I spent that New Year’s Eve on the town as a single guy. Not a good night. The next day, I met a woman at a sports bar, watching our college football team play in a bowl game. We are still married today, April 17, 2024 🙂 She looks very similar to your wife. Petite, dark hair in the same style, classy dresser and an outstanding human being. Sorry for your loss, sir.

You'd think they would remember seeing how it was the turn of the century into a whole new set of thousands. The 1000s were not a quiet time and now we were flipping over to the big 2000s. So for that reason, seeing this video is a special treat. This is partying like it's 1999
I thought it was fascinating and saved newspapers from the next day, the empty bottle of champagne and a few other items. The biggest thing was the buildup to that moment. Years spent focused on getting computers converted to a 4 digit year. We always referred to the year as 2 digits for my whole life leading up to that point. No one ever said 1983, 1995. It was simply 83. Or 95. Computers only had 2 digit dates since their invention because memory and storage capacity was so limited so programmers saved that space and no one used 4 digits for the year anyway. My wife was a software tester and she was heavily involved in project teams working on the conversation since 94 or 95. Many corporations were still using main frames from the 60s in the mid 90s. So this night all that build up was over. It took me 6 months to get used to writing 2000 for the date. This party was church friends so we went home after and toasted with champagne.
I remember it a bit, the Y2K paranoia--people worried power plants and computers would all stop running, and the quiet sigh of relief afterwards. the energy and excitement of people wondering what will come next in the next 1000 years, people feeling like they were lucky to be alive when the big number flips over.
The 1999s and before ment, more time outside! Computers only really took off in that decade, internet even later. Most people were not using Computers, beside us Nerds ^^ So most people spent free time outside, in the sun! Dont forget: No smartphones! Only TV and Radio. I came from the former DDR, so even telefone was a thing of the future. If you wanted to meet friends, you had to run over to their house and ask them in person if they wanted to. Overall, RL was more important than madeup bullshit online. The world was a clean place, at least for us in the west lol Oh and everyone born after 2000 is not a real human, yet ^^
Also, the end of 1000 years ment, many doomcults. We all were not sure if we would REALLY survive 2000, in case all that electronic stuff would do stop to exist. Like blackouts ^^ Deathmetal rose in those last 10 - 20 years, look at Norway for example. Overall the feeling of the end of an era, and maybe of a lot of future!
There was a definite shift in energy, people were buzzing around and it felt like the dawn of a new era. The internet at that time was special, it felt exciting to be able to talk to people on the other side of the world and gain access to websites and forums, to connect with people in a new way (although that was happening in the late 90's too).

After we exited the building, we noticed that the huge field next to us was almost completely dark from a fog that came out of nowhere. I remember playfully yelling "AH! This video made me cry. It is so touching. I am so sorry for your loss. Your wife was beautiful, I am sure she was amazing person. She was so cheerful. 90s were such a beautiful time. And the beginning of the 2000s. I miss them so much. Amazing music, that atmosphere, that joy with the little things. Social media changed all of us, impacted our lives. The simple Internet was very useful and brought us happiness, but then everything got out of control in a global scale. People were so calm back then, full of joy. Not addicted to social media and obsessed with the constant validation. Thank you so much for sharing your memories.
What a beautiful time - everyone, still learning how to fit into themselves, all gather to celebrate the time we’ve spent roaming the earth, becoming who we are and leaving the impact of our presences felt by the world. You can hear that even the reporter on the TV is talking about the history of Times Square and what it is and has become - everybody seemed to be reflecting on the life they’ve known of - what they did, what they could’ve done, what they are now, what they could be in, what has happened prior to us, and the impact we’ve made in our world. We always take our lives for granted, no matter what. But the greatest part is how life will continue on despite how we’ve treated it. Life is one of the few things we can do anything with and it will still be there for us. Moments like 12/31/1999 remind us that the life we get to live will always be there for us and the ones after us. It’s so unbelievable how everyone’s lives, everyone’s timeline corresponds with another - like the fibers of a muscle, the pieces of licorice on a Twizzler, or the lines of bark on a tree, corresponding with another regardless of the direction it spirals into. Maybe that’s why they call it a ‘family tree’, heh. Life goes on, and no matter what you do with it, no matter how lonely you are, it will always tie into another’s. Your wife is as beautiful as I presume your soul was and still is. Thank you for sharing this little piece of your life. The millions of people who will see this in the future appreciate it too. Here’s to another new year, right? Take care.
The laughter, the joy, and the happiness of entering a new year not only brought blessings and prosperity to your family, but an overwhelming gift of love and care to others all over the world. God bless your family and you as well, I loved watching this.❤
Wow that first lady was still hanging on to the early 90s hairstyle. What a beauty tho. My mom rocked a similar hairstyle in the early 90s. I was only a kid but I still remember.
Man, a house full of people, full of love... the most awesome day of the last centuries, haha. I lived 1999 too, but I was 9 years old. How I wish I could go back as an adult and seize, squeeze, every moment. Thanks for this video. Paradise is an eternal loop between 1998 and 2001, maybe 2002. Let's go back and do all things the right and better way. ❤
@@Appreciation-Communitybs, WE have the power to bring it back. throw out smartphones & any tech post-1999, wear 90s clothes and start going outside again & basically we've brought back the 20th century
@DaBoomerYe I somewhat agree but also disagree. It's a pipe dream to get enough people to do that to the point it feels like the world around us is like it was then. But that being said you've essentially made a more modern version of the Amish lol. Unfortunately though it's not just the things you mention. You cannot undo 20+ years of military industrial complex control and corruption or political devils and death merchants running this country (and the world) into the dirt. When the Soviet Union fell a massive tension was alleviated. It felt like a time of peace despite the conflicts we were getting involved with in the middle east. 911 really brought that tension back and crushed stability. Then you have stuff like 2007 crash/bail outs, and to a lesser extent Occupy Wallstreet (people don't truly realize the implications of what happened there). The 90s was a brief period where it felt like "maybe everything is going to be alright". Now it just feels like Cold War volume 2.
I only can say thanks for this video, the nostalgia just kicked in like a crazy mule. An ex once told me that "any past time was a better time" and, dang, that fact hits hard. PD: Sorry for your loss.
I was a sophomore at St. John's. That was the one year I went to Times Square...four digits changed in the year! What lovely memories of your crew here.
You made me cry and value even more what I value of the beautiful young angel I've come across with... I've been thinking about marrying her after 6 years together and on... I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you can get to heal and carry her memories forever. Much love and hugs dude.

i can't believe this was end of 1999 the new year of 2000 and now it's 2020 i was 18 in 1999 wow where the time gone hopefully of all of them people are doing ok great video
I remember that day, I was 7 years old and off-screen by about a quarter of the planet. In all seriousness, I love these time capsules, there is some nostalgia to it even to me who only know these hairstyles and decoration standards from TV shows I watched later on.
The reason I clicked on this video is because I was born on Nov 29 1999. So, realizing I was already born 30 days before that day while all those people are all grown up is mind boggling. Its just the weird realization that I am just a 1 month old baby at that point in time.
I remember going with my best bud to a party held by his college buddies. I only knew my friend and the guy hosting it, but we had fun playing PS1 and watched Armageddon before midnight, then went out and lit fireworks. Good memories.
You have good taste! I feel the same, born in 1998, have a lot of fond childhood memories starting round 2002, luckily me and my twin brother were gifted with good memory - what I find annoying, is back in, say 2002, 1999 was only 3 years ago, things were pretty much the same and I didn't even realist how lucky I was to be there, how the first half of the 2000's was compared to late 2000's is just insane, up til about 2005, most people I knew still didn't have internet, we still used analog cameras and TV's, then suddenly in like 2007 everything suddenly become super digital and the old way of living disappeared in a flash!
I remember Dec 31 1999. My family and all my relatives flew out to my uncle's house and had an absolute rager. They hired a bartender and bought fireworks and the whole shabang. I was just a kid and remember it was a wild night. The 90s and early 2000s were simply just better times.
I was 15 years old and went to my first out of school house party with my friend Katie. I begged and begged my parents for weeks because they were very strict and didn't let me go to parties. It was the first time I smoked weed. I was only there about 4 hours lol. Didn't feel anything. My mom picked us up and we were in bed by 1.

Thanks for your very touching video, 1999 is the year I was born and I feel a sense of nostalgia when I watch videos from around that age. Very pleasant. Sending love to your family dear stranger, read the description and I'm sorry for your loss
may cheryl rest in peace, her memory lives on!
@Acs2046why else you’d think he would pick her as his wife?
No idea how, but this popped into my recommendeds, and I collect little memories like this. Thanks for sharing it with us all, Dave. I hope you're doing well now, and I'm sorry about Cheryl's passing a few years ago.
I remember that night like it happened yesterday. Thank you for sharing.
Sorry for your loss.
One of the worlds last good days
Thanks for sharing this with the world. I’m so sorry for your loss, sir.
God bless your family and you as well, I loved watching this.❤
Midnight 2019/2020 this was the first thing that popped up when I searched dec 31 1999
Wow that first lady was still hanging on to the early 90s hairstyle. What a beauty tho. My mom rocked a similar hairstyle in the early 90s. I was only a kid but I still remember.
these hairstyles were very popular back then, for some reason... but its cute ngl :)
OMG she was gorgeous. I'm sorry about your loss sir.
Why does this bring tears to my eyes I was born in 2004?
Too much soy
Because even at a glance you can see a different world that you will never get to experience.
@@Appreciation-Communitybs, WE have the power to bring it back. throw out smartphones & any tech post-1999, wear 90s clothes and start going outside again & basically we've brought back the 20th century
cuz even we 2000s babies can see the pre social media era was better & simpler
I adore this type of stuff.
Thank You for the upload!
hard to believe that was over 24 years ago. man time flies
i know this was posted 5 years ago, but thank you for sharing and im sorry for your loss! I can't imagine how hard that is.
I was 5 in 1999 and I’m so sorry for your loss, Dave.
What a lucky man to have married that beautiful woman, i was 12 at this time, best moments.
This is awesome, it's like stepping in a time machine with these videos.
I was born in 82. So... my teenager years before the internet Era were great...
I was also born in '82. We had the for most of my teens. Not sure what you're on about.
@@intellectic9155 I'm from '81. The internet wasn't a thing for us poorer rural people. I didn't start using the internet regularly until 2001 when I moved away from home and got my own apartment in the city.
She is soooo beautiful
In the end, Love is eternal!
I was 2 years old when this all happened! Time flies.
I was -5, Get it? Because i was born in 2005.
@@fireydoesstuff_real lol! You weren’t even born!
@@fireydoesstuff_real actually you were -6 when the video began!
I was -3 at that time
@@fireydoesstuff_real I was -10 months, born October 2000
I still remember New Year's Eve being with the family, I was 8 years old at the time. My parents and I had just moved into our new house. Thanks for sharing this
My dad was have been 27 years old on this day. I wish I was him to experience the 90s
Thanks for the upload. It's like stepping in a time machine from when things were normal, and the sad part about it is that lt wasn't even that long ago.
I remember all of the 1990s and vividly remember December 31, 1999 when I was 16 years old living in Pennsylvania.
I was a young kid this at this time. I remember just chilling on the couch watching time square on the TV, waiting for the it to turn into the year 2000.
One of the greatest moments I wasn’t able experience. Because I don’t think I’ll live till 2099
What year were you born, cause I was born in 2006 and by the time it's 2099 I'll be 94
@yxsmim oh then if you have a long life then I guess you might be able to live till 2099
@yxsmim Oh i thought u mean u were born in 1993 when u said 93
I will be 116 years old in 2099 and believe I will make it to the year 2100 with good diet and exercise
its just a number man people forget about it a day after haha
Oh God the description broke my heart. I'm SO sorry for your loss.
An actual house party with family. I miss those
I was 28 days old when this video came out, wow.
And now it's 2021. The world is so much changed in these 21 years....
Imagine how nuts it is going to get in another 21 years
Now it’s 2024
25 years*
Your family was beautiful man sorry about your wife couldn’t imagine that pain.
Damn! I wish I was alive and grown to experience the 90s.
As someone born in 2000, New Year’s Eve 1999 always fascinated me and I wish I could’ve experienced it.
I was 6 years old and in first grade. Things really were simpler back then.
So much life and fun in this gathering! Even now watching I feel a bit giddy with nostalgia. But for the universe, it was just another day at work.
Have absolutely no idea why this has been recommended to me but I was 9 when 2k came along. If only we could go back to ourselves in the year 1999 and tell ourselves what is to transpire in the coming years ahead
I would not have believed it. I still thought texting would never catch on. They charged by the letter, though.
this is fragment of history i a was kid in these year amazing
i can feel the cameraman's satisfaction when he said "oh there it is!"
Rest in peace, Cheryl.
i can't believe this was end of 1999 the new year of 2000 and now it's 2020 i was 18 in 1999 wow where the time gone hopefully of all of them people are doing ok great video
Thank you for sharing this casual, innocent reminder of happier times. I'm sure she's watching from above. I hope you're well.
Just came to stop by before the start of the next decade :D
So weird! I was thinking about Y2K about 14 months ago and then I come across this video.
I love 1990s 🙂
We were in downtown Seattle , setting off fireworks, impromptu marching bands, bong hits on the streets! Fun night.
That's pathetic.
I agree on that "fine lookin' hottie"
Sorry for your loss, good sir ;(
i was playing moonlight on the river in the background i thought it was the video. this song is perfect for this video
If only I were alive pre 2k! I was born 2009, so i love watching the times I wish I was in
You have good taste!
I was in 8th grade at a friend's New Year's party. With chaperones, of course. Such a wonderful time in my life and many other lives.
Incredible
Thanks for uploading this
Everyone is actually talking and interacting with each other, i miss the days with no cell phones or social media...
Wow, this is awesome stuff. I was born in 2003 so I wasn't in on much of what was goin on before then, thanks for uploading these!
Happy 24 years of 2000 sir. We're so glad for the new millenium
