    🌟 About this video
    So Creed... a fragrance brand beloved of royalty and of celebrities, but what about me?! We have all heard of Aventus, but what else is Creed famous for? I hadn't tried many Creed fragrances so I bought their sample set and in this video, I talk through Creed's history, their celebrity clientele and I review 7 of their fragrances, including their latest release, Queen of Silk.
    These are very expensive (£165 for 30ml), but are they worth trying?

    Ok, so I made this primarily as a sampling video and I made a short introduction to explain why I was curious to try these fragrances in the first place as I felt that was important for people to understand. I haven't read The Ghost Perfumer, but I had heard of the it and I thought that book was just about claims that Creed hadn't given credit to the correct perfumer for some of their fragrances. But, I've now been made aware that there are also claims there that a lot of the clientele that Creed say their fragrances have had may also have been fabricated. For that reason, I have asked people in comments what to do with this video as I don't wish to spread misinformation and I made this video in good faith. The response so far from viewers has been to leave the video up and pin a comment to explain that the introduction is the "history" according to Creed (some of this history is from the Creed brand page on Fragrantica which hasn't been altered despite Fragrantica writing an article about the Ghost Perfumer book saying that the same information is inaccurate!!! 🤷‍♀). So here is that comment to explain. I hope the sample reviews are still of use to people at least. Thank you all for making me aware of this! ❤

      Well, this is interesting. So we all learned something! Fragrantica always requires a double check. They often list notes widely diverging from the house's (and others!) own descriptions.

      @@dr.claire.perfume hi dr. smith, are you able to edit videos after uploading? if so i would suggest that (add a disclaimer at the beginning and maybe cut out the intro part) because a lot of people just watch the video and don't read the comments. or maybe add text over the top of that portion of the video. or maybe even if you can't edit the video, edit the video title to somehow say that the history portion is inaccurate, see comments. just some thoughts as i think people go to you as a reliable source in fragcomm so i do fear this is going to (unintentionally) spread misinformation.

      Hello! You know what?! Since this video, I've been in store and tried Love in Black, if you love blackcurrant and ambrette, perhaps something a little darker, that one is probably the one that's grabbed me the most, other than Virgin Island Water, which I think there are perhaps some longer lasting and reasonably decent clones out there for... Love in Black is along a similar line to things like Chanel Misia, although they aren't the same by any means. I hope you find something that you love! Thanks for watching and happy Sunday 🥰

    Hi Claire, I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for this review.... I had no idea Creed has such a regal pedigree! The addition of ambroxan in the newer formulas is surprising, considering how divided people are about the note. The only ones you mention that sound interesting is Love in White and Virgin Island Water. You review helped clarify a newbie's confusion ovr the MANY scents Creed offers.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Haha, I think I've fallen for the Creed embroidered history. I knew of the Ghost perfumer book but not more than they were claiming that other perfumers were responsible not that they had made up a lot of the brand's history and who had worn what 🤦‍♀️ oh well, hopefully the reviews are at least useful to someone! I did ask people whether to take this down as I don't want to mislead people, but everyone said no, leave it up with a pinned comment, so that's what I've done... Oh dear 🤦‍♀️
      I think there is a huge difference in the older ones and the newer ones! I feel like they are trying to be like Initio or something! I get that fragrance houses need to evolve though and my bet is that the newer ones are probably selling better than the older ones despite the ambroxan, as they feel more modern. I'd love to know the sales figures actually! Have a fab week!

    Thank you, Claire for this this video. I enjoyed it! I unlike most of your viewers do enjoy the house. I have sampled quite a few and purchased Aventus for Her, Spring Flowers (older bottle) and Carmina. I have smelt Queen of Silk prior to the launch in the US. From what I recall it was okay. I wouldn’t mind getting a sample to try out further on skin.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Well it's good that you have a few that you love from them. I liked the older ones, they felt very classic. I am passing my sample set on to another creator who wants to try these too 😊 Carmina I did like the dry fruitiness of, the far drydown was the good bit for me. Queen of Silk surprised me because close up, it was a big no, but actually the drydown and scent bubble were good, I can see why people would go for it. And I'm saying that as someone who hates saffron a lot of the time... I do think they could improve the newer ones by turning down the ambroxan a bit. They would still be loud and big! The old ones were so long lasting and some were very loud without noticeable ambroxan. Thanks for watching 🥰

    Good morning Claire. I’ve received quite a few samples of various Creeds when ordering from a retailer here in Australia. I pass on the masculine ones to my grandsons and son-in-law with the comment, if you love this, start saving. I won’t be buying you this for Christmas!😄
    Had a few samples of Aventus for Her which I really didn’t like, Windflowers (just ok) and Carmina. Not a cherry fan, so not tempted there either. I will get my nose on Queen of Silk out of curiosity, but at $A469 for 75ml, probably not, even if it’s a strong like.
    As you said, plenty of alternatives out there at better prices and no dodgy background.
    Have a great week 😃🇦🇺

      Yes these are very pricey. Hi Claire🤗 I stay away from creed lol the prices put the fear in me! I was curious about spring flower it’s probably the only bottle I like! I did sample a few of the men’s fragrances and I thought some were amazing yet the ones I’ve sampled that are meant to be feminine were just ok, I also thought love in white was soft and pretty but again for the price I thought of other fragrances that give the same vibe, great video Claire I did not realize how much history Is behind this brand I’m always here to learn and spend time with you ❤

      Hi Sunny, I think this is the problem! The male marketed ones seem to be much better regarded, I actually spoke to a sales assistant with Creed who told me she mostly wears the male marketed fragrances. I think they are just in general slightly more interesting, striking and inventive. Gosh you know what? I'd not read the Ghost perfumer and I took Creed's version of their history, big mistake! I think most of it is inaccurate sadly. I asked people whether to remove this video but everyone said to keep it up and just explain with a pinned comment so that's what I've done, but yeah, nightmare! 🤦‍♀️

      The sample set (which was £35 for 5 fragrances) didn't include it, and I didn't get a free sample of it sent from Creed, like Carmina and Queen of Silk, as it wasn't a new release at the time unfortunately.
      Since this video, having now read more about how Creed have "embellished" their history (to say the least 😂), I doubt that I will talk about more of these as I felt a bit stung by having been taken in 😂. I love these overviews from you 😊 especially when you're so honest and they aren't perhaps for you.
    Hats off to you as well the dubious history must be so hard to research with all the nonsense the brand pumps out. But I suppose it's the fragrance that matters and I've enjoyed you talking about them.
    I think I tried Spring Flowers with you? It's in my mind. I struggle to remember what I've tried as they are so forgettable.
    Love in White, dare I say it, I like this one. The opening is horrific but then it becomes really rather beautiful. Despite Laura Bush allegedly wearing it 🤣. Yes I agree it's very "Designer" like, that's a neutral comment but they do tend to not evolve and ain't groundbreaking nowadays.
    I've never heard of Aqua F. It sounds OK. But yea not for me I'd think.
    Three years? 🤣 I'm sure within hours of the success of the M version they had something ready to cash in. This one was OK. Generic and very dull, like the terrible "Cologne" version.
    Wind Flowers 🤣 Oh my good God. This one was straight up offensive. I'm not gonna comment on their idea of "modern feminity" 🤣. But yes the hype for this one was absolutely gobsmacking. I can't find a polite word for it. I admire how polite you are.
    Carmina? Had i tried it? I feel I have I mustn't have hated it. I don't know. It sounds like I'd really dislike it so maybe I haven't, probably passed caring with even bothering with Creed by this stage 🤣.
    Queen of Silk, well it sounds erm. Nail Polish remover, ambroxan and plastic saffron. Yea I guess the far dry down sounds OK. But not remotely interesting. Who doesn't love a "lasssting" scent 😜.
    Thank you Claire for this. It's really hard to get overviews on houses and people talking about samples. Influencers seem to not be able to talk about them? An allergy? Not able to buy samples with their own money? Having to wear them cos they can't just read fragrantica for them all?
    Also I appreciate how objective and very honest you always are. I think Creed are one of them houses cos of the stupid prices that the leather driving gloved Jaguar driving, flat cap wearing people with loads of money don't really care, it's the status of Creed, faux or not. Aventus will never be repeated from them, it was a rare good appealing interesting at the time DNA. And it's own worst enemy with the "batch" issues.
    But yes thank you Claire 😊 don't ever stop being you

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you, you are always very kind, but I should have done some more cross referencing. I find it incredibly confusing that the same website actually has two pages with both sides of the story, yet the page with the brand version isn't linked to the "newer" version of history... so yeah, I get why I missed it. I can't be psychic.
      Yes! We did try Spring Flower! I remember when I first tried that years ago, it actually made me recoil, but nowadays I smell it and it is is so very very mildly indolic, I don't get what I was fussing about 😂 but then we try more fragrances and our tastes move on don't they?!
      Love in White was by far the best here, just not that exciting. Socks very much still on. Honestly I think you'd be underwhelmed by Acqua Di Fiorentina, it was pleasant though 😊 Aventus for her felt like a bit of a cash grab 😉 and it's all downhill from there... I don't know? Did you try Carmina? I think you need to try Carmina if not, and Royal Silk 😉 I know you love head-melty ambroxan!
      Aventus is still a massive seller isn't it? I didn't realise just how popular that one still is! But yeah, for the price of these, I'd just expect far more!
      Thank you for watching as always and for teaching me so much about pretty much everything in the world of fragrance. I am forever grateful 🥰

    Great video, and history lesson however I kept watching for you to address the elephant in the room so to speak - The Ghost Perfumer book is quite fascinating with some incriminating facts, and raises questions about Creed’s history. Personally I tried their fragrances in department stores and none of the ones marketed for women interested me but I did like Irish Tweed. Sublime Vanille was pretty but really overpriced, imo. Virgin Island Water is likewise very nice but overpriced. I think if one could obtain very discounted testers and had no moral qualms about the company then it’s a brand that makes nice products.

      Sorry I've not read it. I knew of it, but only really about the perfumers not being who Creed declared, not its other contents. I should have just stuck to the reviews here... Trying to find out information about Creed was actually very difficult and I now realise why... Anyway, yes I like Virgin Island Water, I think that's the nicest I've tried. I've tried Green Irish Tweed too! I feel they are probably more famous for their male marketed fragrances, but I'm not sure why they are so pricey really... They are quite expensive, especially when their newer ones are as they are. I can imagine Creed being the kind of brand where there are a lot of fake testers out there... Thanks for watching 🥰

Hmmm.. hearing your thoughts on queen of silk makes me wonder whether to get the sample that's sitting in my online basket at the moment, it's only 1/4 of a ml which won't give much of a sillage, but even such a tiny amount is expensive! 😅

    You are absolutely spot on about these newer Creed fragrances smelling better from far away. The only one of these I have is Carmina, which I love on warmer days. I really enjoy the tart cherry in that fragrance, which lasts through the dry down. I do admit the ambroxan sometimes bothers me, but it seems more acceptable than in a lot of fragrances. I smelled Queen of Silk a few weeks ago and agree it smelled like nail polish remover in the opening. It's a very strong fragrance! Great video, Claire.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад

      Yes the cherry is really the stand out in the drydown of Carmina, I had it sprayed on paper for a few days and that is what was left... The dry fruitiness was the most interesting aspect of Carmina. Queen of Silk was a big no to begin with but it dried down better and did smell much nicer in the air than close up. I do really like smelling things close up though 🤦‍♀️ so I don't think these new ones are for me. Thanks for watching 🥰

      Definitely try Virgin Island Water. I think you'd like it! But there are cheaper and similar smelling fragrances out there, there are lots of clones, and also that Malibu party in the bay fragrance is meant to be pretty similar, but I haven't ever smelt it... would love to though! I think you might also like Royal Silk I think, but I'm just guessing. The older ones definitely have a more recognisable house style. Yes they are so expensive aren't they? I was curious, so I'm happy to have tried them, but none were for me.
      Ambroxan is very very prominent in those three, so it could be! It is most noticeable in Wind Flowers but it is also a lot on the other two, it's just that the scent profiles for those two are less delicate so I think they can take more ambroxan before it entirely takes over!

      Yes, seemingly so! I knew they were stretching it, but not quite how much! The information on their website is mostly about general fragrance history rather than their own. It seems like a lot of the time, they are sending fragrances to celebs when they release them to say that they have worn them. Also it seems like they are perhaps inventive with what they say about their commissions when they release them for general sale.

    Creed are a brand that really don't appeal to me - the bottles are gross and their classic vibe isn't really what I go for scent-wise. I definitely see their last 3 releases as an attempt to be a bit "trendy" and modern, and appeal to a more youthful audience. I will likely give Queen of Silk a sniff if I see it in store (I do love tuberose and ambroxan!), but I can't say that I'd go out of my way. Nothing about the brand really feels "me", but I enjoyed the video and good to confirm I'm not being a snob and missing out 🙂

    A couple years ago I did a Creed Smell-A-Thon at Nordstrom and found that I quite enjoyed a number of their male targeted fragrances. There are some creative and timeless juices in the collection, like Green Irish Tweed, Viking, Himalaya, Aventus (of course)…but their marketing/practices are such BS that it really turns me off of the brand entirely. The *actual* perfumers that created these frags deserve compensation and credit, and I just don’t like lining the pockets of grifters.
    And yeah I know they’re probably all grifters “out there”…but now that I know how the sausage is made, so to speak, paying $600 for a bottle of their perfume just isn’t very romantic or exciting 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes I can see that... I've tried quite a few of their male marketed fragrances too in store, but sadly I don't have samples to discuss and I didn't feel like spending more money on these as I didn't love these ones. I was talking to the sales assistant a few months back and she was saying how she much prefers the male marketed fragrances and really only wears those, so clearly a few people feel they are a bit more interesting to wear.
      I do think these are incredibly overpriced sadly... £165 for 30ml is madness to me for these... and I agree that Creed have kinda burnt their own reputation. But I do think that the shadiness of the fragrance industry is probably not just confined to them. We need more explosive books I think! Thanks for watching 🥰
