  • Here are some of our fossil finds from early January 2022. There are some pyrite ammonites and a back bone of the Ichthyosaur that I find along the Jurassic Coast. I explain on the beach about the ammonite and Ichthyosaur fossil finds using plastic models. Stay until the end of the video to see a bit of fossil preparation technique, I use to develop the iron pyrites ammonites . I recommend sturdy gloves 🧤 and safety spectacles when preparing or hammering rocks to find the fossils in . Remember you should always stay away from the cliffs when fossil hunting . Always go fossil hunting in conjunction with safe tide times . We do fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast, East of Lyme Regis www.lymeregisfo... #fossilhunter #ammonites #fossilprep

    We tend to use a large darning needle for most of the Promicroceras cleaning work, taking away the mud, then we use a smaller needle for the more difficult to get bits. A scrub with a soft toothbrush can help as well. Some useful tips in the video, thanks for posting and we appreciate the comments about beach safety.

      Thanks for that the Crinoid is getting a lot harder to find . In the past quite big ” plates “ of the Crinoid bed have ended up smashed up on the beach by the sea washing them out of the mudslides and breaking them into pieces. The thing that “bugs “ me about the Crinoid is that it’s so light I’ve seen a nice piece carried past me in a wave which I was never able to retrieve 🌊

      A chap I know called Iain he was due to come fossil hunting tomorrow but it’s been really poor the collecting this last two week and half . The weather has been so good he is going to keep his powder dry and try in February. For some reason there is a lot of sand on the 2008 slip washed along from Lyme Regis. The Sandy beach near the Cobb looks a bit washed out I think a lot of sand carried in suspension got dropped off at Black Ven , East of Lyme Regis

    Hey Brandon..
    Thank you for your videos. Im just getting back into collecting after many years.
    I live in ireland and ammos are not so common. I have been lucky enough to find some pyrite specimens. What is exposed is really beautiful, with suture lines clear and distinct. Unfortunately the matrix surrounding the fossil is pyritic too (or could it be bloom). Not sure how to prep these. I would like to expose the whorl on one side at least but fear damaging them. Have you any advice?

      I’m glad your enjoying the fossil hunting again. I have a video on RUclips about dealing with iron pyrite ammonites, it’s called fossil ammonite preparation- I think 🤔. Or try “Ammonite Fossil Preparation.” It shows you what I do to get them prepared. • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  2 года назад

      There is a colossal amount of metal material down on the beach at the 2008 slip . They’d find it pretty hard going as there is so much metal you wouldn’t believe it from the 2008 landslide at Lyme Regis at low tide . We bring back copper and a lot of lead ! There is loads of iron and steel . People find silver medals and even gold jewellery at times !
