Yes, these were the days when the BBC made some quirky or unusual shows (for their time) which weren't aimed at a mass audience. Sir David Attenborough, the well known wildlife film maker and narrator, gave the go ahead for The Old Grey Whistle Test ( and Monty Python) when he was in charge of the BBC2 TV channel. It quickly became a popular and influential show with mainly younger viewers who were interested in music and bands which didn't normally feature in the singles charts. These guys, O.M.D. was a great band that never got the national recognition they deserved. Saw them live at Marietta Collage in the mid seventys. Also saw the original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at the same venue also. Great times, great shows, great music.
Old guitar picker here and I was born and raised in the Ozark Mountains. I've had the "privilege" of playing with a few of these guys and have heard Supe perform and read his wonderful book " It Shined " One of the greatest folk rock groups ever and sorely underrated. R.I.P. Steve Cash.
Excellent book, very long but having known only "Heaven" and "Jackie" for decades, I learned a lot from it and now that I know most of the songs, going thru it again, maybe to the point where Chowning leaves which is about halfway thru the book.
In the 70s I used to drive a company car that had a faulty cassette player that wouldn't eject the cassette. At the time I was going to gigs watching punk bands (in London) and the cassette that was stuck in the machine was The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, this was further from punk than Stravinsky was from the Bay City Rollers and I hated it but it was the only thing I could listen to and every time I drove that car I would listen to it and I began to appreciate it and eventually loved it. I still liked punk but my musical education went up a notch. Great band.
Most bands have 1 *good* singer, not 8 !! I had Nirvana-Nevermind, then Clapton-Slowhand, then Kris Kristofferson-Greatest. All stuck for four to six mths each. Still LOVE 'em all...... G.P. , Medicine Hat, Alberta.........
Gotta love OMD. My father put me on to this band and I loved them from the get-go. This takes me back to my childhood. I grew up on this kind of music...… I wore out my parents album listening to "Chicken Train" (thankyou Tyson) and still love it to this day.
The first time I heard Chicken Train, I thought these guys are nuckin futs! But the song grows on you. You can't be down in the dumps after singing Chicken Train!
The Eagles are a legend and great harmonies and songs. So is Little River Band But..... in my book OMD in their prime as they are here for instance are the very top and nothing ever has or will ever match their songs or sound.
They've got that family type bond, like Lynard Skynyrd. You know they'll always be friends for life. A promoter can't just put a band together like that. They have to grow up together.
Loved these guys then and still. Just a great band with extremely talented musicians who play multiple instruments, both modern and classics from hundreds of years ago. Amazing. And their voices both solo and harmonizing just makes my heart happy.
As close as we ever got to The Band again. What a super group of musicians. I grew up on "It'll shine..." and still listening. These guys are savagely underrated...
forgotten greats, a lot of people dont even no who that are, I'm sure glad to have found these forgotten classics, what some killier songs, rock on OMD!!!
I went to a boarding school. One term in `76 I found a copy of `Itll shine when it shines` in a bin. I still have it. For my birthday a few months later I got `The car over the lake album` and it went from there! For a kid weaned on early Bowie, Led Zep, Floyd etc. that was some departure, but the Ozarks have always had a kind of cult following in this great music hall we call the UK, and I joined it.
Was looking for a song from my youth "Jackie Blue" found THIS, what an absolute joy of a discovery, great band great music! Just glorious from the first note to the last - Gary
This was filmed about a year after I was fortunate enough to see them live at CMSU in Warrensburg, Missouri. Also saw them at the Uptown in KC in the 80s. Thanks guys from a fellow "Show-me" native son.
+Joe Hartley I saw them in 95 Larry Lee and Randle Chowning were missing, But I had Cash, Dillion, and Supe sign my It'll Shine when It shines album, One of the best bands of all time, No doubt.
Saw them over 10 times in 70's. One concert stood out. A band called Mission Mountain Wood Band from Montana ooened ip and they were smoking. I believe it was Supe came out and said where the hell did that band from Montana come from. They then proceeded to kick ass even taking requests from thr audience. Unbelievable night
What is this, man?! I just can't help but watching this show every other day for the last three weeks... Every song is a musical jewel... Thinking about picking up 2 or 3 and cover them with my band, down here in Brazil...
Dazzwidd In the late 90's They released all they're albums on CD, I was lucky enough to get them all, They have a fan club where you can get all there CD's, If you want I can try to find It ?
I first listened to them in 1976, I was 16. Instantly loved them and bought there albums as did my friends. We were all young pot smoking hippies back in the day. Funny thing is, us high kids weren’t from southern USA. We were from a small country town in Australia. Boy did we listen to great music for country kids in Australia. Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels Band, Little Feet, Allman Brothers, Roy Buchanan, and on and on. 😂 What times we had.
I'm in my sixties, (um think of a Beatles song from Sgt. Peppers). Of all the decades I've lived in, for me, the 70's was the best musically. And a big part of it was all the great Southern bands including this one.
..pure A M E R I C A N vibes !! During that time, THIS particular band had not only the most ORIGINAL; but also the "tightest, perfectionist/meticulous", clarity within their rhythm and harmony of ANY other band within their musical realm; whatever you want to label it..I'm gratefully glad to have recognized their talent from that time till now, (h.s.class75)..Hearing/seeing this video after so many years, somehow actually restored a modicum of long lost pride in our country..Many thanks boys !
I saw them twice...first time in Georgetown DC. Small venue and I remarked to my friends....their roadies look rough!...lmao...when the group took the stage I realized it was them.......great band!
I got to see them live July, 2015 at the Ozarks Amphitheater - great stuff. I thought the place would be packed but it was sadly a sparse crowd. You people are missing out on the legend.
My cousin was in a band where he'd play guitar and harmonica on If You Want to Get To Heaven. It was nearly spot on (considering his band was a three-piece)

what a mult talented band! the drummer's a great singer too. they had a bunch of real special songs
Man this brings back some memories. Never seen a show this long before. Forgot how good they were
A great way to spend 42 minutes. Thanks OMD!
@@philliplong7873 lynard skynard, hates each other, most have died without speaking for years, I love them but at the same time they act pathetic
Loved these guys then and still. Just a great band with extremely talented musicians who play multiple instruments, both modern and classics from hundreds of years ago. Amazing. And their voices both solo and harmonizing just makes my heart happy.
@@georgegwynn2616 you are right. The ones still alive never speak except through agent or attorney. Pathetic example to humanity.
That E.E.LAWSON got me hooked
As close as we ever got to The Band again. What a super group of musicians.
I grew up on "It'll shine..." and still listening. These guys are savagely underrated...
Kirksville, Mo. 1978 wow..they sounded just like this.
Such a great performance. Brings back so many happy memories of my late teens.
forgotten greats, a lot of people dont even no who that are, I'm sure glad to have found these forgotten classics, what some killier songs, rock on OMD!!!
great forgotten song, love hearing old songs nobody listings to anymore
I went to a boarding school. One term in `76 I found a copy of `Itll shine when it shines` in a bin. I still have it. For my birthday a few months later I got `The car over the lake album` and it went from there!
For a kid weaned on early Bowie, Led Zep, Floyd etc. that was some departure, but the Ozarks have always had a kind of cult following in this great music hall we call the UK, and I joined it.
OMD speaks from the heart. I get a lot of inspiration from them even 40 years later.
God Bless
Jackie blue ' 1 fantastic song from the day it was released to now never stop playing it, music at its best.
One of my favourite groups from the 70's to now... Some superb songs...
Was looking for a song from my youth "Jackie Blue" found THIS, what an absolute joy of a discovery, great band great music! Just glorious from the first note to the last - Gary
Oh boy ! What a show !
What a HD quality for this '76 show !
Never thought I'd see this show here!
Love them. Thank you!
I haven't heard of these fellows in along time they still sound great 😅😅😅
Seen these guys in concert in 76-blew me away!!!!!!!!!!
wow...forgot how good these guys are
What a talented band. Thanks for sharing this classic yet hidden gem.
Well said. Capitalize your name.It is important.
Thanks for giving an giving and giving, Steve. R.I.P.
This was filmed about a year after I was fortunate enough to see them live at CMSU in Warrensburg, Missouri. Also saw them at the Uptown in KC in the 80s. Thanks guys from a fellow "Show-me" native son.
NightSkyGuy I saw them in 73 when I was 22
+Joe Hartley I saw them in 95 Larry Lee and Randle Chowning were missing, But I had Cash, Dillion, and Supe sign my It'll Shine when It shines album, One of the best bands of all time, No doubt.
First heard these guys when a young man starting my forestry career at Manjimup, Western Australia 1977. Loved them ever since!
So much better than 40 years ago Excellent musicians Cherish the memories you all have given me
Went to see these guys Liverpool 76. What a group all sing great and great musicians
Amazing talent! Thank you so much!
These fellows and these tunes are special - I think God wanted some humble fellows to join Him as he makes music....
Rediscovered these talented musicians 50 years later
This band OMD is one of the best bands that I have loved in the 70’s
Hello Deborah how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
What is this, man?! I just can't help but watching this show every other day for the last three weeks... Every song is a musical jewel... Thinking about picking up 2 or 3 and cover them with my band, down here in Brazil...
A Glorious road less travelled than most , yet veering off the track and avoiding the lake of course , can be such a rewarding journey .
When the band was put together... was it a prerequisite to be able to play multiple instruments and be able to sing? What talent!😊
I loved this band in the day and still love it. Great sound
The DareDevils were the best ever
Remember watching this at the time. Great country rock band,. Excellent book about them written by Supe Granda the bass player, called 'It Shined'
One of my all time favourite bands
+Device Squad Mine too !
Same here, I got their quilt album on CD. It gets an absolute thrashing on my car stereo :)
Dazzwidd In the late 90's They released all they're albums on CD, I was lucky enough to get them all, They have a fan club where you can get all there CD's, If you want I can try to find It ?
What a great band, filmed at the top of their game ; these kids today know nothun!
What times we had.
My mate nige introduced ozarks in my mid teens and they always remind me of him, always great to listen to and to have around for old times sake!
I'm in my sixties, (um think of a Beatles song from Sgt. Peppers). Of all the decades I've lived in, for me, the 70's was the best musically. And a big part of it was all the great Southern bands including this one.
I love this band so much I can't explain it.
..pure A M E R I C A N vibes !!
😂
ha ha ha ha mm funny love it.
Damn great band, one of my favorites!
Thanks for this. I've always loved "Jackie Blue"... one of my favourite songs.
Funny, that is my least favorite songs of theirs.
I got to see them live July, 2015 at the Ozarks Amphitheater - great stuff. I thought the place would be packed but it was sadly a sparse crowd. You people are missing out on the legend.
"Singing rain and pain on he who hesitates , It'll shine when it shines "
.you might think I'm waistin' time..but I'm just a good old boy who's learned to wait....LOVE 'em !!!
WOW, an "Ozark Mountain Mouth Bow" Only seen one before, (at a Bluegrass show in Ky.) blew my mind. That was a good version of "Jackie Blue" too
Great music from a band I knew little about except Jackie Blue and If you want to get to Heaven. Thanks.
My cousin was in a band where he'd play guitar and harmonica on If You Want to Get To Heaven. It was nearly spot on (considering his band was a three-piece)
Just like 40 years ago I subconsciously started singing along with "Chicken Train." Thx for posting this great memory. :-)
GOOSEBUMPS BABY, THIS BAND IS A WELL OILED MACHINE.
Thanks to TheMissingTapes for uploading this brilliant performance in such fine 16:9 quality. You are the best.
Thanks for uploading. First heard them in 76 when I was working in Jersey in the channel island I was 16. Lots of happy memories
😊
Wow ! thank you for whoever posted this 👃 probably mr. Algorithm , one of my favs Ozark Mountain Daredevils and a full concert a boot ! Camera footage is clear and superb filming. can't wait to watch this vid.later .going to have to dig out the harmonicas and play along hahaha. Thanks again mr. Algorithm
This is some of the best jug band music in America!🇺🇸☮️😊🎶
Magic that's been bringing tears to muh heart since the seventies. LOVE it
Been playing this great music for40 years my kids love it and my grandchildren love it
Had all the albums in the 70's. luv em.
So unique from anything else. As a musician it's hard to pick my favorite group of all time but OMD is possibly IT. Listened to them for 35 years now and never grow tired of their style
