Another excellent video Alexander. I think you are the best watch presenter on RUclips. I tried on the reverse panda version of the A386 on the bracelet (I prefer bracelets), and I think Zenith made a mistake on the end links. This model has high lugs, and the end links protrude out giving a high wide stance on the wrist. They should have either made better female end links or even made straight end links similar to how the strap sits. I own the white Chronomaster Sport (after watching your video), and this same type of bracelet sits perfect on the wrist with the down turned lugs of that model. Like you always suggest, it's best to try on the watch and let your heart decide.
These Zeniths are super nice! Zenith has been doing so many good things lately! Your review of the Chronomaster Sport moved me from my sofa to the AD 100kms away to place a deposit on the black dial version. Delivery in 6 months. I'm sure I can handle the wait. I have photo of it as a screensaver on my mobile phone as a daily reminder of what is coming and also to refrain from any impulse watch purchase I might regret. Thank you for your excellent work Alexander! Greetings from Australia!
As i was having my morning coffee and watching this (another) great video, my favorite AD texted me that they had received one of the new Zenith releases, and asked me if I wanted to see it. An hour later the watch was mine, ( video finished watching it just now😊). Great looking watch in person as well, keep up the good work Zenith , and you mr. Alexander thank you for another great review
Its always a pleasure watching Zenith watch reviews. They are such a wonder in watch making and also gave us opportunities to buy these reproduction or continuing the old model lines. Great video and good job Alexander!
The case dimensions are a much needed changed from all those huge watches. 38mm x 12.6mm is just perfect! If they could get the power reserve to 70hrs+, it would be a home run! Excellent coverage as always! Thank you for the great video!
My pleasure! 70 + hours of PR in that tiny size is very challenging... If the quality of mainsprings improves furthermore it can be done, otherwise not...
Great video, Alex. It's great to see one of my favourite brands release yet another fantastic El Primero edition. It's so faithful to the original A386, same at they did with the A384 on the ladder bracelet. I will eventually add this to my collection when my budget can absorb it. Zenith is bringing vision to reality with these new models. Bravo!
@@WatchAdvisor Zenith are getting the recognition and respect they so deserve. Hey Alex, perhaps in future videos you can highlight the boxes they come with, my A384 came with a great smaller travel size box within the larger box, in addition to the heritage microfibre (with images of original A384s and A386s) cloth and the USB stick. Honestly, the packaging it is far more impressive than many other models that command higher or same prices...
Thank you, Alexander, great stuff! She's a beauty! For me, this is getting close to perfect from Zenith - the classic design, in the great size, but with the 1/10th counter. Possibly, I could moan at 'only' 50m WP and no bracelet quick adjust; but those details wouldn't dissuade me - and there is always the Sport. This is the watch I've been waiting for from Zenith.
I am happy to read this! Thanks for sharing! These are almost perfect ... there is only little room for improvements - yes! E.g. the clasp ... Let me know if you have any questions...
For those interested, I can confirm the website is incorrect and the watch has 19/16mm lugs and not 20/16 as stated on the spec sheet. I just went to the boutique to check this.
Well done! As usual, of course, Alexander, a wonderfully informative review. And excellent photos as well. I am glad Zenith has retained the 38mm size on this remarkable timepiece. Very good to see, on the leather straps, that Zenith continues to use rubber for the inside. I have an A385 on leather. We are currently having a heat wave here in Western Canada. This is the only watch I have with a leather strap, that I am able to wear. The rubber lining prevents perfectly moisture from perspiration soaking and discoloring the leather. A small thing perhaps, but worth mentioning. I truly appreciate your explanation of how to properly read the 1/10th of a second as well. Although I have a larger wrist, I find this size to be perfect. Reverse Panda would be my choice. My only negative observation would be to say that I wish they had made the sub dial colors more vivid as the previous versions. However, that may take away from their efforts to give the watch a more vintage look. Thank You! Cheers, Carl
Carl, I have heard about the Canadian heat wave… far more than 40 degrees centigrade 🥵 Thank you very much for the kind feedback! I am happy that I could explain you how to read the 1/10th of a second… If you still have (other) questions, please let me know… Greetings from Vienna!
Thanks for the great review as always! I’m considering adding a chrono to my small collection and this watch is at the top of my list because of its size (I have a small wrist) . One concern that I have is that it’s lugs sit high leaving a larger gap between the lugs and the wrist when worn. Did you find that as a problem? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing our passion! My wrist size is 17 cm/ 6,7 in … does this help you when you watch the video again? And then you should try it on your wrist …
I have been writing it before... I filmed the watches already in March... these were still prototypes ... it is therefore possible ... I did not see it though, otherwise I would have mentioned it ... the watches your buy now will certainly be perfect...
Respect to mr Julien. He moves Zenith to good direction with all revival series and Defy series. Zenith should use AP terms "to break the rules, you must master them" And yes, Zenith already master the chrono movement and break the rules with Defy series. Small case defy series is what I need now
Is a 40mm version planned to be released, as for the previous model? I think that the dial would look less busy and more symmetrical, thanks to the date at six. Thanks
Great review! Zenith did a great job on this one. I only question the price. How many people will pay $9000 for a steel Zenith? I wonder if they will be available for the typical 20-30% discount. This watch may be better than a comparable Tudor, Oris, Tag Heuer, or Longines. However, is it worth nearly twice the price? It’s even $1000+ more than a Breitling Chrono.
Some brands are selling too expensive, some not expensive enough … Comparing Zenith to others and ask the question “is it worth the double price” is the wrong approach since this doesn’t apply for any brand… We are talking about pure luxury products and the price is not reflecting the real but the perceived value. The latter is built by the brand and its positioning … the communication departement does the rest … Luxury goods have to be seen emotionally and not rationally… the markets do anyhow regulate the rest…
At $8400 Im not sure there's a finer chronograph you can buy. Has the El Primero movement, the movement's finish is superb, the build quality immense, the history unmatched, the 38mm size is perfect on any wrist. A Daytona will cost you $30-40,000 unless you are Mr Wonderful and in many ways will be an inferior watch. A Speedmaster sapphire sandwich at $7K might be the best comparison. It has the same documented history and is superbly built, but its movement is not on the same planet as the El Primero 36,000. You do get a steel bracelet for the Speedy so that does even things a bit better. But its also a way bigger watch. The Speedy is a dinner plate by comparison. I like them both but for my money the Zenith chronomaster is unbeatable for what you are getting.
I am glad about the longer power reserve and hacking seconds but not sure how I feel about losing the 12 hr counter. The only thing I ever use chronos for is to time elapsed duration in long-haul flights. This 1 hr limit isn't sufficient even for a regular Formula 1 race. So I am split in my emotions. I had a plan to buy the chronomaster within the next couple of years. Now I dont know should I go for the updated version or for the one that just discontinued ;(
Thank you! i am highly considering it. Can you provide more info on the bracelet? I know it is 19mm width, but it seems like it is tappered. What is the clasp width? Does it taper to 16mm? 17mm? or 18mm?
Thank you for the great review Alexander, I love the style of the steel versions, I think the reverse panda dial would be my preference. The case is also an interesting shape with a type of retro modern look. The rehaut seems to mirror the values on the chapter ring but looks at first glance to be a tachemeter scale but isn't, a clever trick. I'm not sure about the date position but it wouldn't be a show stopper if I was in the market for another chronograph.
Thank you for your feedback! I like these A386… the size would be my show stopper though… Over the years I got so much used to bigger watches that I would have a hard time to get used to 38 mm again…
Great review as usual!! Do you know if the case is exactly the same as the one used for the Manufacture edition and if therefore the steel bracelet could be used with that edition? Thank you for all the great reviews!
Hi, see my comment: I have exactly the same idea but the lug widhts are different. 20 mm new and 19 for Manufacture Edition (download of product sheets of both watches) - I have asked Alexander to really check this. It would be such a pity
Lots of auto chronos under 14mm but all high end. Breguet, blancpain, JLC, AP, VC, Bvlgari if you really want thin. In the old days most of these aside from JLC used F piguet 1185 movement.
@@MrNt1402 this is true though you would think a modular chrono would be thicker but thinness is achievable because 2892 base so thin. Problem is modular chronos just not that interesting to look at from the back.
How water resistant are the watches I love the watch and other Zenith models but it seems to me a watch like this one should have screw down crown and buttons Thanks
Please “Google” testing watertightness watches… you will find lots of videos/articles… + 25% means that the cases are tested to 25 percent more than the official, guaranteed meter/feet …
One info please..if you check on the site, the pictures are with "white" dial, and i see theyr totally differents from your video imagines with "grey/aregente soleil dial", so i don't understand if the differents is just from apparence or the zenith are producting another color respect the prototype you have on the video..? I really thank you, if you clear me this point.
The difference you see ist the one in between reality and photoshop 😉 you therefore should always check a watch in natural light before really making up your mind… websites mostly show “wrong” colors …
Hi Alex, If I am going to get only 1 chronograph into my collection, How is this Zenith compare to 1. Omega new Speedmaster 2. Tudor Black Bay Chrono Which one would you pick and why?
It is difficult to compare the two watches… one is heavily fueled with history, is part of the heritage of the Swiss Watch Industry, is an iconic and sought after chronograph, whilst the other is “only” the remake of a chronograph so far…
Yes! Finally the A386 successor! I knew they will come out just as I predicted in previous of your videos half a year ago! One downside is why no full bracelet version for gold. Also, no ladder bracelet :( Edit: Also, Zenith shouldn't put diamonds on these, please! I don't understand but for the women I know who love watches they hate those.
I dream about the steel version everyday hopefully I can get one very soon 😇💞💞💞💞💞 Thank you so much for this joy you gave us Alexander by showing these watches 🥰🙏 but I wish you resize the bracelet so we can see it properly on your hand 😢 + I wanna see the deployant clasp on the wrist 😔
Great pesentation ad.s usual. The watches , look fantastic, although i would not recomend them to anyone who suffers from epelepsy. The speed of the sencond hand is wild :-) 38 mm is a bit small for me, but their 42 mm are impressive. MORE COLOURS NEEDED!!! What is the warranty on Zenith Watches?
Thanks Alexander! Great Video! - Finally - the update of the 38 mm El Primero Models from 1969 with the usual colours of the subdials. I like them more than the bigger brothers with the 42 mm case. BTW where has the name El Primero gone? However there is something weird: I thought to take the new wonderful steel bracelet and to mount it on the El Primero Manufacture Edition (Ref. 03.Z386.400/60.C843), also 38 mm case like the new Chronomaster Original However the product sheets are showing different inter lug widhts: 20 mm for new releases and 19 mm for the Manufacture Edition? Really!? Dear Alexander, could you please check if this is really the case? You have very good contacts to the CEO of Zenith Julien Tornare. It would be so good to have interchangeable straps/bracelets for both 38 mm models. Both together are still cheaper than a Daytona on the grey market and they breathe much more history. Greetings from Germany
It is 19 > 16! I just got the confirmation from the Head of Product Development. So the bracelets are interchangeable … in between the various re-editions…
The rose gold version is beautiful and the one I’d pick. For the steel version, I’d prefer the recently released “manufacture” edition with the older movement and 3 blue sub-dials.
@@WatchAdvisor can you elaborate why ? I love the overall style, but find it sometimes a bit large, not so much on the wrist (can wear 51mm l-2l), rather the dial with 36-37mm.
Interesting. Will miss the El Primero 400 in this size. The 3600 risks turning their whole line into "New Coke". NIce to have a dial with only white subdials, not sure about the fauxtina though.
I just hope they release a version of the 3600 with the same functionality of the calibre 400, with a 12 hr sub-dial. the 1/10 of a second looks cool but is completely useless in day to day life IMH.
I expect some new variations to follow later. Actually Zenith works hard to deliver what was ordered. I have heard the success of the new models literally surprised them the a bit …
I completely agree - I always use my chronographs to time things for periods over an hour, so while I love the aesthetic of the new models, the lack of a 12-hr recorder is a dealkiller for me as well.
All three watch heads are beautiful but they deserve a nicer, original bracelet design. They're using the same rip-off of the Rolex Daytona Oyster bracelet as the Chronomaster Sport. The clasp design is identical to the Rolex.
Zenith says though: ”The steel bracelet has been reimagined, foregoing the open ‘ladder’ design of the 1960s for solid links that are sumptuously chamfered and decorated in the same fashion as the case.”
@@WatchAdvisorthat's fair enough but don't believe them to be honest. They need to reimagine the reimagination if this is the best they can do 😉 A watch this nice deserves better.
@@stewester I just quoted what they wrote… and I agree with you that there is room for improvements… 😉 You might have heard in the video that I was not impressed either…
@@WatchAdvisor I think he means when adjusting time, to turn the minute hands backwards. But this watch can hack, and as long as you don’t turn it backwards over 12, it should be fine?
You better not ... keep them and think about buying a Zenith later ... These watches aren't limited, so they are going to be available for years now ...
Dear Zenith, please do consider open Boutique In HCM city, VietNam 😔. Im between this model & santos de cartier. I have Defy skeleton aldready but still in love the brand😁
@@WatchAdvisor Must of missed it, my mistake. I did see it in another video but I don't understand why they would attach such a big clasp or buckle with a spring bar on this (and some many other models) creating another potential point of failure as in both sides of the case? That and why nobody ever mentions it either.
New model, but company looking for save money. Bracelet clasp is, realy cheap. Previous model, has better clasp. This clasp soolution, not for this money. Zenith is premium brand, or not?. Thanks for video😊.
Just because it’s true. A chronograph without 1/10 is useless 🤷🏻♂️. - Mouvement are better => 5hz and 50hz vs 4hz - True and very strong history in chronograph - Same provider (in the past) for lot of parts (bracelet) - better price for the quality -better sales services - … I have 2 zenith (chronomaster and a defy) and the defy skyline is for me the best watch and choice under 20kE… particulary’the ceramic version in skeleton
For normal people 36mm or less is a women's size nowadays, but a modern James Bond would wear a black 50mm resin quartz watch (because that's what the military is wearing today, and it would shock people just like a tuxedo with a dive watch did in the early sixties).

@@WatchAdvisor thanks, so you confirm me the color of dial will be like your watches on the video, argente/soleil..?
Lovely watches. Will the metal bracelet on this new model fit the old 1969 38mm model? Both are 19mm lug width
Yes, as far I know yes…
@@WatchAdvisor thanks, merry Christmas!
Yes
Rose gold THE BEST!⭐
Thanks for sharing
Hi Alex,
If I am going to get only 1 chronograph into my collection,
How is this Zenith compare to
1. Omega new Speedmaster
2. Tudor Black Bay Chrono
Which one would you pick and why?
Omega and zenith are classics, Tudor is a current model that will probably be improved upon an become less desirable with time
It is difficult to compare the two watches… one is heavily fueled with history, is part of the heritage of the Swiss Watch Industry, is an iconic and sought after chronograph, whilst the other is “only” the remake of a chronograph so far…
Yes! Finally the A386 successor! I knew they will come out just as I predicted in previous of your videos half a year ago!
One downside is why no full bracelet version for gold. Also, no ladder bracelet :(
Edit:
Also, Zenith shouldn't put diamonds on these, please! I don't understand but for the women I know who love watches they hate those.
I remember you did!! 👍🏼 Voila, here they are…
@@WatchAdvisor Awesome!
I dream about the steel version everyday hopefully I can get one very soon 😇💞💞💞💞💞
Thank you so much for this joy you gave us Alexander by showing these watches 🥰🙏
but I wish you resize the bracelet so we can see it properly on your hand 😢 + I wanna see the deployant clasp on the wrist 😔
I can’t resize all the bracelets - sorry! … I always tell them that my wrist size is 17 cm and ask them to adjust it to my wrist.
Great pesentation ad.s usual. The watches , look fantastic, although i would not recomend them to anyone who suffers from epelepsy. The speed of the sencond hand is wild :-)
38 mm is a bit small for me, but their 42 mm are impressive. MORE COLOURS NEEDED!!!
What is the warranty on Zenith Watches?
Warranty is two years... www.zenith-watches.com/int/service/international-warranty
03.Z386.400/60.C843), also 38 mm case like the new Chronomaster Original
However the product sheets are showing different inter lug widhts: 20 mm for new releases and 19 mm for the Manufacture Edition?
Christian, I will find it out tomorrow and let you know…
It is 19 > 16! I just got the confirmation from the Head of Product Development. So the bracelets are interchangeable … in between the various re-editions…
Is this vertical clutch ?
No!
At these price points there should be a tool-less clasp adjustment included. The bigger brands can definitely learn something from micros.
There is in fact room for improvements ....
Stunning watches! I just wish it hugged the wrist a bit closer. The lugs seem to be floating away from the wrist.
They are a copy of ones from 1969 ... with all the beauty and some flaws ...
So the price has also been updated, with UP being the operative part of the word update
The rose gold version is beautiful and the one I’d pick. For the steel version, I’d prefer the recently released “manufacture” edition with the older movement and 3 blue sub-dials.
I hear you! Thanks for sharing! Did you watch our video of the Manufacture Edition?
Indeed the rose gold version looks great. I just felt if Zenith could give us an option to purchase the rose gold bracelet.
@@WatchAdvisor I did. Tempting purchase!
What's the lug width?
19 > 16
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks! 👍
If case is the same as a386, then definitely 19 mm. I'm 99.9% sure it's 19mm.
19 > 16!
@@WatchAdvisor do you say then the case is different that in A386?
Great review Alex. Would you trade your 42mm Chronomaster for one of these ?
No! This is a special watch for me…
@@WatchAdvisor can you elaborate why ? I love the overall style, but find it sometimes a bit large, not so much on the wrist (can wear 51mm l-2l), rather the dial with 36-37mm.
I seldom sell a watch I like... Why should I? There is no specific reason...
@@WatchAdvisor me neither, but I am sometimes tempted here, because of the dial size. The design is superb, no doubt.
I wouldn't wear one of these... too small for me... size matters for me...
Is someone can give me an advice I just saw a zenith elprimero original 2015 pre owned at 8200 Canadian dollars any advice to buy or buy a brand new
It is impossible to give any advice without seeing the watch ... pre owned can mean a lot for that money... Sorry!
Reverse panda would be my choice,
It looks very sporty
Thanks foe sharing!
Interesting. Will miss the El Primero 400 in this size. The 3600 risks turning their whole line into "New Coke". NIce to have a dial with only white subdials, not sure about the fauxtina though.
There will be both the 400 and the 3600 …
@@WatchAdvisor I hope Zenith makes that reverse panda with the 400 movement.
@Alexander. Do you know if the leather strap comes in different length?
Yes, Zenith offers different sizes… Your AD should have them on stock…
Man that reverse panda ….I want one
I hear you! Let me know if you have any questions….
The Original is better than the Sport version... it's more classy, especially for the reverse panda. 😉😉
You are spoilt for choice ... Isn't that great?
I like this one in reverse panda.
Bravo! You are not the only one 😉…
What is the size of the bracelet? 20mm? 22mm? Tapered?
19 >>> 16 mm
Combien coûte ces trois belles montres ?👍
Il faut regarder la vidéo pour découvrir… 😉
Very nice, too bad no one will buy them, everyone is chasing the hype train
That is the awesome part! I can get these at a discount and at no waitlist.
“No one” … that’s a bit exaggerated 😉 Sorry!
I will get one ;)
@@lipinglin1994 still overprice with discounts. i will get the b01
I agree 100%!
@@enricosace maybe we should start a petition 😉
You are not supposed to turn the time anti-clockwise when setting the time...
I don’t get the point? Can you please specify?
@@WatchAdvisor I think he means when adjusting time, to turn the minute hands backwards. But this watch can hack, and as long as you don’t turn it backwards over 12, it should be fine?
@@tonyye5909 I hear you, thanks! You can turn the minute hand back as long as you want and you will not harm the mechanism…
I love the tri color, but I would have to trade my Speedmaster and my Seamaster for it.
I will forward your comment to Julien Tornare …
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks WA. Do appreciated that
The black one looks like a chrono version of a 70s Sub Sea.
Agreed!
A future watch for my collection -:)
Which one will you choose?
@@WatchAdvisor that’s the problem - I don’t know… but it’s between the reverse panda or the gold one
@@andersjensen1499 Let me know if you have any questions… 😉
Didnt show the buckle on the strap models 🤷♂️🤦♂️
??? It is a simple pin buckle… and you see it in the video…
@@WatchAdvisor Must of missed it, my mistake. I did see it in another video but I don't understand why they would attach such a big clasp or buckle with a spring bar on this (and some many other models) creating another potential point of failure as in both sides of the case? That and why nobody ever mentions it either.
@@sicasspressinfoo6752 Can you please specify what you exactly mean? I do not understand you… 🤷🏻♂️
@@WatchAdvisor how manufactures attach pinbuckles with spring bars to straps sometimes and why was the gist
May I ask you to further specify your remark and let me know what you would suggest to be changed?
New model, but company looking for save money. Bracelet clasp is, realy cheap. Previous model, has better clasp. This clasp soolution, not for this money. Zenith is premium brand, or not?. Thanks for video😊.
There is room for improvement - YES!
Now, make a smaller defy 21
Why? This is a re-edition of a watch that dates back to 1969… So why changing the size of the actual Defy?
Retro-Uhren sind nicht so mein Ding. Geschenkt nehme ich die natürlich! Axel aus Halle
Mit Schenken wird es schwierig, fürchte ich ... 😉
Gold version is a DREAM WATCH !
Have you seen it in real?
@@WatchAdvisor Yes at the boutique, after visiting the factory. I fell in love with it. I just have to contribute a little more.
@@toproll8514 Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
Gorgeous, and I’m thinking about adding it to the collection, but the clasp is a huge letdown at that price.
Which one are you interested in? Concerning the clasp… Yes, there is room for improvements… 😉
This watch looks so perfect with a strap. For some reason, to me, it does not look right with a bracelet.
The bracelet simply is too much IMHO...
Zenith is better than Rolex
Thanks for sharing! Why do you think so?
Just because it’s true. A chronograph without 1/10 is useless 🤷🏻♂️.
- Mouvement are better => 5hz and 50hz vs 4hz
- True and very strong history in chronograph
- Same provider (in the past) for lot of parts (bracelet)
- better price for the quality
-better sales services
- …
I have 2 zenith (chronomaster and a defy) and the defy skyline is for me the best watch and choice under 20kE… particulary’the ceramic version in skeleton
Priced way too high
I disagree!
The lugs stick out far too much. They should have angled it downwards a lot more.
It is a re-edition of the chronograph that was presented in 1969 ... Therefore there was no room for changes ...
not a good idea to change the date at 11:10h
You can change the date whenever you want…
I am still not convinced with the matte plastic looking hands (Yes, I know it's faithful to the original, but still)
Have you seen the chronographs in real yet?
The 10th of a second addition is enough to ruined this for me. Losing the 12 hour register is not what I'm looking for.
What exactly are you doing with a chronograph?
I was extremely excited until I heard they were 38mm. What a disappointment...
38 mm is small today, yes … but that was the size people wore in 1969…
That´s what i liked...
38mm. pass.
Tastes are different!
@@WatchAdvisor I have a 7.25" wrist. 38mm is a no-no for me.
Girl size
Really?
For normal people 36mm or less is a women's size nowadays, but a modern James Bond would wear a black 50mm resin quartz watch (because that's what the military is wearing today, and it would shock people just like a tuxedo with a dive watch did in the early sixties).
