- Well today we answer one of the most asked questions from subscribers.... Can I clear coat over Raptor liner to get a better shine? Well..... after this video the answer is... I think so, at least so far. This 2k clear coat seems like it will be the one that will hold up over the rest. We are sure gonna give it our best shot, by applying it during the Raptor Liners tack phase, this will hopefully allow it to adhere to the Raptor liner better. Only time will tell if it is as hard and able to keep up with the Raptor liner.

Alright it’s now 2023.. how is it holding up now
As a regular raptor liner application company rule of thumb also published on upol's site allow raptor to cure for 72 hrs then clearcoat. Have ran into clearcoat hazy if applied earlier.
Respirator would be a good idea spraying the clear . It has activator and hardener in it.

Didn't even think about doing 2k clear over it. I'm about to do my 4runner wheels and a few other parts. Glad I finally have a use for my 5 cans of 2k clear I have. I bought 12 cans total because it's such a great clear coat. Used it when I fixed the sun damage on the carbon fiber hood on for my car. The gloss is better than when I got it new. Awesome stuff

I'm really liking all the various applications you've done....looks great!
A number of years ago we used a product called stone guard, or chip guard. It was very much like bed liner spray, with no color. It was made to be used under base coat/clear coat applications and worked very good. So, I don't see why clear wouldn't work over bedliner.
Ohhhh I’m going to try this. Great tip on the type of clear coat to use. I did the hood of my Dakota in bed liner.
I clear coated over my jeep firewall, and underneath the body and it turned out awesome!

Awesome stuff. Just recommend you guys wear a mask. That stuff adheres to plastic AND lungs!!!
It’s not just that, anything “2K” will contain isocyanates which are permanent exposure. It’s like lead, there is no safe exposure amount and it’s lifetime cumulative. That’s why you see professional painters using positive pressure suits when they paint.
I know this is an old video but how did this hold up. I'm about to do my 2008 JK with the Raptor Liner and was really impressed with the shine. Thanks ahead of time and keep having a great time.

Awesome. Looks great. I found Raptor liner at O'Reillys. Its different than what you used. It sprays, but there no mixing button on the bottom.
The raptor liner didnt have that, the clear coat did
@@GoneJustinSeconds The Raptor liner did have it. If it doesn't have the button, it doesn't contain hardener and is plain Raptor Liner, not the 2k Raptor Liner.
With Hardener it dries/hardens faster and is more durable as well.

Greetings. As of today I just subscribed to your channel after watching your video on the two year update of raptor lining your truck. I'm in the process of building my 2016 Wrangler JKU and have decided to raptor line it as well. Going with black and was wondering if I could add black tint/paint to the product to create a deeper black finish?
Always use a respirator when spraying. Especially 2k clearcoat!!
Looks great. You should use it on your tool box work surface unless it would void your warranty.
If my work surface top ends up failing again then likely yes lol
I tried this after waiting about 45 mins for the raptor to set up, it caused the clear coat to absorb into the raptor and become cloudy making the raptor even less glossy than normal. I also tried it waiting till the next day to clear and it works great.
I cleared mine approximately 4 days after I raptor lined it. Came out great!
Did you add the metal flakes? And is that what you recommend? Wait a day? Did you scuff the raptor liner after waiting?

Would you say its best to let the liner cure first before applying clear coat and also if you don't have any adhesive what grade sand paper would you use

I have been watching your raptor paint videos. I want to paint my golf cart using Raptor, but without any experience with spray painting, I was concerned with not getting an even finish. I am considering doing their roll on application. In your opinion, which application method would you advise for me. I have access to a large 20 gallon air compressor, but no paint booth. Aerosol cans might be the answer, but I am concerned about a consistent even application. That is why I am considering Rolon application, and with a little trial and error and different rollers, I might be able to get the consistency I desire. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I wonder as far as esthetics and cleaning how clear helps I just used hurc bed liner and it has a nice shine so far two washes n the same but I feel bed-liner is rough for like rag snags and stuff with clear makes it more slick

I missed it...did you wait for Raptor to cure...or did you hit it with clear coat after the Raptor 'book' flash off period? About to do this job myself with the standard spray Raptor (1 hour flash time recommended)....but was thinking I would need to let cure, then red brillo scuff first. If your 'wet on wet' technique worked well....than cool I'll try it too!
Me and my son did his entire 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. His first truck, and we waited 72 hours to put 2k clear coat on. I believe that is what it says on the website as well but not sure. After 72 hours we wash and dried the truck then sprayed it from top to bottom. Then let that cure for 24 hours in our garage/spray Booth, turned out fantastic.
I've been wondering, is there any difference between a stone chip coating and a bed liner such as this? I have never seen a stone chip coating irl so it's hard to tell.

Just ran the side by side through trails last weekend and in a dirt drag racing event this weekend....still holding up strong
Any updates yet? Raptor lining the rocker panels and fender flares next weekend on my truck, kind of want to do this now also!

There is Clear Raptor available. Some one try it untinted...

Thanks for this video bro. I wondered how a raptor liner would be with a 2k clear over it. Just based on what you saw from the final product, do you think the raptor liner could be buried in the clear coat with enough coats? I figure that would be a tough but shiny paint job.
Well idk about totally buried but I am gonna do this with a set of wheels here in the next week or so👍🏻
Use the adjustment on the raptor liner spray gun. Set it at 2 rotations . It will lay down very flat . Then ruff it up after the cure and lay down the clear . I used 5 coats.
The raptor liner spray gun that comes with the kits (Shultz gun) has adjustments? Getting ready to do my avalanche cladding and getting all the information I can possibly get before I jump into it. How about where two different colors meet. Is it easy to tape off an area that's already been raptor lined and use a different color with a nice line without bleed over? Don't know if you have had any experience in this but I figured I would ask. Thanks for any info.
@@tellitallnow3914 it's a upgrade for about 65 bucks if I remember correctly. Definitely worth it over the base one it the kits. You can do fairly flat raptor liner all the way to chunky
How long did you let the raptor dry for before spraying the clear? It will be interesting to see how it holds up bc i assume the clear coat is weaker than the raptor liner it self
This is supposed to be one of the strongest 2k clear coats on the market and I allowed the raptor to just dry to the tack phase, so about 15-20 mins

Hey bro we need to know: is your Raptor still holding the clearcoat??? I’m about to do parts of my truck & I am clearcoating on top of it also the same way.
Still holding strong right now.... took it through two days of trail riding and a weekend of dirt drags.
You can clear over raptor with no worries. You just have to let the raptor dry for approx 2-3 days. I did a Vw golf, complete and cleared the whole car 2 years ago. Still looks like the day I sprayed it

They are plastic flares so it would be the exact same process.

I raptor linered my entire truck about a month ago. Do you think the 2k would hold up okay if I spray it now?
For the clear🤷♂️ idk.... it’s a crap shoot bc I’ve never tried that on raptor that’s already setup and cured

Do you have any idea how dangerous the isocyanates contained within hardener are?! For god's sake do some reading and get some proper PPE

Yes. Cleaning really well, scuff it, use a self etching primer and shoot it.

Oh no, it’s also available on amazon. Depends on which vendor you get it from, it’s about $37 a can. More discount usually if u buy a 4 pack.
This thing takes so long to cure & gas out id be afraid to lay clearcoat over it...

It was still holding up great when I sold it a few months ago.
Hey next time use a mask. That stuff is 2K. Need you around. This comes from the guy who painted lacquer with no mask back in the day.
Spraying clear without a respirator is like asking for cancer in a year
I like your coverage of the topic but sometimes I don't have the patience to watch the whole video and listen to people talk just to see the turnout. Maybe tell them what your doing and show results in the first 30 seconds then tell more detailed info. I like many others on youtube search a specific topic looking for something and we promptly want to see if this is what we are looking for just sayin. Beyond that good video.
WEAR A RESPIRATOR WITH ANY ACTIVATED URETHANE SPRAY - Your lungs - etc... are worth a lot more than $50- worth of PPE.

Why not call the manufacturer and show what they say? Everyone wants to answer questions without asking the source. Why? Just ask the creator of the product, then if they say Yes, then do the demonstration of their answer.
And if you do something seemingly acceptable or as desired initially, that's pointless unless it lasts, and you should have follow up for everything you do as trying to be a "Reviewer" for others to follow.
2K paints require a respirator!!!!
Please use one or it can do long term damage to your lungs.
