I once worked 2nd shift at a motel. One slow afternoon a guy called and I answered ‘Super 8 motel, how may I help you?’. He ignored this and asked me what movies were showing in our theatre tonight. I asked him which theatre and he said the St. Clair 10 Cinema. I had the newspaper open to the page showing showtimes to our local theatre by accident(that theatre was across the street). I read him all the movies and showtimes. Later looked up phone number and realized cinema was one digit off from our motel, a 4 instead of a 5. Probably took over a hundred phone calls from this guy asking same thing over next year or so, always kept the newspaper open to that page to help him. He eventually figured out we were a motel, not the theatre, and asked me why I’d helped him all this time. I simply said, because you asked nicely. Had a nice conversation with this older gentleman named Phil, who was a widower. He continued to call me for movie times even after that because the theatre was his favorite thing. I feel the small things count.

no the 2010s were. In 2019, My gen z and gen alpha friends went to Haysville, PA to capture some NS trains, after capturing an intermodal train, manifest train, and a OCS train with 2 heritage units on it, we went to Wendy's to get 2 baconators for each one of us. We ate all of that under 30 mintues, and then we went to play Roblox on my PC. We played multiple games like "The last person to drown in lava wins" "Murder mystery 2" and a couple of other games. after this, we went to play hide and seek outside. After that, we went BACK to austell ga but not to capture more trains. We needed to find eggs there because we heard that the residents in austell ga placed a lot of eggs that year, and this happened around April. My friend Billy found 8 eggs, I found 47 eggs, my friend Carl found 12 eggs, my friend Stinkhands (the reason he's named that because he doesn't wash his hands or wipe his butt after taking a dump) found 19 eggs. My friend Joseph found 25 eggs, my friend Junior found 3 eggs, my friend Cody found 89 eggs, my friend Andrew found 6 eggs, my friend Jeffy found 34 eggs, and my friend Scooter found 10 eggs. After this, we went new York to visit our other friends, came back to where we lived and did way more stuff together. Best decade ever, can't convince me otherwise.

Tin Men, starring Danny Devito, Richard Dreyfus, Barbara Hershey, John Mahoney and a whole bunch of other talent is one of the most underrated movies from the 80's. The movie really captured a slice of time in 1960's Baltimore that just pulls you into that era, even somehow successfully weaving in modern music from the Fine Young Cannibals. I also think the 80s had the best balance between technology and society, there was still a sense of wonder. The 90s weren't bad either, but I do think the downfall started with the internet and in particular social media. AI will make things worse. I too get a little teary eyed remembering those times, the nostalgia can be overwhelming especially remembering moments with people that are no longer with me. The moviegoing experience is the exact antithesis of this today: expensive, annoyingly loud, 30 minutes of commercials and/or trailers, inconsiderate jerks on their phones, jaded "bro" employees on their phones who would rather die than assist you. Instead of looking at my phone, I still had my anxiety back then as a anxious little boy.
I don't think alot of you understand why sometimes people look at their phones. It's because some of us have social anxiety. Wtf is the point of living in the moment is we don't feel same. Our phones help us help anxious people feel safe unless we are with others we trust. I get that back then people didn't believe or understand mental illness much but geeze these comments still don't get it.
As someone mentioned we didn't have cell phones to text or stare at during the times but if they did have them, they would be doing the same.
That's how some people live in the moment because we are different than people like you who are more confident and didn't have get past our traumas.
It's hypothetical to say you prefer back then when you all are now using the Internet to communicate with each other.
There are purposes for phones instead of just "social media". I don't even use main stream social media. I game and watch stuff on my phone. It's basically a mini computer.

Sure, there aren't any flying cars or hoverboards, but if you told 80's kids back then about how easy this generation can get their hands on whatever movies and music they want, they'd want to fast-forward to where we are now. Human beings are funny that way.
