The BB54 is perfectly sized, but the gilded hands turn me off. The BB36 is going in the wrong direction for me personally. It’s no longer the perfect tool watch that could be your one watch collection. It’s way too dressy now.
@@dangermuz totally agree. Was hanging out for the redesigned crown, handset and especially the COSC movement. But I would never buy one on a 5-link. Guess I'll wait for a blue BB54!
At this point it’s fair to say that Rolex is setting up Tudor to become Omega’s direct competitor while it tries to break away and join the ranks of VC, AP, and PP.
Totally agree about the BB36. The changes you mentioned but also that beautiful lacquered style dial is replaced by sunburst and taking the snowflake from the second hand. The old watch in 39mm would have been nearly perfect I think.
Great video. Love these features and W&W coverage Controversial view. As I’m not a Tudor-fanatic. Rolex does the more finessed finishing. Sure. And that’s baked into the lower price and great value of Tudor. BUT Rolex does the more interesting dials, not just amazing natural stone but far more colour options. Q/Why can’t Tudor be more fun and adventurous in dial colour too? Very conservative on the whole. Sure they play to classic heritage vibes but still….
Michael killing it by yourself!! Great vids while your partner is off rubbing elbows! lol 😂 Love the redesigned BB, BB54 great alternative, BB 36-41 should have kept oyster option, 150WR (now 100m) and black dial.
Tudor are absolutely killing it, I will personally be picking up the BB burgundy as my wedding watch. I want to see the BB smooth bezel in person, might pick one up for that more dressy look on the jubilee. I feel like it competes with the Date Just.
It would seem that I'm not alone in my enthusiasm for a smaller vintage sub homage. Tudor may have finally made something tempting enough to sell off my entire collection. The trouble is, I already have a very nice vintage sub homage that I'm perfectly happy with.
I love the changes to the Black Bay 36. Tried on the S&G version that already had these tweaks made to it recently, and fell in love. Was hoping Tudor would give the same refinements to their all-steel models this year. It's sad that the Oyster-style bracelet is entirely gone, but their take on the Jubilee is great in person. Other than that, couldn't be happier with this year's releases. Immediately went to my AD and put myself down for the updated 36 (anthracite) and the 54. Now, we wait (and pray) 😂
Yea. It’s the only upgrade I would want on my old BB36. Everything else feels like a step in the wrong direction for me. It’s no longer a tool watch, I miss the smile, don’t really care about the in-house movement, prefer the oyster and snowflake over the lollipop and the jubilee etc.
@Michael I’ve got the Black Bay 54 now. It’s superb. The t-fit is lovely, amazing actually and really should be standard on every watch, ever. The dial and bezel are as you’d expect and the size works amazing on my 6” wrist…it wears like a 37.5mm compared to my datejust, I feel: not quite 38, not quite 37. 20mm lug width too…! I can sort out pics and a bitly link if interested
The Black Bay 36 has been at the top of my list for a long time but I was hoping they'd update it with an in-house movement and t-fit clasp. They went too far, unfortunately, so I guess I'm looking at the old one still.
I’m a happy camper with my old BB36. The only thing I wouldn’t mind upgrading would have been the T-fit clasp, but the old one is also fine, so not a huge loss, even if on the fly adjustment would be a nice QOL upgrade. But I absolutely prefer the oyster bracelet, the snowflake seconds hand (the singular snowflake hour hand now looks rather lonely. I get that they want to echo the indices with the new seconds hand, but It was more balanced when there were two snowflakes against all the circles) the smile text looks way better to me than the flat block of text, and I prefer the non in-house movement as it’s cheaper to service, hell I even like the tube thing on the crown, gives the watch some quirky personality. Also I like the silver markers and hands over the gilded ones. If I get real nit-picky, I would get the rose logo back on the dial, make the triangle at 12 less stretched out by pretty much 50% (to move the logo slightly higher and also give it some more space to breathe), lift the smile text by 1 or 2 mm and add a t-fit clasp and it would be perfection.
I have the ETA BB36, only thing I’d change is having the t fit clasp but it’s not a big deal. The movement in my watch keeps very good time, losing around 1 second a week and not to mention servicing will be easier and cheaper than the in house.
@@anthonythornton8478: Slightly jelly on that time keeping. When I bought mine second hand, it was running 20 seconds fast. Got it serviced and now it’s only 4 seconds fast pr day.
I was so excited about the possibility of the Black Bay steel in 39mm (found 36 too small and 41 a bit bigger than I would prefer), but they messed with it too much. I can't believe they got rid of the lacquered dial! The black and especially the blue lacquered dials really set it apart from most watches out there. The crown tube doesn't even phase me either way, but I think it's better now. While the 5-link Jubilee-esque bracelet is nice, the Oyster bracelet was cooler on it before. They just needed to add T-fit. That's it! It seems like they're going for a more luxurious rather than sporty look. I say sure, make the silver dial more luxurious and give that the 5-link bracelet, but the blue and black just needed small tweaks. I prefer the smiley dial, but the 70hr movement is a nice update. I am a bit surprised at how much the price went up too. I figured maybe it would jump $500, not $1K. The Ranger looks like a real value now, but I don't like the color of the dial printing on it. The Black Bay 41 diver updates are great. I just want to see it in black/gilt and maybe a full blue color. Perfection there, and I love the move to either a 5-link, Oyster style, or rubber strap option vs. the leather they had before. The nylon offering before was cool, but I enjoy wearing divers on rubber straps when not on bracelet. I am SO glad they slimmed it down. The slight bevel on the side of the BB GMT made it wear slightly slimmer than the Black Bay 41 diver, which is crazy. I know some hardcore watch fanatics with small wrists are excited about the BB54. It's cool for those people, but not for me. My AD wondered what market it was for, because he didn't think it would sell well, at least at their store. Great video!
Yeah, I got a GMT when they first came out. And even on the leather strap (only option available at my local) it just felt ridiculous. Like I was wearing an Omega Alaska project Speedmaster! 😂 All they need do is slim it down to BB58 dimensions and it would be perfect!
I returned my GMT yesterday because it was too big, couldn’t even see the bracelet from the top. If they make that in BB58 or BB54 size then would be perfect for many and would probably sell more. Explains why the GMT is so readily available
@@King_Harrold thanks, I’m around 173kg and 5ft 7” but skinny build so don’t want to get something that wears me. I had to return the bb gmt (41mm) because it was way too big
Arguably, THE biggest move this year was removing the crown tubes on the BB models. The proportions of the cases now sit where they always should have!
Great episode and I agree 100% with your thoughts on the new Tudors. Get Christian to buy a 54 for you while he is at W&W. That watch is as close as we will ever see to a new Tudor Submariner.
The Jubilee looks great it's better than the faux rivets that are visually annoying and for the one's who think 37mm is too small for a dive watch. It's the same size as the first Rolex Submariners. You know back when they were actually used for diving and were worn by Navy seals. The Submariner didn't hit 40mm until the 5512
@@ams914 That's all good 👍 and I understand that fully. It just annoys me when I hear people say a dive watch can't be 37 or 38mm. All I will say try the size. You might love it or you might not 😉
I have a mid size omega seamaster 300 (36mm) that I used for diving 15 years ago… as great as it was, I wish I’d bought the larger one for legibility underwater
On a semi relevant note. My BB36 is pretty much the perfect size for me, so is my vintage Seiko dress watch. I got a Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic a week ago, thinking a 38 would be fine, but it feels absolutely gigantic compared to my BB36 and other watches. Guess its the 47mm lug to lug. But yea. Different folks, different strokes.
Oh, I'm absolutely with you there on the BB36 opinion. It was perfect and all it needed was maybe the new in-house movement, that's it. So for me, they ruined it, too. I loved the crown tube, loved the smiley on the dial. Heck, I even liked the almost pastel blue dial much more than the sunburst it has now. And with the oyster bracelet it was much more toolish looking overall. So yes, they made it a bit more classy, a bit more sophisticated, but it lost some of its character. Seems like I'm gonna be looking for the old model in possible discount sales :-)
Thanks for the coverage. Craving some JLC content- seems like most channels are focused on Rolex, Tudor and the new Ingeneur but some of those jlc releases are amazing…also curious to the significance of red bezel other than it’s reissue/reinterpretation as it cannot be seen underwater
JLC, like every year, is kicking out some high homology in an impossible package while everyone is looking at rolex/tudor changing dial colors and "dominating" the industry. I find it quite annoying, tbh and more of a pander to thousands of bros that buy rolex . More enthusiast content please!
@@StefanoMaggio well said, although Tudor definitely did some cool things aside from color changes this year and I am a Tudor fan (I own one) I just think, like you stated, JLC is so far above from innovation and cool factor it would great to see some high quality content on it
@Scott Sherman of course, not putting Tudor down, this year Rolex also had some actually good releases but Piaget, JLC, Lange,Cartier and more released pieces that can move the industry forward asking more and more of maisons but if they don't get traction they stay a niche...
i just bought the smile dial black bay 36 a month ago. got lucky and caught a semi-panic sell at a great deal. the new ones are cool but its more straight edge and basic to me personally. although i like the new blue dial which seems to be an unpopular opinion
Love a lot of things Tudor is prepping, like maybe next year or year after. Like the ability to have Jubilee bracelet, the new certified movement and possibly slimmer case But, their naming. It’s so badly done, it’s up there with Grand Seiko or Citizen. It’s like no one has a decent marketing team.
the eta BB36 was a tool Explorer substitute now it is an amalgamation of an OP (no date) & a datejust (jubilee) & inherits the dial of the old BB36 model but with a more refined finish. The older ETA BB36 was a direct competitor for the newer tool/field Ranger which we'll see variations (such as a 36mm) of --- the new release BB36 is as "dress" as a tool watch can be, similar to how a smooth bezel datejust is as "tool" as a dress watch can be. I'd like to think that the Ranger & Pelagos will expand into a collection like the Black Bay range did -- although the Black Bay range could be organised a bit better. Personally I think I'll get a BB36 (dial TBD based on real world viewing) --- and then in a few years when the white GMT gets a slimmer case update and jubilee bracelet i'd very much like one.
I think the old BB36 was more versatile than this new one. ETA/Sellita BB36 was sporty enough, while still being dressy enough to work as a one watch collection. The new one is leaning harder into dress watch territory and feels less like a tool watch. Just my 2c though. Still a nice looking watch and my personal favorite from Tudor
I love the design of these Tudors but when I got a vintage Submariner and a vintage Day-Date they dont have the same feeling, I have owned 3 different Tudors and every time I have come to the same conclusion, it is a watch that you buy when you cant afford a Rolex. But the Black Bay 54 might be awesome.
Tried the Black Bay 36 on yesterday (and the 39). I was hoping to buy the blue and the slate ones in favour of one Rolex! For me, particularly against my OP 116000 36mm or Datejust 36mm (both with polished bezels) the Tudor is just that bit less classy. It could be that the bezel is a mm or two deeper/wider, or that it uses round indices instead of batons, but it lacks the classyness on wrist. Wish I could share pictures. That said, the jubilee is solid as a rock, the t-fit is lovely of course and the overall dimensions wear really well. If you’re not as pernickety as me, I’d recommend them in a heartbeat!
I think everyone is forgetting that Tudor released a new size in the Black Bay 31,36,39,41mm Bezel-less model line-up. The 39mm is all new. Maybe not breathtaking but it seems to be completely lost in all the narrative this week. Please tell me if I'm wrong. Thanks, and good job hold down the fort!
I like your take on the BB54. At 37mm, who else is their competition? At 40 or above, there is lots. At 39, you have BB58's and Glahutte SeaQ! (have both and love the size). Without going vintage, I'm not sure there is a diver at the same size? This opens the market up for guys with small wrists as well as women who want a diver.
I wish they had kept the black dial on the bb36...that was perfection. Update the movement, thickness and get rid of the crown tube, it would have been perfection. BUt i guess they didnt want to compete with the Exp36??? idk
Are you guys for real? Most of the people said their releases were boring! And for the iwc you said they were not well received, even though most of the watch world loved the ingenieur...
I bought a new Tudor Pelagos about 3 years ago, blue face with the date model. The steel strap mechanism was meant to be spring loaded but, in reality, it never worked. It was an uncomfortable watch to wear. I'm 89 kg with an average sized wrist.I sold it and took the hit. I'm wearing a Citizen dive watch as I tap this out. Titanium body, Sapphire glass and the Eco drive movement. I'll never buy another Tudor or, another Seiko for that matter. My 5 cents.
I vote they thicken up the bezel to the old Tudor Subby level..i absolutely adore the BBay line (especially the new red w the jubilee🔥🔥) but when ive tried them on the bezel feels like a thin piece of paper..i ont like it☹️ Edit: Aaalso! The gmt in white looks great..but go ahead and give us full satisfaction w bigger indices and full black around them n the hands, instead of "highly heated rhodium" or whtver TF it is on this one. Make the markers full black n give it the right contrast, like the Explorer 2🤷♂️
How are the watches selling? Is Tudor accomplishing the goal of selling a Rolex-appearing watch at a lower cost on the combo of Rolex association and appearance, or does the market still spend 3x + on used Rolex watches?
BB 41 looks amazing but still too thick to be "great" watch. It is 3 hand watch with no date and has 13.6mm of thickness....Nothing to be impressed about, dont you think...? I wish they used the same movement which is in BB 54 and provide that burgundy beauty on jubilee with 12mm of thickness. Then it would be home run watch :))) BTW thanks for your content :)
My own opinion is people in recent times have been disappointed with Rolex - so when Tudor opened itself up , it became a different proposition to the previously stated poor man’s Rolex . I think the designs are ok but honestly nothing that makes me want to purchase one . I think they are decent value , decent quality, a good brand but for me there isn’t one piece that makes me lust after one .
Dude, give some respect to the Royal 😂. I personally like the new version of the BB36. The jubilee bracelet looks fantastic on it. Can't wait to try it on
Id say Tudor is absolutely dominating the Blackbay market. Lets face it these are releases are fan service for existing blackbay fans - if you've already seen a blackbay (any blackbay) and said "not for me" then nothing here is going to mean anything to you.
I tried both today the BB54 and new BB36 in blue and black. I was a bit disappointed by the BB54. The spec are great, very thin but the proportion diameter Vs lug to lug is a bit off. It is like a skinny BB58. On the other hand the new BB36 in blue is just fantastic. The case is like the explorer 1 with curve sides. A lovely piece. However from a price point the BB36 is now too expensive for what it is. The BB54 has a much better value for money.
This is interesting. So you are saying that the 54 lug to lug is still a bit too long (as it relates to the other dimensions) is that correct? I kinda feel that way now with the current BB58.
This was the year Tudor did the Rolex thing of small, refined changes to existing looks and designs..... and Rolex went off the reservation. Weird world.
I really like the black bay 58 but im starting to get sick of tudor making 5000 variants of the same black dial. I wish they would branch out a bit more.
You’ll “get the old one” the original Tudor Sub the BB54 is based on? Then be ready to bleed 40-50K 😅 One of the most elegant subs ever though… both the Rolex and Tudor versions
That promotion strip across the bottom of your video is terrible. It's like an ad in your face without being able to switch it off or like CNN running some crappy story across the screen. Get rid of it guys, it sucks.
Tudor did okay - but they left so many obvious fixes/enhancements to their line undone (no love for the 42mm Pelagos, heritage chrono, etc.). The new GMT feels like it's only 80% designed (incomplete)
Hey Michael, I much prefer your quiet, dry-humoured content. Maybe you could do a few more solo pieces going forward. Christian tries to hog the limelight and dominate the conversation… time to assert yourself my friend. Keep up the good work. 👍🇬🇧
Tudor is just hot hot hot.. with whole line going metas in future it's gonna creep up in price a lot meaning rolex will do the same as it makes no sense to have them close in price.
Tudor is doing a PHENOMENAL job of listening to the people and giving them what they want.
I wish they’d listen to me and get rid of the ugly “snowflake” hand.

Agree on all points. Prefer pretty much everything with the old BB36 other than the t-fit clasp. Also love the new blue dial
Love a lot of things Tudor is prepping, like maybe next year or year after. Like the ability to have Jubilee bracelet, the new certified movement and possibly slimmer case
But, their naming. It’s so badly done, it’s up there with Grand Seiko or Citizen.
It’s like no one has a decent marketing team.
Really liking these Michael only videos. Lots more sarcasm 😂
And a lot less juvenile behaviour and swearing. It's refreshing.
@@finesse49 I don’t mind Christian in the videos, he’s fun to watch but he kinda drowns out Michael.
the eta BB36 was a tool Explorer substitute
now it is an amalgamation of an OP (no date) & a datejust (jubilee)
& inherits the dial of the old BB36 model but with a more refined finish.
The older ETA BB36 was a direct competitor for the newer tool/field Ranger which we'll see variations (such as a 36mm) of ---
the new release BB36 is as "dress" as a tool watch can be, similar to how a
smooth bezel datejust is as "tool" as a dress watch can be.
New bb36 is hot garbage
Drop the billboard ticker tape please
the original eta black bays were 12.7mm thick 👌
I love the design of these Tudors but when I got a vintage Submariner and a vintage Day-Date they dont have the same feeling, I have owned 3 different Tudors and every time I have come to the same conclusion, it is a watch that you buy when you cant afford a Rolex. But the Black Bay 54 might be awesome.
I disagree Tudor doing awesome stuff I own both brands . I see them standing on their own.
Save for another Rolex.
Rolex homages.
I like both gmts...yeah a little thick but i can live with it.
For me personally the crown tube was the main reason to dislike BB36, it was an eyesore. Glad that they got rid or it.
That GMT is the best watch I have seen this year.
I have the Black Bay 54 now…
Christian should get you one. You deserve it!
Hoping to see more colors available for the BB54 in the future.
Give me a non gilded one and I’ll probably cave and get one
I like your take on the BB54. At 37mm, who else is their competition? At 40 or above, there is lots. At 39, you have BB58's and Glahutte SeaQ! (have both and love the size). Without going vintage, I'm not sure there is a diver at the same size? This opens the market up for guys with small wrists as well as women who want a diver.
I really would have preferred that the BB36 and now BB39 stay with the Oyster bracelet and more importantly the black dial.
I’m pretty hyped on the new 37mm diver. Just got a sub but I think ima keep it unworn and buy that to beat up for now
I wish they had kept the black dial on the bb36...that was perfection. Update the movement, thickness and get rid of the crown tube, it would have been perfection. BUt i guess they didnt want to compete with the Exp36??? idk
Is it accurate to say that with the red Blackbay and Blackbay 54, Tudor’s diver watch portofolio has reach a certain level of maturity?
I wish they’d have left the bb36 alone also. Better grab the old one while I can.
Are you guys for real? Most of the people said their releases were boring! And for the iwc you said they were not well received, even though most of the watch world loved the ingenieur...
Hoping the new BB36 isn’t thicker that the eta gen
How many times you gonna mention Rolex in a Tudor video?
Why does Michael sound like he's in an abusive relationship with Christian who never takes him out on a night on the town.
Michael holding it down.
Tudor shit the bed this year, 54 is a bit cool
I bought a new Tudor Pelagos about 3 years ago, blue face with the date model. The steel strap mechanism was meant to be spring loaded but, in reality, it never worked. It was an uncomfortable watch to wear. I'm 89 kg with an average sized wrist.I sold it and took the hit.
I'm wearing a Citizen dive watch as I tap this out. Titanium body, Sapphire glass and the Eco drive movement. I'll never buy another Tudor or, another Seiko for that matter.
My 5 cents.
You should have made a cardboard cutout of Christian to sit next to you it would be funny
bb54 is HOT
I vote they thicken up the bezel to the old Tudor Subby level..i absolutely adore the BBay line (especially the new red w the jubilee🔥🔥) but when ive tried them on the bezel feels like a thin piece of paper..i ont like it☹️
Edit:
Aaalso!
@@travisharrisphotography yes exactly. Lug to lug too long for a 37mm.
I’ll never understand this “that watch is too big” mentality. If you like it wear it.
Love my OG blue bb36 :)
If they just made their GMT as slim as their BB58, they’d outsell Rolex by a mile!
BB41 in blue on a 5 link. The opaline gmt, red bb41 on a 5 link. Some beautiful stuff from Tudor.
BB54 all the way...a little plain like most Tudor, but what a great daily watch this will be
Give me the 54 on a jubilee
The faux rivets on the bracelet just ruin it for me
This was the year Tudor did the Rolex thing of small, refined changes to existing looks and designs..... and Rolex went off the reservation.
Asian market demands smaller warches
The new Tudor heritage 3.0 is just looking more like a Rolex Sub 😂
That promotion strip across the bottom of your video is terrible. It's like an ad in your face without being able to switch it off or like CNN running some crappy story across the screen. Get rid of it guys, it sucks.
Burgundy ❤
Missing the snowflake second hands though.. don't really like the lollipop, too simila to Rolex?
Tudor did okay - but they left so many obvious fixes/enhancements to their line undone (no love for the 42mm Pelagos, heritage chrono, etc.). The new GMT feels like it's only 80% designed (incomplete)
They got to leave something for next year right?
Anything under 41mm looks silly on my 7.5+ wrist.
So only Rolex videos and Rolex affiliated Videos it is then boys. So this isn’t a watch channel it’s. Rolex and tudor channel.
Rolex and Tudor fanboys assemble!
Hey Michael, I much prefer your quiet, dry-humoured content. Maybe you could do a few more solo pieces going forward. Christian tries to hog the limelight and dominate the conversation… time to assert yourself my friend. Keep up the good work. 👍🇬🇧
hey, do you guys buy vintage watches?
Don’t like the bigger teeth around the bezel of the Burgundy. Too much tacky Rolex vibes
No love for the Tudor Royal?!
Tudor is just hot hot hot.. with whole line going metas in future it's gonna creep up in price a lot meaning rolex will do the same as it makes no sense to have them close in price.
If Tudor Bezels were made of ceramic i would buy one. but aluminium? naa
