He was the one who did the note pad trick and was able to single handed catch light out when he wasn’t paying attention and even went as far as to CHALLENGE him based on evidence instead of instinct which the others in L group used to try determine if light is kira, i’d say 130-140

Okay, I'm not favouring any character but sure light is smart but having the death note gave him an advantage over an L making it difficult for L to figure out he was kira but L still managed to catch up to him despite this advantage. @:D I thought near was irritating. I can't tell you why because I loved L, but was disappointed when near managed to catch out light. I wanted L or the task force to do that... Edit: ok so looking back now I can see why I liked L but disliked Near. It’s for 2 reasons. 1. Nears victory felt really unearned. He just took everything that L had gathered and formed one scheme, and even then the fella tailing mikami did most of the work. L on the other hand was the one who confirmed Kira did exist, where he was, how he killed, how he got his info and who it was, and he did this face to face with his suspect compared to near who only revealed his face two minutes before his plan was at work, L just couldn’t prove the it before light managed to defeat him. 2. He exhibited none of what made L likeable. L didn’t seem too interested in other people, but when they got hurt we saw he was visibly upset. He had a sense of humour and genuinely seemed like a nice guy. Near did none of this. He had this air about him that felt like he felt superior to those around him. Plus I watched the anime and the ways near discovers some things were shit, but I know it’s better in the manga

As he states at the end, he did it mostly because of Mello. So yeah. Mello was irrelevant but they used him as a trump card and Near just went with it. Imo, the anime should've ended with L's death but in a different way than a Shinigami hack.

In the last episode of death note when light was running after getting shot near tells aizawa to not chase light considering his wounds but aizawa told him that he doesnt take orders from him which left near with a surprised expression In the end it was signified that near was good but still he was not at L's level
L is smarter than Light and here’s why: As L points out, (Light is quicker at finding a solution to a problem than he is.) While this could be considered a strength for Light, there is also a huge downside to it as well. This easily makes him more susceptible to relying on quick accusations while overlooking crucial information. L on the other hand is slower in nature and because of this he can be more vigilant. But just like Light, there’s a down side to it as well. L could easily abuse his strength by over analyzing and wasting to much time. Neither one of theses masterminds succumbed to their two separate weaknesses often. However when comparing the two, Light has made more mistakes and slip ups. Emotions can easily cloud one’s judgment. And Light lets his emotions get the best of him when he succumbs to his well known pride and rage. It is because of he’s emotions that he loses site of his hasty weakness. L on the other hand is well known for keeping his head on straight and resting emotional behavior. There for L’s weakness doesn’t affect him in the degree Light is affected. Ultimately L is wiser, but it is nearly tie in so many ways!
I thought L would eventually return in the last episodes as Rem would have made a deal with Watari (L got a call from him just before his death) so that he won't have to actually extend the Misa's life by killing L and ultimately he wouldn't die. I really hoped L would be assisting Near and make an entrance at the last episodes during the outing of Light as Kira at last......... It would kinda a cool ending...... 😔

I love AOT and Isayama, he did a great job, but it's not the same thing, you can't compare Death Note's situations and characters who are made to be really smart, and a show that have good plots and a well made storyline. Edit: ok so looking back now I can see why I liked L but disliked Near. It’s for 2 reasons. 1. Nears victory felt really unearned. He just took everything that L had gathered and formed one scheme, and even then the fella tailing mikami did most of the work. L on the other hand was the one who confirmed Kira did exist, where he was, how he killed, how he got his info and who it was, and he did this face to face with his suspect compared to near who only revealed his face two minutes before his plan was at work, L just couldn’t prove the it before light managed to defeat him.
2. He exhibited none of what made L likeable. L didn’t seem too interested in other people, but when they got hurt we saw he was visibly upset. He had a sense of humour and genuinely seemed like a nice guy. Near did none of this. He had this air about him that felt like he felt superior to those around him.
Plus I watched the anime and the ways near discovers some things were shit, but I know it’s better in the manga

So yeah. Mello was irrelevant but they used him as a trump card and Near just went with it. Imo, the anime should've ended with L's death but in a different way than a Shinigami hack.
