Great review! Very thoughtfully said. You hit the nail on the head: it’s about the safe iconic choice or something different. I’m saving up for a Zenith right now!
Issue with the Moonwatch is that there are so many variations that it can create choice/hunt paralysis. Lots of not safe choices, but then once you take that plunge then you have to 1) find the variation you want and 2) consider if you are going to pay inflated prices if a particular model has increased in $ on the secondary if you missed getting it at retail.
Glad you made this video, I have both these watches (my Speedmaster is the old sapphire sandwich so none Chronometer rated) in my collection also and have to echo your thoughts. I am also glad you spoke about the El Primero’s time keeping as that is EXACTLY my experience having only had it for a couple of weeks. They are worn in rotation so the timekeeping isn’t a huge consideration just a little disappointing in what is otherwise a near perfect package. I’m glad I have both but if I had to keep only one it would be the Zenith.
I was surprised to notice that for all intents and purposes the Speedy is a 40mm watch - mine measures 40mm across the bezel. It definitely wears like a 40mm too. The old versions not so much but that's probably because the lugs and bracelet were trimmed down in the new one and there's no male endlink? Also, isn't the Zenith a 38mm?
I understand regarding the Moonwatch. There is nothing wrong about the watch. But its not that personal and daring,.. Sold mine a couple of years ago. My most worn watches right now are a Cartier Tank and a titanium Panerai Luminor 44mm
Zenith hands-down. I don’t buy watches for resale. To me, it is the much better looking piece. Quite honestly, all the Omega moon hype marketing nonsense is wearing me out. Will I eventually have an Omega moon watch in my collection, sure.
Yes it does otherwise the movement stops or the Chrono jams. Mine is due for 3rd servicing. The speedmasters though just keep Going without servicing. Best regards
Good comparison. What's wild is the comparable age of the watches, yet radically dissimilar aesthetics. One of them looks obciously like a product of the late 60s/70s, while yhr other seems modern even by todays standards, yet their ages are roughly the same. That being said, despite being a big Omega fanboy, myself, the Speedy has never really done ot for me or animated any feelings...there are plenty that have done - I'm rebuying a seamaster 300, love my planet ocean GMT, and my aquaterra is probably my most worn watch. That being said, I'm adding the white dial Zenith defy with the tricolor registers to the collection. I'm with you on the vintage appeal, as well. Something about the proportions and uniqueness of that obciously 70s design that resonates so much.
Definitely Omega speedmaster professional. Goes without maintenance. The zenith you get after you have a speedmaster professional... Bec you will be without a watch for 6-8 mos at a time during it's regular servicing. Otherwise it stops or the chrono pushers will jam.
@@Mega-zi7ysInteresting as I have both but would go with the Zenith. However mine is new, what issues have you had? Is yours the 400 or the original issue of the 3600?
Yes except it's a pain to maintain and it takes a looong time for you to get the watch back too. The speedmasters though, just keep going without servicing.
The zenith will not retain a lot of it's value after purchase. So if you like the watch buy it but don't look at it as a investment. Great looking watch though
Agreed...Buying a toy is never an investment. Otherwise it's not called Luxury expanse. But actually over time most of these watches sell above their original acquisition costs but again that's not important at all. Otherwise don't buy .
I have both of these watches and love them both equally for different reasons.
very nuanced observation. Great review. My thought process about those two watches are very close to that of yours.
Thanks for watching !

That is a tough choice. I love both of them and for the same reasons as you, so I think my only option is to do as you did and get both of them.

Zenith all day everyday

Indeed the moonwatch wears like a 40mm!
Yes the Zenith has a case diameter of 38mm 🙏🏻
The iconic moonwatch anyday.
Would you go the new white dial over the classic black Speedy?
I think they can co-exist happily 😎
Both😂

Does the Zenith require more frequent service interval due to high frequency movement?
The brand did not state that, but i would guess yes.
Yes it does otherwise the movement stops or the Chrono jams. Mine is due for 3rd servicing.

The moonwatch is amazing and would be my choice

I’m also intrigued by another chronograph from the same era…the heuer carrera…

I love the omega but not loving how the bracelet tapers in the new model. I love the new bracelet but that taper is extreme.
I also have the Moonwatch 3861 sapphire and I love it. Tapper and all.
Im really torn between these two watches 😅
One at a time 😆
Speedmaster professional definitely. More robust. Got both and the zenith is really really finicky.
@@Mega-zi7ys i mean the speedmaster IS my favorite watch for a reason but that zenith is just so dang pretty

The speedy is the golden ratio of dial design. Not to mention the bracelet feel is superb. Perfect execution and instant classic.
I love the bracelet too. It's awesome
Wrong again
@@firstnamelastname-ys3mzPreferences, my guy.
The Omega I prefer, only because I’m big and tall and I own it. But that Zenith is very nice and has a great history as well.

I love both but come on. Zenith hands down. No contest.
I resolved this dilemma in the most satisfactory manner. By owning both watches. Stop being such a show off, Barbara!

Or just buy it pre-owned and let some other person take the initial hit.
The Moonwatch is intemporal. The Zenith is just another Panda or Reverse Panda condemn to oblivion by the mighty Daytona.
