The Complete Story of Reykjavik Part 2 - The Nice Village Mosfellsbær

  • This is a direct continuation of my series about all towns and villages in Iceland but the greater Reykjavík area gets at least 8 episodes since it consists of 6 municipalities and 8 towns in total. This episode covers Mosfellsbær, a friendly little community with it's own history, only 10 minutes away from central Reykjavík.
Note that the subtitles are not auto generated so Iceland names are spelled correctly so you might want to turn them on.

Being too lazy to drive far to get pictures of the Northern Lights is very beneficial for us out here.....they are beautiful and the photography is great. The reflection in the lake adds to the beauty. Stay lazy!!! 😊

Mosfellsbaer looks like a good place to live. The church appears like an oasis among the landscape. It certainly would be interesting to read its history but I suppose some would find it dull... However lovely the church and its surroundings are, hopefully it is doing well as a “church”. So many aren’t these days...perhaps because they have forgotten Christ is the Head of the Church that is made of those who truly follow Him and meet together in the church buildings to worship Him and encourage each other and then (hopefully) go out and share their joy in the Gospel that He gave to us....Sure enjoy also your Northern Light pictures! Must be nice to see them so often! Thanks for all your great work! 😊👏

I live in a Dutch city of about 150.000 people and I can be out of the city and within 10 minutes on my bicycle (if I go north or northeast). Other directions take at least 15 minutes. I can also be in the city centre within 10 minutes on my bicycle.
Totally different kind of houses you have except for the apartment flats.
    Nice polar lights footage.

I found the different kinds of roofs interesting - from snow shedding with wide overhangs, to flat. I'm sure the roofs there are built quite strong to hold the (insulating) snow load.
Hold your horses - LOL! That was my grandmother's expression. I wonder how many young, city kids know that expression now. It was interesting to see you pass by all those paddocks.

I studied for months before I went to Iceland back in July, and I am still studying and learning! Interesting fact about the gold mine. Generally speaking the geology would be too young to support gold deposits, but as they say, "gold is where you find it". Plenty of hydrothermal vents to bring precious metals up around the country. I have been mining gold (small scale) here in the U.S. for many years. Maybe some time I can get the opportunity to do some exploratory gold panning there.

Thank you once again for such a thrilling ride. 😃 This area could be united into one city, or community, and would then be considered probably allready a medium sized city since I've read the latest numbers on the national registry at 246,300 inhabitants. They could benefit from the merge.

Interesting about a lack of a town centre. That's also common in Australia. It's been suggested here that it's intentional, that there isn't a central gathering place. A possible focus point for protests. Individually, I don't believe anyone involved in planning in this country had that much foresight, but I could of course be wrong. 😁

Egill must have really disliked his kids not to give them his riches, but decided if he can't have it no one can. And as an old man he kills his servants that helped him hide the silver. What a tough old arse.
