  • Charlotte, North Carolina is NOT the best place to live in 2023. They overbuilt apartments and houses after Covid hoping people would move here but growth was slower than expected... and now they have thousands of empty units to fill and can't find buyers or renters. They are hoping that by labelling and promoting this city as "The Best Place To Move To In 2023"

I've lived in Charlotte since 2003 and I must say that it is GREAT PLACE!!! I've always felt safe, the greenways are fabulous, the weather is great, the cost of living is great when you compare it to the northern states, it is close to the mountains, the beaches and other major cities like Atlanta ... it has a great airport that has direct flights to london, italy and paris... I think this guy is biased and critical toward charlotte for some unknown reason... he has obviously not gone to Huntersville, Ballantyne, Harrisburg, etc... this guy is CRAZY

That's all this guy does; he makes videos of how horrible places are, yet he actively always searches out these areas that are shady. He has videos like "the real streets of..." and it's complete b.s. He did a video about how "dangerous" CLT was, he went trying to find the shadiest areas and then when he found it and some guy approached him saying "excuse me", he put his car in reverse and flew out of there and then claimed this guy was going to murder him. So, yeah this dude really never knows what the hell he's doing or talking about or actually KNOWS what dangerous areas are.

As someone who has lived in the Charlotte area for 11 years and lived all over the US and other countries, I respect your opinion based on the few days you were here. I agree with you that the city has developed some negative aspects through the years like many high growth cities have and has now pushed Carolina natives like myself to nearby towns. To those seeking to move to Charlotte, I suggest looking into Concord, Fort Mill SC, and if you can afford it, the Ballantyne, Myers Park, Steele Creek, Elizabeth, and Dilworth areas are great places. I suggest you take Jose’s view with a grain of salt, much like the Forbes, Zillow, etc biased top 10 articles it’s all ill informed content coming from sources that have little to no validity. Though as this source suggests, try renting first, I’d say at least a year, then deciding if Charlotte or any city is right for you. Wherever you’re from, you’ll always be welcomed at Charlotte!

As someone that has lived in the Fort Mill/Rock Hill SC area his whole life, I can't disagree more with that sentiment of looking into living in the area. Even today, the infrastructure (Roads, power, plumbing, sewage) is not ready to handle the kind of influx that is already affecting the Charlotte Meck area. Just using the roads alone as an example, every exit on I-77 from mile marker 77 to the NC state line sees some of the worst congestion at the morning and afternoon hours I've ever witnessed in SC outside of the Columbia and Charleston areas. I'm not trying to be a NIMBY or someone trying to keep new people out of their home town, but I do see the real problem that is the overcrowding of these places because of the marketing to get people to move to Charlotte, and I also see it as a problem that people who have lived here their whole lives being priced out of their own towns because of the marketing causing property prices to skyrocket in the last few years here.
That being said, Charlotte does have stuff to offer other than just being an over-saturated corporate banking city. It's got its good neighborhoods and it's bad, but even then you can easily discern them from each other and know where to go to experience the good places that Charlotte has to offer.

Having lived in Charlotte for a couple years and living all over North Carolina the past 10 years I can confirm that Charlotte is a good place to live. There's a reason it's one of the fastest growing metros in the country. It's not perfect and there are growing pains that come with a fast growing metro. Charlotte as a whole has very nice areas and very nice suburbs. It has its problem areas too just like any major metropolitan area. But you don't have to take random publications word for it. Look into the data yourself. The economy is growing. Jobs are growing. People are moving there in droves. I would highly suggest anyone that is seriously considering moving there to do their own research and take a trip. Don't read a bunch of articles and watch a bunch of RUclips videos. Actually go and feel the place out for yourself. Charlotte has many nice areas and you just need to go and see them for yourself.

As a person living in Charlotte since 2005, this video is 100% accurate about the city. I went traveling for work from 2016-2018, and it wasn't horrendous before, but I ended up coming back to a literal God forsaken waste land. The crime, the people, the roads, the cost- all got exponentially worse. To those all protesting about what this video says- Charlotte news literally just posted an article YESTERDAY (5/23/2024) about how JUST HOMICIDES have gone up 51% since the same time last year. Meanwhile they've gone down nationwide for bigger cities, even places like Chicago. The worst part of Charlotte really is the citizens themselves. Being someone with manners, I feel awful when I go out of town and assume people are going to be as awful as they are here. Taxes - especially property taxes- rise every single year for absolutely nothing that helps anyone that lives here out. Not to mention the fact that there is absolutely NOTHING interesting to do here. That is, if you can make it anywhere. Hell, even the mall they built less than a decade ago on the exit up from me, had almost every single shop/business leave it because the crime there in recent years. Not going off places to live lists, but for years now- NC has always been ranked #1 in worst states for employee rights. We’ve also been on an ugliest citizens list. 🙃

This dude is the most confusing individual I have ever seen when it comes to opinions and reasoning in regards to economic development, crime statistics, and criterion for what is considered "good" or "bad". Really seems that he likes to intentionally stir the pot (especially in comments) solely based on specific anecdotal experiences as opposed to actual results/facts despite marketing as a "help people moving" channel. If this guy got robbed in the safest city in America, I'm pretty sure he would just trash mouth it to hell and back despite everyone else's typical experience there. Do not confuse your experiences on a business trip, staying at an Uptown hotel, dining with colleagues at a Dilworth restaurant or speaking at a professional conference as it is nothing like actually living here. Forbes magazine had it correct in another articles in which they opined that North Carolina is now a 'Midlantic' state, not southern and is becoming more like Virginia, Maryland, etc. than Olde South. This is true but the transformation is limited to the City itself and not the surrounding areas - even suburbs 15 miles away. There is no southern charm, southern hospitality, southern anything actually. Transplants are much friendlier than the locals. So y'all ain't gonna drink any Sweet Tea on the neighbor's porch anytime soon. I am a bit surprised at the hostility of some of the comments from the Charlotte Sugars, who've submitted no written or visual rebuttals. I should mention that my big savings have been in rent to the tune of $800 per month but that advantage is starting to disappear rapidly. Many of the hideous, low-quality new container pods/transplant re-fridgeration units (aka alleged luxury apartments) are creeping toward NJ levels. As an economic migrant 8K a year buys a lot of trips OUT of Charlotte to Europe, Spain, South America (think Christmas in Buenos Aires, Bermuda, weekend jaunts to DC, Charleston, Florida.) FYI I get the same kind of snarling Sugar reaction when I opine I believe NoDa is ugly and South End unattractive giving an extensive list of things I do not like at all.

It has grown too fast for the infrastructure to keep up and the political leadership is incompetent.
There is a simmering anger and frustration underneath the facade, I've picked up on it myself.
It's full of transplants and transients so it doesn't really have its own domestic culture that stands out.
Traffic is horrendous and public transport does not offer an acceptable alternative.
And there are an increasing amount of tent cities full of homeless.
Obviously, there are pockets of the city that are nice but overall I doubt it's a place most would want to live.
40 minutes outside of the cite to the south and east you can find some of the night vest and down to earth people, but the area is growing so rapidly that the good folk are getting pushed out or selling off.

Charlotte, for the size of the city, has some of the LEAST amount of "bad" areas in the nation. Folks, when it comes to these type of videos you have to visit yourself and make your own evaluations. Most of these type of vlogs are designed to direct traffic to the watch the video (reason why the "why you should never" type of headlines), which means $$$ for the vlogger. I don't live there anymore (and not from NC), but I found it to be one of the most beautiful cities in America. Many of the neighborhoods (almost all of south Charlotte) are absolutely gorgeous. Suburbs around Lake Norman are stunning. Davidson, Huntersville are excellent) That being said, the vlogger is entitled to his opinion.
BTW, I cannot stand Miami, most of it is a cesspool. Nashville is partially nice (the Gulch), but east Nashville and much of west Nashville is terrible. Plus the crime rate in Nashville far exceeds Charlotte's. Finally, if Someone not from a community I was living in, and it was in a low income area as I saw in the video, then I might be predisposed also to chase them out as well. Some poor people do not like to feel they are filmed like they are in a zoo exhibition.

@@user-de9uc3py4d I disagree with you, but you are entitled to your own opinion. I am basing my opinion based on the size of the city and compared to other large cities. Charlotte comes out well above average. I say this because there are NO HOMELESS CAMPS found here like in almost every other large city, including Miami, DC, LA, etc. There is some run down areas but they are relatively few compared to other places even smaller than CLT, and the place is pretty clean. I have been to 48 states and just about every major city and Charlotte is way better than most of them. Again, my opinion and I've been here for more than 8 years and can live anywhere with my salary.

It's peaceful where I live in Elgin, Blythewood area of SC and it's much easier to become a homeowner. All you see in Charlotte is people renting townhomes and apartments and alot of people struggling. Don't let the pretty tall buildings downtown make you think this is a great place to live

I've never lived in Charlotte. The only place I know is the airport. However even where I live in Munich Germany, people have tried to stop me recording outside and in public, where it's allowed. Even at big tourist destinations where you'd be hard pressed to find someone who isn't recording. Go figure. I do my level best not to capture people's faces, and even then some people get mad at me. That's just to say that it can happen anywhere. Yet I well understand how annoying it can be.
After living in Germany for over 30 years, no one could pay me enough to move back to any place in the U.S. permanently. The main reasons are the lack of standardised national health care and job protection, the high crime rate in many areas, and the middling to nonexistant public transport systems. It's a great place to visit, but I never want to live there again.

The only thing I agree with is the overbuilding of apartments. Charlotte has 19,000 vacant apartments and Atlanta has 21,000 vacancies. Charlotte has almost 3 million. Why that many apartments for a city of that size? Atlanta has over 6 million people. That number of vacancies make sense. These developers will file bankruptcy building all of these apartments and no real return on their investment.

Conversely, for those who can afford it there are also some very nice and safe neighborhoods in Charlotte (i.e. Elizabeth, SouthPark, Myers Park, Cotswold, South End, Dilworth, etc.). Bruh you scary as hell. Charlotte is no more dangerous than any other major city. There are million dollar homes and women jogging in areas that were war zones just a couple of years ago.

I'm from Tampa Bay up the road from southwest Florida, Naples Fort Myers you have a lot of independently wealthy people and rich retirees there, or people that doesn't like Miami's crime and crowdedness but has Miami's weather I like the area. Charlotte doesn't even have 3 million people to have all those millionaires. I went to Atlanta area to a outlet mall they had sheriff's guard towers there as well

Looks like you went to the few areas that are bad in Charlotte because there are only a few and I’ve been here for five years and have never seen any of these areas in your video but the opposite lots of really nice areas and a very beautiful city
