It's great to see a young lad so Interested in fossils & natural history. I live in Merseyside but years ago me & my family used to go to Whitby on holidays & found quite a few ammonites on the beach. It's hard to comprehend just how old they are they really are truly ancient. Been watching your channel for a while now & you're an amazing young man it's astonishing to see the odd fossil that turns up. Keep up the great work mate!!!

Excellent! One half hour down the road from me in Indiana are the famous Crawfordsville Crinoid Beds. At some point a fine layer of silt buried these to preserve them before some more destructive forces were able to ravage the beds. The results are arguably the best preserved specimens on the planet. It is still possible to discover a yet named variety if due diligence is shown.
Fine work, I had never seen this process though so had wondered on it. In the southern part of my state there are similar slate concretions, some as big as Volkswagon Beetles! I do wonder what might be within those. Great video, Cheers!

I could see the mini electronic chisel but can you explain what the other tool was, was it using compressed air or water? A video with a voice over explaining a little more would be interesting.
Great finds, you are so lucky to be near a coast with so many wonderful fossils, we don't have as much down in Suffolk. Love seeing what you discover when you crack open those round nodules.

Awesome videos! I have a question, what kind of product do you put on the ammonites once you're done cleaning them up?
Did you have family in the fossil prep field? Or did you build the amazing set of tools piece by piece. You have inspired me to attempt more fossil prep, how much does a basic air scribe system cost, roughly. Your work is amazing, if I ever make it to the UK would love to hunt with you some time!

So great to see how you clean up, I want to learn these techniques . Half of the art; finding and identifying- clean up the other. You and your dad have developed some amazing skills over the years. Missing the beaches, as soon as the lockdown’s lifting a trip to Yorkshire for some serious fossil hunting is top of my list! You should really set up a small museum with all your finds!
P.s; love to see the video again where you your dad and friends got that ichthyosaur off the beach in a canoe, epic adventure that!

Amazing prep video, where or from whom did you get the air pens and chisels? Can you recommend starter set for beginners. I've checked ken mannion stuff out but I don't gave the cash or the space for a big set. Got through a few dremmels already.

Hi, great channel. I’ve been watching your videos with my 5 year old son and he is really excited to get out hunting post lock down. We went to Port Mulgrave pre lock down and he made some great finds. The only challenge was actually getting down to the beach as access was poor. Can you recommend other rich locations with easier access? Cheers.

*Absolutely AWESOME Crinoid!* Ammonites Too. I've been finding little Cinoids & pieces in my Yard. Little, i mean tiny, hard to see, not even an inch. Just noticed the other day, a 'quartz' Rock of Crinoids has a bit of Pyrite, Very Cool!

When you can.Visit Thor's cave in Wetton Staffordshire.It's an ancient sea cave.You can make out many things in the rock.There have been 10.000 year old remains found there.So it must have been under the sea way before.You can see fossils from marine life in the rock.You will love it.

I have seen in another youtube channel, a fossil hunter from Texas, the ones he finds in his place are the large kinds of Ammonites. I like the ones that you find there in your place. Do you sell your fossil finds ! I would love to buy one of your nice ammonite finds just like what you showed in this video. I wonder how much they.would cost ?

Many people have asked but I see no answer as to what tools you use. Is it for fear of competition? I would love to see more technical videos from you talking about the tools and process. Common mistakes. Your recommendations. More of a teaching vid. Because your stuff is rad and learning from the best is , well, the best.
Good question! The tools we use are from either Ken Mannion or ZOIC Palaeotech. Making quality preparation videos is something we’re working towards, but is more difficult than I thought it would be 🤣

Would the air scribe destroy the actual fossilized part very easily or is it much harder than the surrounding matrix? Thanks for sharing this!
The fossil is usually softer, so it's easy to accidentally 'dink' it with the pens - you have to be really careful! My dad usually prepares our fossils as he is really experienced with fossil preparation, glad you like the video :) I've got another preparation video to come shortly
I know its noisy but could you explain the tools you use. How & why etc ....its very important, patience is needed for this.

The first part of the prepping is a kind of Airbrush with different types of iron-powder. Its like sandblasting. Those prepping tools work electric or with air pressure.
The same with the pneumatic stylus later in the video.

To prepare fossils needs time to learn about how to do. You can even study it. And for sure, you have to be very careful not to destroy the fossil while prepping it. Everybody broke some fossils by beginning to learn about this kind of work...thats a fact.
