'm great with that.

Remember seeing headlights hitting complete whiteout and my mom was freaking out about the weather. My dad was singing this while I was slapping my knees going along with the song. Weird to remember that so vividly but I do....good times. Found an original vinyl down in Tennessee and my son now listens to them as well.

    Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives her life from inside of her room
Hides a smile when she's wearin' a frown
Ooh, Jackie you're not so down
You like your life in a free-form style
You'll take an inch but you'd love a mile
There never seems to be quite enough
Floating around to fill your lovin' cup
    Ooh, Jackie Blue
What's a game girl, if you never lose?
Ask a winner and you'll probably find
Ooh, Jackie they've lost at sometime
Don't try to tell me that you're not aware
Of what you're doing and that you don't care
You say it's easy, just a natural thing
Like playing music, but you never sing
    Ooh, Jackie Blue
Making wishes that never come true
Going places that you've never been
Ooh, Jackie Blue, you're going again
    Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives a dream that can never come true
Making love is like sifting through sand
Ooh, Jackie, it slips through your hand
Every day, in your indigo eyes
I watch the sunset but I don't see it rise
Moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine
You'd take the world but you won't take the time
    Ooh-hoo-hoo, Jackie Blue
Lives her life from inside of a room
Makes you think that her life is a drag
Ooh Jackie, what fun you have had
    Ooh, Jackie
    Ooh, Jackie
    Ooh, Jackie
    Ooh, Jackie
    Hey, hey, hey, hey

Don L ... I'm not sure if the mention of Prince is derogatory. I used to make fun of him because he put on such a sissyish appearance. His songs didn't appeal to me since my tastes ran toward hard rock, the harder, the better. As time went by, I started extending my listening. Video music helped a bunch. Prince was an extremely talented musician who I learned to appreciate very late in his career. His demise was somewhat unexpected, but not too surprising.

My buddy and I walked down there hoping to hear the concert from the sidewalk but ended up knowing the ticket taker and he let us in for free. It was too cool, brings back great memories.
