Hey Donald (Buck?) you just popped up on youtube playing Reaper.....A lot of things have changed since Smithtown '65. We were going to come out to see you when you played Riverhead a few years ago, but as usual things got gummed up. In Lacrosse we give Buck a ride to the sound check and our gig was a few blocks away and invite Buck to our gig and sure enough 11 and he comes through the door with a guitar and we invite him on stage and we have matching jump suits on. He loved it and the crowd did to. That’s my story with Buck.Glad he is still Rocking and so am I at 72.

🤩 I'm Brazilian, I live in the city of Sao Paulo. Today in 2024 I am 59 years old. I discovered BOC when I was 17 years old - I went to an undergroud store in the city center, and when I laid eyes on the cover of Some Enchanted Evening I fell in love - I asked to hear it - halfway through R Y ready to Rock I already bought it. After that, years passed and I bought all of BOC's albums (many were not re-released in Brazil, so I had to import them). BOC is the band that provided the soundtrack to my dreams and my life! Thank you Eric, Buck, Albert, Joe, Allen, and all the other musicians who were part of the Cult.

  • @Jodyrides
    @Jodyrides Год назад +23

through the 60s and 70s, when I was a kid, I wanted to be a musician. I was in bands, nothing great, they always broke up for one reason or the other, mostly frustration..
but after a while, I started to realize that, it is really hard to be able to put yourself in that mood to want to play well. You can go to your 9 to 5 job and get through the day not feeling well, being in a bad mood, being preoccupied, having off the job life changing things happen to you and your family.
but a musician has to feel like playing every night. You have to be in that tropical mood. And that’s not easy to flip that switch.
I have been playing guitar since 1964. I’ve been about 10 different bands. I’m gone through dozens of guitars and amplifiers, I got tired of getting home at 4 AM smelling like an ashtray, only to have to go to work at 6 AM sometimes to my regular day job. That gets old..
I have a lot of respect for professional musicians now more than ever. I know you have to be good every night, you have to feel like playing, you have to smile when you don’t feel like , you have to be an actor.
I used to wonder how bands could possibly complain about being on the road for months. Living in a bus together traveling, like the band with the name “the band “.. grinding it out night after night. That had to be tough. I couldn’t do it. I salute all musicians they don’t get the recognition they deserve 99% of the time..
I remember when the Beatles broke up I wondered, how could they possibly do that. Now, I don’t know how they could possibly stay together all those years.
do you see famous musicians floating from band to band starting new bands and then breaking up. I’ll bet most of the time, it’s the other band members or the big name it is burned out. It’s a grind…
The bands I was in, after a while, I just didn’t feel it. I ended up quitting. I’m just not cut out to be a musician..it ain’t easy..
    I salute real musicians everywhere..

I juggled 9 to 5 jobs trying to free myself to play 2 or 3 times a week. I am 70 now and still live off the memories. It was wonderful. The groupies ,the drinking and just general debauchery. Lol. These guys have been Rocking it out forever and they are like fine wine they just get better and better with age. I’ve seen them five or six times in my life and never ever have I been disappointed. When they first made this song famous and were on tour that year a bunch of us went to the Aragon to see them and they were touring with the Green Laser in the show and this song went on forever and ever and depending on what chemical influences you were under that night it seemed as though you had gotten drawn into this mesmerizing zone and just got better and louder and better and that’s it you were hooked and I have been ever since and as I’m printing this I’m thinking back and remembering all of those places. Later that same year in the fall at NIU again with the laser show. Saw them a few years later in Chicago again. Madison once. Rockford twice of which once was at a large bar and it was a killer show to be that up close and personal and every show has been great but that one at the Aragon really hooked me. It was a great night. Dam we had some great Rock and Roll years ago. Five or six decades of music that I don’t think will ever be matched again as music and mainly the music industry itself will never be anything close to what it was then. There will still be good music but never the same as it was. We have been lucky to have lived it. 🐢

Went on a double date back in the 70s to a concert in Charlotte, NC. Saw a couple of bands, one was BOC but we didn't know much about them at the time, very early in their touring career. They rocked the house down I must say. After the show we went to Athens Greek Restaurant there in town to get some pizza. We ordered and the girls went to the ladies room. They came back and said, hey, that band is sitting over across the way. They had recognized them and spoke to them at their table. Then a couple of the band members came over to our table for a chat. We were so high I don't remember which ones came but they ask us how was the show and we said great, rocked out, really dug it you know. Just regular rockers doing a tour and living the dream. A few years later, we started hearing their songs on the FM stations and their popularity really grew. Saw them again some years later at the old Charlotte Coliseum. Great rock band.

Caught them playing with Spinal Täp at the Isle of Lucy Blues Jazz festival. Buck did a 74 minute guitar two-man-solo with Nigel Tufnel. Rock history.

How great it would've been if Will Ferrell would've showed up with a cowbell. We need more cowbell.

Sounds like they paid attention to Will Ferrell's idea: 40 years later the cowbell is more pronounced.

There more than just a cowbell there is drum, guitars, bass and vocals as well a lot of people seem to forget that.

I was working in Saudi Arabia when this was a hit, so | only heard it when I came home on holiday. I was driving up the M6 and was completely blown away. David Hamilton introduced the song as 'Perfection in black plastic.' While I was home I kept asking where I could buy this wonderful song. Finally it came on the radio again...'That's it! "Perfection in black plastic!"' Some weird looks. My brother said 'That's "Don't fear the reaper", what are you on about?' It took a while for the penny to drop, but let's be fair, David Hamilton wasn't wrong!

EVERYBODY LISTEN UP!!! For the next Blue Oyster Cult concert, everybody bring a cowbell and stick! And then when they play Reaper, play along to the beat! "More cowbell," you demand? HERE IT IS!!!
