even without the increased volume. i love watches and found this channel though michael’s other channel, iron snail, which is incredible. christian just isn’t as down to earth enough for me i think 😅
Just bought a Zenith and it's amazing. If someone recognizes it (fairly unlikely), they'll recognize that it's valuable, but more importantly they'll know that I'm a fan of watches. If you see a Rolex, sure it holds value, but that's basically all you see now. Even if you think that the wearer maybe likes watches, you'll still think "but they own that because of the money/value (retention)". Otherwise, they'd be wearing something cooler. My Zenith doesn't show off money, or look like I intend (or need) to get my money back for it later. And I think that's cool.
Absolutely right. Zenith is way cooler than Omega, IWC, Tudor, etc and especially Rolex. I bought a De Luca El Primero and have just bought a 1990s Rainbow Flyback in French Airforce colours after wanting one for 25 years. That thing is sub-zero cool. If You Know , You Know. I don't want Zenith to get any more popular than it is because it would destroy all that. Zenith. El Primero. The Best.
Agreed on secondary prices. Got Defy Classic Ceramic black skeleton dial for $5k and El Primero Chrono 38mm 1/10th for $6.7k. Full sets and perfect condition. Great watches!
There was time when I was unaware of the pre owned Zenith market and I would just say “SHUCKS, not spending that tho” and then I stumbled onto that market and was blown away. Buying preowned Z’s is playing chess in a game of checkers.
If you loves watches - you love Zenith. ❤ There‘s no doubt about that. It‘s about history. About authenticity. About originality. Love my Chronomaster Original. Love your content, Michael, The Buddy of the Creator of Theo&Harris Watch Shop.
My first Swiss watch was a 39mm Zenith Rainbow Flyback - No modern watch under £10k even comes close to it - A new Zenith aside. 39mm, In-house chronograph movement with Flyback function, runs better than cosc, slim under 12mm, telemeter on inside chapter ring, bezel with minutes, it has charm and history being orignally designed for a French Airforce contract. I still have the watch today and love it.
I really like zenith too and it's because they are a watch brand that is not afraid to innovate. If you look at their el premiro or even the elite caliber, these movements just are classic but they also have a lot of really cool features built into them. And then you have watches like the defy inventor and the defy skyline (as well as the revival) which are just really cool. Not to mention all the cool skeletonized carbon fiber / ceramic watches.
I personally think the El Primero line are the most gorgeous chronos of any brand. The Daytona has nothing on them in terms of looks. They also used to have Zenith movements in them
I concur with this sentiment, I think GS rivals them with the new tentograph but Zenith has them beat with a deep roster and originality at the moment 👌
I wasn't a Zenith fan until a few years ago when they released the A384 reissue, which I own (panda dial version), and love. It wears amazing, and of course, the El Primero chronograph movement is legendary. I also love their Chronomaster Original. Although Zenith didn't end up being the FIRST to market with an automatic chronograph, they can still claim to be the first to market with a FULLY INTEGRATED automatic chronograph. Heuer's Chromatic was actually a modular chronograph, and much thicker than Zenith's. Zenith was also the first to build a vertically integrated factory, in which they owned and controlled the entire end-to-end manufacturing process.
Probably the biggest bummer for me with W&W this year was that they didn't do another A384/Revival model, not even a limited/boutique edition. God I love that watch, I just want them to expand the line more.
Glad you're making a case for Zenith. Much has been written about their history as a brand, their contribution to movement tech, and of course their involvement in the 16520 generation of Daytona, yet they still get dissed (mostly in the U.S.) as being linked to the TV company from the 80s and 90s, or for beings some kind of also-ran brand. I think the current Defy and Chronometer Original lines are both super cool and unique. And with the exception of their clasps, which Rolex fully dominates on, I think Zenith's offerings are every bit as worthy of appreciation - both from a technical and craftsmanship perspective.
My grandpa always wears a Zenith. He is one of the reasons I got into watches, so I really apreciate the brand. Great video! I always looked for a vintage defy so that new defy is a dream come true.
Hi thanks again for a nice video; I am considering buying exactly the same as yours since a little while now (revival Shadow) but I'm scared about how much/fast it will wear off. I read some things about the coating not being resistant at all. Can you tell me more about it? what is your experience so far?
I don't want to talk bad about a guy while he is away, but I like these videos lately. Kind of a throw back to the type of videos that used to make me fall in love with this hobby. Watch talk for the rest of us. Not the love affair over rolex all the time.
I have a 30 year old, quartz Zenith, secs, mins, hours, day, date, month, moon phase - it is brilliant, and it gives me the time. I recently bought a Zenith Open heart Chronomaster with a silver dial, beautiful but useless a time piece, every time I look at it to find the time, I end up admiring how brilliant all the bits are for so long I forget to remember why I was looking at it 🤣
Your el primero re-edition is awesome. I started out with a Sugess homage/ copy because I was so afraid I would lose interest in it. But it grew on me, and I love it even more
Snagged the chronomaster original a few months ago… just didn’t give it much wrist time and ended up moving it along this week… probably give another one a try but couldn’t quite put my finger on why other than me not being a big chronograph guy. Love the recently discontinued skeleton defy tho, might have to find one.
Couldn't agree more, Michael. Zenith is a sleeper and I'm ok with that. Makes the pre-owned very affordable. Like Christian, I love precious metal and my chrono 51.2150.400 with rose gold bezel and indices is a stunner!. Great history, great time piece.
Totally agree . Zenith's are amazing time pieces, especially for those who truly understand the quality of mechanical movements and true aficionados of quality time pieces. I was comparing a Daytona , Breitling and the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster sport. . Checking them out in person , IMHO , the Zenith was a clear winner when it came to build quality , refinement, The movement -3600 , which is superior to the 4131 rolex movement , and the classy Glass back , and ceramic bezel. Thanks for a great Video ..
I love Zenith. I was trying to buy the Zenith blue dial on a Titanium bracelet two years ago. But my 8 inch wrist was an issue. No one could source two extra links. I have to pass and went back to Tudor, because their bracelets fit me out of the box.
I am owning a A384 with a custom made rallye style strap and my girlfriend only watch is a Defy Midnight which is awesome, as you said they are a good deal on the secondary market
In light of the revealed pricing of the new Ingenieur, the Zenith Defy Skyline becomes an even more compelling stainless-steel integrated bracelet watch in the
agree on zenith. I heard some boiler room watch bruv channel say the defy was an homage to a royal oak ( zenith was out first sooo). The defy skyline skeleton looks amazing, the el primero movement has been world class since 1969. They push design which does not always work but they take risks.
Michael (or anyone who is reading the comments), can you please give me your opinion on Zenith Lupin 3rd A384 Chronomaster? I am specifically asking about the white panda dial. Should I get the normal black / white A384 or the special edition Lupin the 3rd white / black panda?
@@Mik01ist I was looking at the white dial, Lupin the 3rd 2nd edition and like that one the best. Again, not sure if the extra price justifies the watch. Lupin the 3rd is not a well-known cartoon here in America. It might be a better deal just buy a regular A384.
Agree, Zenith is amazing and loved the brand even more after a recent viewing. Their movements, case and dials are top-notch, but something they need to improve is the bracelet as well as clasp. Nevertheless, something to add to your to-buy list
I think I draw the line at "watch condoms." Makes me think of the saying in the watch world that goes something like, "So you're just gonna baby that thing until someone else gets to actually enjoy it?"
This is my first time seeing your videos and I clicked on it because I’m going all in on the Zenith but I have to tell you, you are my new favorite watch blogger because the intro, the horn of hair and crooked picture. Comment is pretty cool and pretty funny! thanks for the great video and I look forward to more to come
The Zenith Pilot is a very good looking watch, though think it should have a bracelet option too along with a titanium option. Better looking than the IWC XX I would say, with better mechanism, but a little more expensive. Grade 5 Ti has aluminum and vanadium in it, hence 6Al-4V in the designation. Grade 2 is commercially pure Ti (i.e. may have very slight amount of other elements, but no intentional alloying, Grades 1-4 are all considered commercially pure) and has higher ductility and formability. Grade 5 is usually used where greater strength needed, but both grades plenty strong enough for watches. Grade 5 is the most common Ti used, and Grade 23 is Grade 5 but less impurities and a bit stronger and used in medical devices-I think only Blancpain uses Grade 23 in watches.
Agreed, Zenith makes really interesting, innovative watches that don't get enough attention. A little askew from mainstream. Picked up a Charles Vermot limited edition and look forward to collecting more!
I love the El Primero chronos too man, they’re incredible. I got to handle one on a trip about a month ago and I was honestly a little bummed at how small and slight it is in hand compared to how it looks on a screen. I’m a big dude that loves watches, and I just don’t like the way it looks when I feel like I have a tiny cased watch on my wrist and that watch is so much smaller than it’s reputation. TELL THEM TO MAKE AT LEAST A 42 PLEASE!!
Oh you gotta get the big pilot aeronef that Arnold has 😅.. zenith eronef it came out yrs ago though 😊 I think the zenith doublematic is 42mm . It's kinda like JLC compressor look. They also came out about 10yrs ago. Also another big piece is the zenith stratos..the 1 worn by space jumper felix baumgartner. Check them out.🎉
Don't worry Michael. You have one Zenith fan here. In fact, i just swap my zenith el primero 42 grey with the white one. I have waited for so long. And I Adore it! ZENITH is awsome Broo.. it is slim, beats fast and smooth and goood looking!
Yes unfortunately RUclips "experts" are in on the con of hyping and flipping rolex . They change color of bezel suddenly it's an innovation in horology😅 Others come up with genuine new engineering..they nitpick every single detail as if they themselves could do better.😅 My el primero is really beautiful.. it's 20+ yrs old and still looks more beautiful inside and out than current rolex pieces. I have Rolexes btw, and when you handle an el primero then switch to holding a rolex in hand..the difference is jarring. Zenith's are much more refined.
There are some problems with this video. 1) You left out that the El Primero was the first integrated Chronograph movement 2) The flyback explanation was confusing. The difference is you can reset to zero and start timing again without having to press stop.
Michael -- wouldn't be you without the horn hair. And I don't get the Zenith-lurking-in-the-shadows thing either. Their Chronomaster Sport is at the top of the mountain. If you're shopping for a chronograph, it's Zenith or Nivada Grenchen, depending on your budget. Everything else is a distraction.
Zenith is definitely going places. I really like their Defy Skyline and Defy Revival line, and of course their chronographs are classic. The Pilot line doesn't do a thing for me though.
Zenith is there with Breguet (in different ways) as the most criminally underrated watch brands out there. It’s truly absurd. Zenith has been crushing it for a LONG time now.
The Life of El Primero Zenith releases a song, after storming the stage as the Daytona wins ‘watch of the year’ award. Controversial opening lyric “I made that b***h famous”
zenith is highly underated, quality is by far the best you get in the price range, without question. also, wish you would have mentioned how zenith has a patent for "pilot", as they are the only watchmaker to include on their watches, that's why the airking is called airking. also wish you mentioned the new ceramic defy skyline, soooo siiick! anyways, thanks for the zenith video. 90%+ of people tend to like what they are told, especially in the watch world.
The singular form of 'indices' is 'index' :P Just kidding; great video and Zenith chronographs are my favourite too! The Dark Shadow is one of my grails!
2:20 My attention was 100% locked on to that rogue hair horn for a considerable amount of time before you paused the video and excused yourself of it 😂 Also, first time watching your channel here, and I'm surprised nobody mentioned Wolverine.
Just only got into Zenith after buying my vintage zenith movado Museum watch , with the „Swiss Zenith Quartz“ on it and came to realize that zenith has the nicest looking chronographs IMHO
I'm a big fan of Zenith. IMHO their watches are some of the best bang for your buck. My first Zenith was a Defy skeleton dial in titanium. It was such a unique piece at the time that I regret selling it when I needed cash. More recently I added a Chronomaster Sport white dial to my collection. Despite the obvious similarities to the Daytona, I much prefer the 1/10 sec track and the movement is far superior. All that's to say I'm with you that Zenith is very underrated even though they produce some fine watches.
Couldn't agree more. Zenith's are absolutely belting watches with fantastic horological history. I've been banging on about them for over 25 years. Just amazing value for money..
(Also, the whole camera is tilted a bit...unless the bookshelves on either side of you aren't level. "Didn't think we'd notice, but we did!") ANYWAY! I really like the Defy Skyline. I want one, but I'm just not a fan of that 10 second hand. Change that, and I'm all about it!
I love Zenith and they never get the coverage they deserve. Thank you.
Christian needs to go away more often if this is the volume of videos we get..
💯
I've thumbed up the last four videos immediately. Coincidence? I think not... 😊
even without the increased volume. i love watches and found this channel though michael’s other channel, iron snail, which is incredible. christian just isn’t as down to earth enough for me i think 😅

Daytona having 5 year waitlists going 3 times the retail price in grey market proves its thousands times better over these crap looking Zeniths lol
I like the zenith el primero sports panda. Looks stunning

Big Zenith fan! I have a defy 21 skeleton and its one of my favs!
I love both the chronomaster as well as the defy... defy skeleton and the chrono original are two of my all time favorite
zenith is highly underated, quality is by far the best you get in the price range, without question. also, wish you would have mentioned how zenith has a patent for "pilot", as they are the only watchmaker to include on their watches, that's why the airking is called airking.
also wish you mentioned the new ceramic defy skyline, soooo siiick! anyways, thanks for the zenith video. 90%+ of people tend to like what they are told, especially in the watch world.
I enjoyed that one! Nice pieces that I did not knkw about
Hey, I owned a Zenith TV once. Does that count? If not, that's ok. I love me some Zenith watches as well. Go, Micheal, loving all the videos 📹
The singular form of 'indices' is 'index' :P
Just kidding; great video and Zenith chronographs are my favourite too!
The Dark Shadow is one of my grails!
“ short explanation because I don’t know the long explanation” what a vibe
The smoothest wind on a watch was on my Zenith... bar none.
2:20 My attention was 100% locked on to that rogue hair horn for a considerable amount of time before you paused the video and excused yourself of it 😂 Also, first time watching your channel here, and I'm surprised nobody mentioned Wolverine.
I sure have never forgotten about them. Huge fan of the brand
I give this video two horns of hair UP! 🦄🦄
Huge Zenith fan here.
