I will always think that death note ended with Light laughing maniacally at L's grave and Ryuk actually killing Light afterwards as he already had his fun. In that way, they both won in a way. L, after proving in his death that Light was Kira all along and Light, after getting rid of L.
He knew the whole time he just needed enough proof to legally convict him and its hinted at L enjoyed the cat and mouse aspect

@@lightkirayagami791 ehh they’ve kinda got a point. Light and Mello would frequently get really overly emotional and not think straight and when they did, their plans often had massive flaws in them and that’s not even mentioning that Light had godlike powers and so did Mello for a time. Near was pretty smart but he didn’t really get much done by himself and when he did, he would be really slow and careful. In the end, L doesn’t really have any of these problems and while his plans were also often flawed, it was to a much lesser extent than the others.
im not being biased or anything but shikamaru is far time smarter than L, shikamaru was has smart as L when he was a kid.

@@hmn..9235 Is it necessary to know anyone's life or backstory in depth just for seeing a reflection of someone before you die. Ryuk probably noticed their deep complicated connection between them as he was the one stayed with light for long, so he wrote like that, Light would see L's reflection for a few seconds before light himself was dead and gone.
In the end, its just my theory, cause if ryuk was writing the end of light anyway, why he said it would be interesting, he could just simply right it and off with it :3

Hey I got a theory for y’all, I think L didn’t die, even tough Rem wrote his name in the notebook, I believe L wrote his name in the other notebook, and in the notebook one of the rules states that if that persons name is written in two notebooks, that person will not die. I believe this because when Light is about to die at the very end of the series, he sees L. Some say this was a delusion, but I do not believe so.
